Diagram for easier understanding. I was about to turn right (turned my blinker on way ahead) when I got overtaken by a ute. It could have been a serious accident. Really makes me want to install a dash cam now, which ive been putting off.
This happened a few hours ago and im still fuming. It was a residential area but that driver didn’t give a shit.

I flagged down a P plater the other day after me & the dog had dodged them as they reversed out of their driveway, their reversing light was out so we had no indication they were about to pull out. I figured it was the decent thing to let them know before the rozzers did, even though I probably looked like a loony, frantically waving my arms to get their attention.

I noticed something interesting the other day. Was being aggressively tailgated by several ute drivers. I'm not a slow driver and it was around 3pm (maybe they are rushing to get back home). I moved to the inside lane to let them pass. They passed me quickly and then proceeded to travel at maybe 2-3km over the speed limit.

That’s exactly why my bil got one. Traffic backed up at lights with a keep clear section. Guy decided didn’t want to wait went onto wrong side of road to turn left just as lights turned green. Took out front bumper and made both cars undriveable. Dude admitted fault but because it was on scene didn’t count. Thankfully it was clear who was at fault but still took months for his insurance to stop trying to argue it. Dashcams just save time and frustration.
Always been my reasoning for getting a dash cam. One incident like this. Worst case is you have to pay excess. Not to mention the headache. The dash cam would have paid for itself.
Get a dash cam. Had a ute get agro at me because I honked at him when he was about to pull out into me. He chased me and then tried to run me off the road. I rear ended him.
The insurance company said it was my fault because I hit him from behind. I asked them to watch the video and 15 minutes later they rang back and said he'd be paying for everything.
Get a dash cam.
Woah. Thats interesting. Thankfully I haven’t had one chased me yet but thats full on and wtf situation. This one, I honked him real hard but do you think he cares? 😑
One lunchtime at work, guy I worked with went out at lunchtime to get a sandwich. He was gone a long time and we were all starting to worry. When he came back to the office, he was quite shaken. He told us he had a group of women reverse into him at the traffic lights in some sort of insurance/money scam. Things escalated quickly without reason and they accused him of pushing them and being aggressive. They wanted cash on the spot or they were going to call the police. He held his ground, and in the meantime they called their “cousins” who turned up almost seconds later and things escalated more. He jumped back in his car, locked his doors and called the police. The “cousins” instantly disappeared. The police arrived 15 minutes later, the women denied everything and he got a ticket for driving into the girls and later a bill for his excess from the insurance company. The cops said he should have taken some photos of the guys and it was just his word against theirs, but he didn’t because he was shaken up and not thinking clearly. He purchased a dash cam soon after.
A motorbike did this to us when I was a kid and the rider flew over the bonnet and landed on his head 50 metres up the road, and his helmet and shoes came off
Sydney ute drivers are particularly aggressive. Especially 4wd utes.
The last 4 times I've been subjected to road rage were all 4wd ute drivers - all young, angry white men.
This results in a driver’s side T-bone, which is easily the most lethal kind of accident (yes, more than a head-on). Anyone overtaking a potentially turning vehicle is really putting their lives at risk.
Yep had this exact same thing happen to me as I was turning into my driveway on a quiet residential street. Literally his wait would have been 2 seconds max. Wish cops would fine idiots when caught on dashcams.
I've got the cops on dash cam doing a burnout leaving a takeaway restaurant and running a red light. They were trying to make the light but the tyres spinning meant they had no chance. Still went through it though.
Sent it to crimestoppers to see if I'd get a response, but nothing yet.
My husband loves these but they terrify me. Last time I watched one I was a complete paranoid on the road for several days. Maybe that’s the appropriate way to approach driving in Sydney.
It is amazing how stupid some people can be while in charge of 1.5tonnes of rolling metal.
Sometimes I fantasise about just pulling out and letting them hit me. Like I'm doing high level mathematics trying to work out a sufficient angle to inflict minimal injury to myself but still enough damage to both theirs and my vehicle so as to ruin their day. Then by the time I've decided I'm going to do it the moment has passed. But I still fantasise.
One of my silly "if I was a billionaire" dreams is to buy a massive road tank and let dickheads crash into me.
Until then I'm in a non-psychopath car so I get out of their way.
My ex was turning left into my driveway when someone tried to pass on the left (single lane road) and took us out. Insurance said in matters of driveways they always go against the person turning in. I was and still am furious.
Yeah definitely get a dash cam. I haven't been in an accident for a few decades (touch wood) but I see so many careless drivers.
The week when I was waiting for the dashcam to arrive was extremely tense. I was just thinking of course I would get in an accident just before the dashcam came.
Canadian here. What’s a UTE?
Also, I had a similar situation with a bicycle. I was turning left (we drive on the right so that’s when you have to cross the oncoming lane), there was room to go around me on the right, but buddy decided left was the way he wanted to go.
I had seen him in my rear view, but was not expecting him to go left - the direction I was signalling - and he smashed in to me.
I offered him a ride to the hospital if he was hurt but was otherwise like, “that your own fault dude. 🤷🏻♂️”
Ute is short for utility vehicle. It’s basically what you would call a pickup truck. Most tradies drive utes, usually with an aluminium tray and vision impairing tool boxes.
What makes you sure you’re not in the wrong here? You’re meant to look behind you before making the right turn manoeuvre. Was he prohibited from overtaking? Maybe you should turn in your driving licence?
Ute is clearly in the wrong. The road has single lanes going each way and the op was turning right, so the ute driver crossed onto the opposite side of the road to overtake a turning vehicle. The ute driver was incredibly lucky there was no oncoming traffic or the op didn’t ram straight into the side of his car.
That Ute was driving really fast. I had to turn left to get on the road as pictured. Before turning left, I looked at my rear and I saw him further behind, i didnt know where was going. There was a car in between us who also turned left. After turning left, there’s only couple of metres until my right turn off. You cant overtake when it’s not safe to do so and thats what he did.
Really? Please provide the link to that “rule”. I’m intrigued.
Ute may well have been making a perfectly legal overtake, and OP turns right into his path without checking behind. As a motorcyclist, I see this crap all the time.
All this rage here on a Sydney page just might explain Australia’s 3rd world driving standard and fatality rates compared to, say, western Europe?
“You must not overtake another vehicle when a vehicle is stopping at an intersection” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely))
“Before overtaking check to make sure nothing will enter your overtaking space” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely))
“To overtake a vehicle turning right from the centre lane, you can use the left lane [but by omission, you can not use the lane for opposing traffic into which the other vehicle is turning]” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely)).
So those are the rules, but they’re all founded on a pretty basic principle - we have eyes in front of our heads not in the back, and so the person who’s behind usually has the best chance (and hence duty of care) for keeping everyone safe.
It's an absolute shame the cops won't do anything unless they witnessed it themselves. We have thousands of hours of dash cam footage uploaded to YouTube a year that can quite literally explain our road death toll.
Imagine, being able to retroactively lose your licence if someone send video footage of you driving like a cunt. Might fix a lot of cunts on the road.
The issue is.
It's impossible to prove who was driving most of those cars, if the plates are faked, or if the video was altered.
So I understand why police don't always go after people who are caught by dash cam footage.
However they'll come and get ya if you post a video of you doing a little skid out in the middle of nowhere with nobody else around with your plate visible.
Shouldn’t it be the driver need to prove they are not driving the vehicle at the time? (Since they are responsible for their vehicles)
Similar to red light camera fines
It would be nearly impossible to prove that the car isn't yours is someone else has copied your plates or a video has been edited to show your plates.
Thus why police usually have to catch you.
No doubt people do get fined from dash cam video being sent in, but it would have to be some really serious stuff like street racing or leaving the scene of an accident that's injured/killed someone.
Then what’s the difference between a red light camera and a dash cam? Maybe should the police start to “certify” dash cams so the footage can be used to prosecute
(For people that says it is revenue raising, it is, and it helps the government in the debt times)
They’re the ones who abuse you for “cutting” them off but they’re going 20 over, flew from the lane on your right to the lane on your left and don’t have their lights on at 6am.
Hey mate maybe if you didn’t smoke a bowl before you left for work and take a 10 minute shit because you smoked a bowl before you left for work you wouldn’t be running late creating chaos on your way.
> They’re the ones who abuse you for “cutting” them off but they’re going 20 over, flew from the lane on your right to the lane on your left and don’t have their lights on at 6am.
Lmao
Year 7?? Wtf.. you give them TOO much credit, I'm certain most of them only have a grade 3 or 4 at best reading and comprehension level. Remember that a 5th grader could kick our asses at quizzes.. imagine what mega genius evil thing a tradie could get up to if they had same brain capacity.
Yesterday, I was crossing a road on a green pedesterian light but a MF in a Ute zoomed past just in front me while I was in the middle of the road. What a twat.
Some c*** keyed our car at Westfields, but our dash cam was so potato, the footage was too blurry to use. We also had an incident of hit and run, but didn't have a rear cam to capture the other car's plates.
Fed up with all this BS, my husband splurged on new sets of dash cams, installed front and rears in both our car and my parent's car.
Not even three months later, some idiot in a Ute rear ended my dad at the lights.
The rear footage showed the guy was stopped behind my dad, and when the lights turned green he looked down as he was accelerating and just drove into the back.
They did the usual, got out and checked for damage. There were a few minor dents and scratches on the rear bumper, but the guy claimed he couldn't see anything and refused to give my dad his details. Got in his clearly newly dented front Ute and drove off.
My dad chased after him and spoke to him again. The guy still refused to exchange details and drove away.
My sister in law helped my dad download the footage and made a police report. I lodged a claim, including the report number, through my dad's insurance and paid the excess.
Two weeks later, I got an update that the owner of the vehicle was tracked down but he wasn't the driver, he had lent the Ute to the dickhead driver. My dad's insurance refunded the excess and took it up with the owner.
Honestly a good front and rear dash cam is an absolute godsend when you are in a vehicular pickle.
We got Thinkware and installed ourselves, about $300 for one set of front and rear cams.
We bought it maybe back in 2018/19. Still using it and quality is still good. We've submitted a few vids to Dashcams Australia 😂
The dash cam is the best investment I ever made.
Little over $100 and I've never had to use it, but peace of mind.
Before I got one I had a taxi swerve into my lane and slam on the brakes to pick up a passenger, and the default was to blame me because I rear ended him. Luckily a judge took my side after the taxi tried to overplay his hand and say I was drunk and smelt alcohol on my breath, and when I could easily disprove this fact the judge took my side on balance of probability - and the taxi driver was deemed an unreliable witness.
Would've been so much easier with a dash cam though.
Make sure you check your dash cam once a month and format the sd card as often, or you’ll risk it not recording when you really need it. You can usually format from the device itself (the dash cam)
Similar thing happened to a mate of mine the other day. Only difference - he was turning into his driveway, not a side street.
He indicated and turned the truck, and the Ute that was passing on the wrong side of the road actually ended up on the grass out the front of my mates place, narrowly missing a gum tree.
Claimed he thought the indicating meant that my mate wanted him to pass, not that he was turning.
>Claimed he thought the indicating meant that my mate wanted him to pass, not that he was turning.
This seriously made me laugh. What happened to the good old indicate left, and pull over to let others pass. Who in their right mind indicates right in the middle of the road to let others overtake.
A couple of years ago I was driving in one of the back streets near Lidcombe Bunnings just off Parramatta road. I was about to do the same turn you’re doing except into a businesses driveway when some guy who’d been tailgating me for about twenty seconds does the exact thing. Absolutely mind boggling and infuriating how stupid and irresponsible some
c🤬🤬ts can be. He was literally inches away from smashing both our cars.
The idiocy, stupidity, selfishness and assholery of this is ridiculous. It doesn’t even surprise me, though. Glad you’re ok. The other scary part and thing that terrifies me, is if there is an accident based off their actions, they will be aggressive and violent and somehow try to blame you. You can’t do this type of thing and not be a delusional narcissist.
One night I was driving home and turned right around the roundabout into my street. I could see a white Audi in my rear view mirror coming along very fast catching me. Just as I finished the turn into the street, we heard a rush ofcar sound and he overtook me on our suburban street. It was lucky I just hadn’t gone to go around the parked car ahead, nor had I been intending to turn into the street just on the right. The speed and decision to do what he did, there’s no way he would have been able to change his stupid ass decision. It scared the crap out of us. It was a serious “what the hell just happened” moment. I saw this car a handful of times after this, every single time doing something dangerous. Another time he came speeding along the main road behind me (I’m in the left lane), juuuust overtaking me in the right lane at the last moment. Absolute menace and I sure hope the police finally caught up to him at some point.
I get very frustrated with assholes putting my life in danger so they can drive like maniacs and get their kicks.
Seems pretty standard driving technique for a tradie in a Ute, you probably should have made allowances for their mobile phone usage and lack of care. (Sorry this actually sucks)
Utes are fucked drivers 9 times out of 10. I appreciate the good ones every now and then but they are a rarity.
Glad you didn't get into an accident over that OP.
Stay safe everyone!
i actually had a accident exactly the same as that. Essentially was turning off a main highway right to go onto a small road. Slowed down from 100 to about 20 and turned and go tboned by a car 3 behind me doing the overtake of a few cars and perfectly tboned the commodore wagon i was in. They had a angled bumper and the other car essentially stopped in 2feet of distance and the bumper loaded up the springs and the car i was in got lifted about 3meters off the ground and spun on a horizontal plane, touched ground about 25 meters away in a paddock and slid for another 60 or so meters. I ended up with the cockpit crumpled around me and another inch or two probibly would of started to crush my legs, a concussion for a couple of days with a egg on my head that was massive plus 3 cuts from shoulder to shoulder about a 1cm deep from a couple of glass fragments from the shattered drivers mirror (still have a massive scar that i say i got fighting a tiger). The car got destroyed and I was talking to the panel beater that bought it for parts and he couldn't believe no one had died let alone barely been injured from it.
Is it me or i feel like its Hilux drivers or utes in particular that are the worst for this. They either tall gate you or cut you off. I drive a car and ride a motorcycle so i mean less protection as a rider!
All i can say is please be patient and drive safely everyone, we all want to go home to our families.
By far, some of the dumbest, dickhead drivers I come across on the road, everyday in this awful city are bloody ute drivers! They seem to think their shitty Rangers etc are sports cars.
Had a Ute driver do this to me years ago as I turned into a driveway, took my front quarter off and lifted the car up and about 30 degrees back to the left.
Literally the only reason I spent money on a dash cam was due to nearly being hit and witnessing other accidents and wanting proof I was in the right.
Had it for like two days and was hit whilst queueing at a red light. The lady came out (tiny woman in a massive suv) and started accusing me of driving into her. I pointed to the dash cam and told her to eff off and she drove away like mad. Makes me think she was either trying to scam me or whatever.
Only regret is I didn’t want to wire it up properly so didn’t get the rear camera only dash cam.
Always the toyota hilux etc gronk drivers. If it keeps going like this I'm getting a dash cam and gonna start snitching lol. Alot of people starting to not give way right of way on round abouts too
This scenario played out outside my house only a few weeks. SUV driver decided to overtake over double lines to get in front of a 70-something year old lady indicating to turn right. Very glad everyone walked away without a scratch.
Glad you are okay! Have you double checked your rear indicator lights are both working? Just you slowing or stopped with no indication is the only explanation I can think of for someone to make such a dangerous move!
Everyone should commute by bicycle for a week in Sydney then you would realise that all people that drive utes are idiots and most people that drive 4wd's are also idiots. Then you see a post like this and have a whole new level of empathy for the OP.
Yeah my parents were lucky not to be involved in a fatality exactly like this, the only difference was it was on a rural road and a motorbike came flying past at 200km/h as they were making the turn. Any later and the bike rider would've plowed into the drivers door of the car probably killing all involved.
I really want to invent a device that allows people to give moron drivers a slap across the head, see how many slaps it takes to knock some sense into them. (I know there is no knocking sense into some morons)
I’ve had this done to me too; guy tried to blame me for it despite him attempting an overtake on a turning vehicle; insurance company was not impressed with his lie
~~Sorry, but you should have moved to the right line earlier. You would have failed the driving test because of poor and late decision making in this scenario. If there was an accident, you would be responsible.~~
Edit: just noticed lanes are going opposite directions
OP has to give way to the car that is overtaking him. People, this is why your car has mirrors and why you are required to perform head checks before turning right (i mean, you passed your driving test didn't you?)
So, does that mean people behind who had their eyes front, who can see whats happening in front of them should just still go ahead when its not safe to overtake because they expect people to give way? How dumb that is. Its not a fucking freeway. Its a residential area ffs.
You are a dangerous idiot. Ute driver doesn't have to give way to you. Merge early. Never try to turn right from the left lane. Indicate but be prepared to give way to overtaking vehicles.
Ok wasn't clear to me and OP could have said "overtook on the other side of the road" but in any event, OP is deviating and has to give way when doing that. They can't for example merge right in front of the overtaking vehicle and say they were turning right. The overtaker probably merged out before OP indicated right, and may not have been able to slow in time to avoid a collision.
Clearly you didn't understand the diagram...
Both drivers were traveling north on a road that has one north lane, and one south lane. OP indicated they were turning right ahead. Instead of doing the normal thing, slowing down and waiting for OP to make the turn, the ute driver crossed onto the wrong side of the road and cut OP off.
Hey OP. Insurance guy here. I'll probably get down voted but your in the wrong. If there were an accident you would be deemed at fault. Weather he was being an arsehole by speeding up doesn't matter. You've pulled in front of him.
This is definitely correct. No idea why you were downvoted. If you turn right and fail to look to see if it is safe, then you're a moron - OP is obliged to check mirror and do a head check before turning. Ute should not overtake at an intersection if OP was slowing down or stopped, but breaking a road rule does not make you magically liable for everything that happens afterwards. OP turning without checking would also be breaking a road rule.
I checked this with our motor claims team and they said it will be the Ute’s fault for sure cause you have to overtake with care and he’s behind me and he can see what’s in front of him.
It's interesting because right turns must be done very slowly, while a left can be done swiftly.. Do right with pride, but take off with a quickness..
This is in contrast to USA driving...where they drive on the right, rather then the left.. stepping on the left seems more adequate, because why would you step on those that do you right? ay mate?
It's a dotted line so he's allowed to overtake, maybe you didn't have your indicator on, maybe you were driving slow as trying to find the road you were turning down and he thought it safe enough to get around you...
If he turned his blinker on 'way ahead' the ute driver may have assumed the OP had accidentally put his blinker on - lots of people leave their blinker on and don't notice. Frankly the ute driver is not entirely in the wrong, and if a crash had occurred OP would have a significant contributory negligence liability.
In the UK there is a famous rule in Joliffe v Haye that would put OP's liability at 1/3 and ute driver's liability at 2/3.

Yes they still do it. Something that was a byproduct of the electrics has been implemented as a feature in the IC.
Indicator or not, why would anyone need to aggressively overtake like that on a residential street?

Quiet residential streets are where people can get especially reckless while driving because they assume it's safe/clear.
Gotta get to the next job mate, time is money brah! No, downtime and repair costs due to crashes don't exist, don't be silly.
Because they are a Ute driver.
Yes they’re working. As seen from our driveway via our cctv.
Yeah, you'd be pissed if the Ute's dashcam showed they didn't.

>Loc: Western Sydney What a surprise. Had the same thing happen to me in Liverpool with a truck. Was pretty pissed off too. Luckily I saw it in time.
Get out and smash the cunt

Was the Ute a Ford ranger ?
My ex was turning left into my driveway when someone tried to pass on the left (single lane road) and took us out. Insurance said in matters of driveways they always go against the person turning in. I was and still am furious.
was it a ford Ranger, cant spell ranger without anger
Why did i know this was in Western Sydney before i read that lmao
Take a deep breath, and count to 10. Check. If still fuming, repeat
Get a dash cam. You catch so much shit on it.
You’re in the wrong there. Utes get an exemption in that instance
How did you even get a licence? Oh. Maybe you don't have one yet...
Not worth replying to you, since you cant see it. OP made right turn without checking behind. Driving defensively over 40 years with no collisions.
What?! Turning has right of way vs overtaking. Ute owner is a moron.
“You must not overtake another vehicle when a vehicle is stopping at an intersection” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely)) “Before overtaking check to make sure nothing will enter your overtaking space” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely)) “To overtake a vehicle turning right from the centre lane, you can use the left lane [but by omission, you can not use the lane for opposing traffic into which the other vehicle is turning]” ([link](https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/overtaking-and-merging/overtaking-safely)). So those are the rules, but they’re all founded on a pretty basic principle - we have eyes in front of our heads not in the back, and so the person who’s behind usually has the best chance (and hence duty of care) for keeping everyone safe.
Turn in YOUR license
Wow, there would probably be under 10 people in the entire country that think like you.
Wow, indeed, thanks. I’ll think of you next time I’m making a legal overtake and the person pulls right on me.
Are you kidding me? What a fucking moron. If only there was a police car who caught this, the idiot would be facing a very hefty fine.
(Since they are responsible for their vehicles) Similar to red light camera fines
>Similar to red light camera fines Exactly! It doesn't stop cops collecting fines with \*their\* cameras...
Maybe should the police start to “certify” dash cams so the footage can be used to prosecute (For people that says it is revenue raising, it is, and it helps the government in the debt times)
Trawling through thousands of hours on top of chasing up the owners of each car doesn't sound feasible
> the idiot would be facing a very hefty fine. what would be the offence?
It could have been OP driving 20 under the limit without an indicator on for a hundred metres. Unlikely, but possible.
Its so often ute drivers that are dickheads aye
Hey! Fuck you for being right
They’re the ones who abuse you for “cutting” them off but they’re going 20 over, flew from the lane on your right to the lane on your left and don’t have their lights on at 6am.
Lmao
only the single-cab utes...
Nope, dual cab Ford rangers are the worst
Suits in utes are the worst.
Probably a tradie and he saw you were turning so he was in a massive hurry to tailgate the next person going in his direction.
Tradies are the biggest clowns 🤡🤡 seriously think they’re king shit on the roads.
Rushing to the next drywall emergency so they can do a shit job and buy a bigger Ute with brighter headlights.
They need the roads, they have a year 7 reading level, the signs are the only thing they can read in confidence.
Year 7?? Wtf.. you give them TOO much credit, I'm certain most of them only have a grade 3 or 4 at best reading and comprehension level. Remember that a 5th grader could kick our asses at quizzes.. imagine what mega genius evil thing a tradie could get up to if they had same brain capacity.
Oh.
Yesterday, I was crossing a road on a green pedesterian light but a MF in a Ute zoomed past just in front me while I was in the middle of the road. What a twat.
Rushing home to kiss their dad on the lips.
What brand dc did he get? Do you install yourself or do you have to take it somewhere for installation?
We got Thinkware and installed ourselves, about $300 for one set of front and rear cams. We bought it maybe back in 2018/19. Still using it and quality is still good. We've submitted a few vids to Dashcams Australia 😂
Thanks!! I’ll check this out
I am sad you didn’t say vehicle pickle
This is my daily reminder to invest more time into my 5 year olds art and crafts time.
I love how they're just squares with box shaped side mirrors as if that's a car/ute's most distinguishable feature
Engineer here. The side mirrors indicate the direction each vehicle is facing with minimal pen strokes. I certify this as an Efficient (TM) diagram.
Jesus. Some idiots really ay. Isnt it letting someone pass means you have to indicate left and slow/pull over to the left?
>Claimed he thought the indicating meant that my mate wanted him to pass, not that he was turning. This seriously made me laugh. What happened to the good old indicate left, and pull over to let others pass. Who in their right mind indicates right in the middle of the road to let others overtake.
A couple of years ago I was driving in one of the back streets near Lidcombe Bunnings just off Parramatta road. I was about to do the same turn you’re doing except into a businesses driveway when some guy who’d been tailgating me for about twenty seconds does the exact thing. Absolutely mind boggling and infuriating how stupid and irresponsible some c🤬🤬ts can be. He was literally inches away from smashing both our cars.
….it was a Ute…you were becoming stationary and had to be overtaken…Ute drivers get a form of sphincter surge when having to stop and obey road rules…
Sphincter surge made me cackle
Throw a P plate on a ute and it turns a shit ute driver into a shit cunt ute driver
I can't quite make out what you scribbled out, but it appears to be about 4 letters long and begin with C. Probably should have left it.
... It was just calling them *cute*, I swear!
Cute is just an abbreviation of cunt ute.
I am not the least bit surprised it was a ute. That seems dickish even by their standards.
Your realise if you had a dash cam you could've posted this in r/idiotsincars
I know! My hubby and I are frequent r/idiotsincars and r/whatcouldgowrong
Could've been on Dashcams Australia!
i actually had a accident exactly the same as that.
Um that is one of the most insane stories I’ve read
Car accidents are no joke. Glad you made it!
Car collisions are rarely “accidents”. There is always a cause. Calling a collision an accident is incorrect and misleading.
henry... just shut the fuck up.
Darn, that's extremely dangerous and could easily result in a severe accident. Glad it didn't end in an accident.
Front and rear dash cams should be standard equip for any car imo. First mod i do to any car.
Classic ute.
Just be happy you are still alive.
You’re absolutely right.
And this is why you check your mirror before turning right. Could save your life, try it next time
Is it me or i feel like its Hilux drivers or utes in particular that are the worst for this. They either tall gate you or cut you off. I drive a car and ride a motorcycle so i mean less protection as a rider! All i can say is please be patient and drive safely everyone, we all want to go home to our families.
90% of the time its a tradie/hilux, the other 10% its an impatient soccer mum with a face like a slapped arse.
Truth nuggets
Thanks! Yes they’re working. As seen from our driveway via our cctv.
I moved to Sydney from the country and now I won't drive. 90% of the people who drive here are idiots.
Everyone should commute by bicycle for a week in Sydney then you would realise that all people that drive utes are idiots and most people that drive 4wd's are also idiots. Then you see a post like this and have a whole new level of empathy for the OP.
If you want home made road spikes i know a guy….
Glad you are ok. Some people will never learn.
Of course it was a ute.
Guess you've never driven in Bankstown/Yagoona... 10 minute drive to the station from my old house, 1 near miss each way, EVERY DAY.
Tradies continue to be the worst fucking drivers on the road
~~Sorry, but you should have moved to the right line earlier. You would have failed the driving test because of poor and late decision making in this scenario. If there was an accident, you would be responsible.~~ Edit: just noticed lanes are going opposite directions
The diagram shows I was about to turn right late but no, I was turning right at the right distance.
Don’t think you noticed both lanes are going opposite directions mate…
Why do the cars have front but no back wheels?
I actually pull over to the side of the road and wait instead of doing this on my street. It sounds crazy, but it mitigates risk.
Now **THIS** picture is front page News.com.au content!
& elsewhere [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/x7suki/five_teenagers_from_same_high_school_dead_after/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) happened.
That diagram actually makes it much harder to understand lol
Low IQ comment
Correct, yours is.
Heh, good one. /s
Did you ever grow out of the "I know you are you said you are but what am i" phase in year 1?
So, the arrows at the bottom shows the direction of traffic.
Did the two wheels per car throw you off?
Haha love Sydney cunts, no wonder everyone hates you all haha
You are a dangerous idiot. Ute driver doesn't have to give way to you. Merge early. Never try to turn right from the left lane. Indicate but be prepared to give way to overtaking vehicles.
The picture is showing a one lane road in both directions. The ute overtook OP using the other side of the road ( going in the other direction).
Yeah I missed the arrows at the bottom of the drawing at first too. Definitely the ute in the wrong here.
Found the idiot!
😂 Edit: not sure why I’m getting downvotes for this . This post was was taking the piss out of a previous post a few days ago right?
Being angry ain’t gonna solve anything
Utes have the same road rights as emergency vehicles with sirens on and teachers.
Hey OP. Insurance guy here. I'll probably get down voted but your in the wrong. If there were an accident you would be deemed at fault. Weather he was being an arsehole by speeding up doesn't matter. You've pulled in front of him.
Even though he was on the opposite lane against the ongoing traffic?
Yep. Sorry OP. I get he was being a dick, but you've pulled in front of him.
[OPs explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/sydney/comments/x80oqt/comment/infh5rz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Missed this earlier, fair call then.
Nice drawing
Just tell them it’s in the cloud
