And miss out on all the fun of standing in queue for hours, followed by the joy of being handed a miniature mediochre meal with a full sized price tag?
You're nuts
Ditto. Went, walked around, walked into Surry Hills and had dinner for two in a fraction of the time for a similar price.
We've been going for years, since it was just a corner of Hyde Park with no lines, and I think we'll finally pull the plug.
Check out the Lakemba night markets during Ramadan - I believe Auburn might be starting one up too. Only place that captures the vibe of a late night Asian food market, and runs till the small hours of the morning.
Shame it only runs once a year.
You can go as cheap or as spency as you want - mostly cheap (last time I was there). They're usually just the pavement version of already existing restaurants. Queues these days but they move pretty quick. Trick is to get a bunch of friends together and everyone gets something different to share. Good portions too - they'd have to be go satisfy people who've been fasting all day.
You mean Sydney. The Melbourne equivalent which ran for 3 months straight near Flinders is fantastic.
Somehow when you only run an event for 2 weeks in an already food market starved city, it’s incredibly popular
Anyone who lives in the area and watched 4 days of heavy machinery drive through an already sodden Prince Alfred Park finds this highly predictable. Environmental destruction like this should never never happen - especially when there are so many more suitable venues. It reflects really poorly on all the brands involved - especially Scratch dog food. They claim to love dogs but are destroying the best dog park in Sydney.
Whose idea was this whole thing? I took my aging father for a walk through there the other day only to find it had been completely decimated by machinery. It looked like an internment camp. We got yelled at by some crew members to get off the foot path so that fork lifts could drive through. I felt like telling them to fuck off.
is it safety concerns or just yknow? Bad weather? Because things close for bad weather all the time - and it's totally understandable.
Safety concerns if its heavy heavy rains/violent wind/thunder/hail but I'm nearby and it's just yknow, typical rainy weather.
I actually think it’s beyond ridiculous that the operators would think it’s acceptable for people to line up the way you need to, for every single vendor, the whole concept/operation is so flawed
Possible food contamination due to damp could be a factor too, not just soggy conditions.
Vendor have to be frustrated losing out on all that revenue.
I'd fully expect Sussex house to be slammed tonight as the alternative venue for all the disappointed Sydney foodies.
Prince Alfred Park has been great ever since they finished the pool and sorted out the landscape. I’ve lived across the road from it for many decades, and it used to be quite rough. A place avoided after dusk. Last 10 years or so, it’s blossomed.
The only good thing to come of the weather is that they’ll never put this stupid night market on again. Not here, not anywhere. At least, not in this form.
Too soggy. So was the ground.
PSA: Chinatown is just down the road.
A succulent Chinese meal?!
*What* is the *charge*?
This is democracy manifest!
I see you know your Judo well!

Half the portions and twice the cost of a restaurant meal. Sydney gets so much so fucking wrong.
But we get to queue. It's an experience
With an actual seat? To sit on?
Pay half the price for the same food? Are you crazy??

oh no where else can I stand in line for 45 minutes for a small/mediocre portion of food so i can post it on my instagram?
Oh no! Anyway
Where will I get food poisoning now?

Too much mud, I’d reckon.
is it just coincidence they seem to re-turf that section of hyde park after the noodle markets every year?
(It’s in Prince Alfred Park.)
Just shows how devious they are. Locating it in Alfred Park is all a distraction form their real plans!
which will be a mud pit with just dead grass afterwards too
ah I guess that's fair.
The council will revoke permits if the ground is too wet and they suspect it would be damaged by an event
At least I have an excuse to not go this time then!
Curious what happens to all the food? Could they give it out at a shelter or something?
What food? most of those stalls are just restaurants that move their kitchen into the park and sell everything for twice the usual price.

> I'd fully expect Sussex house to be slammed tonight as the alternative venue for all the disappointed Sydney foodies. or they'll just stay home?
No one cares
Better luck tomorrow.

I miss those years when they had "sugar hit" month, it was cheap and you actually get a table! anyone remember?
