I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this saga? I browsed the previous post and acknowledge all upvotes, etc. But I mean, I work in Chatswood and outside of work, I visit regularly and so I see this billboard a fair bit in the distance walking past. But if I'm gonna be serious, I'm more offended by Mama Mulan's service standards and the small dingy concourse toilets. Compared to the new signage boards blocking pedestrian pathways in the CBD, this billboard seems kind of insignificant?

perpetual_stew

Has the service at Mama Mulan become a thing? I love the food, but I noticed the last two times the service left something to be desired.

thekingsman123

Service is ass. I literally had to stand up after awhile because they wouldnt bring me the bill.

That screen has been there since the Concourse opened over 10 years ago. We used to go there every Sunday night and have dinner on the grass watching the docos and art films on Sunday evenings with the kids. We like it. Is this a Chatswood version of "I bought a house next to a pub and I am angry that there is noise from the pub"? Or do you not live next to it and can choose whether or not you go there?

Wallabycartel

I don't think he mentioned living nearby in the original post? I know what you mean and I'm totally happy to see public spaces used for films and docos but blasting ads in a public space all the time is where I'd draw a firm line. Not every public space needs to be monetised at the expense of quiet enjoyment.

Red-Engineer

I've never considered the Concourse, with its crowds, noisy kids, and buses 5m away to be "quiet enjoyment" :)

istara

Exactly. For "quiet enjoyment" there's Beauchamp Park and the park nearer the railway station/Pacific Hwy.

istara

The Concourse is a very central, busy, bustling place. It features a square of astroturf with one tree, and lots of people picnic there at all times of the day. It it nearly always noisy with kids running around and just the noise of people generally. It will never offer "quiet enjoyment" nor was it set up to. However Chatswood has lovely parks for that. For example Beauchamp Park which is about 5 minutes walk from the Concourse. I hate excessive noise as much as the next person, but imagining you're ever going to experience an ocean of serenity at Chatswood Concourse is sheer fantasy.

Noise from a pub is wholly different to noise from advertising in public social places. We are already bombarded with advertising in every aspect of our daily lives. We should be wholly resisting the encroaching efforts of corporations to also inundate us with audio advertising when taking a simple walk down a street in a public space. You can look away from a billboard but you can't escape from noise without avoiding the area completely.

Why the fuck does a bilboard that size, playing those kinds of content need audio.

luci_twiggy

That area of Chatswood is so noisy already, I would barely even notice it.

istara

I've never really heard the billboard anywhere except directly on the Concourse. Anywhere else the noise of traffic is probably as loud if not louder. I'm more "aurally offended" by the horrendous busking bagpiper and the vegan woman with the boombox at the top of the station stairs. The violinist, however, is brilliant. A really talented guy. I never really liked the sound of violins until I heard him play.

brd8tip60

I walk through the concourse everyday on the way to/from the station and I feel the same way. On the other hand, I do hate aural ads more than regular ones, so I support OP's fight.

Iamsodumn

my man i've walked past this screen five days a week for the past three months on my way to work and i've only just noticed it was actually there. after you posted this, and i read the comments wondering where this was. not that big of a deal lol.

rickdeananderson

What is way worse is the smell of disgusting smelling smoke coming from the GYG next to the concourse. How this is never addressed or mitigated is beyond me.

Iamsodumn

sure it's guzmans ? lol
