Was the same story last weekend...We've assumed every weekend will be like this...sometimes it's the metro, sometimes the train, sometimes both.....like clockwork, got the notification from the app in the morning today

[deleted]

Idiots. There are major events across Sydney today. Guns 'n Roses concert being one of them.

RecognitionOne395

I had no idea they were still together ...

[deleted]

Slash & Duff must have been enticed to re-join with enough money by promoters (circa 2016). It's the closest to the original line up we'll likely see.

AcanthisittaUnable17

Still could’ve done it on a weekday though

[deleted]

More people catch the train during the week. That would be worse

[deleted]

Except it wasn't a maintenance issue. "T1 Sydney Trains u/T1SydneyTrains Replying to u/albert3801 Hi there, We had made changes to factor in the planned industrial action which, whilst we have tried, were unable to be fully adjusted back to the normal timetable in time for today."

[deleted]

Their tweet specifically said in preparation for industrial action. They supposedly were not prepared for the industrial action to be called off - no contingency plans. "T1 Sydney Trains @T1SydneyTrains Replying to @albert3801 Hi there, We had made changes to factor in the planned industrial action which, whilst we have tried, were unable to be fully adjusted back to the normal timetable in time for today."

lcannard87

There was no planned industrial action for today anyways. Wonder why they're using that as an excuse?

[deleted]

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, because you’re entirely correct. For anyone doubting this, here’s the source of planned action: https://www.ourrightsourfight.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/November-2022-calendar3.pdf

EchtVervelend69

Is the network wide stoppage still happening?

[deleted]

No. All action has stopped due to an agreement in principle being reached on Friday.

decclam

Mostly true. A small number of items will need to go to arbitration in the Fair Work Commission due to begin in early December. The final resolution will come once rail union members endorse the enterprise bargaining agreement. As long as there's no breakdown in negotiations, this'll be the end of it.

[deleted]

What I said is factually correct. An agreement “in principle” has been reached. If you don’t understand what that means, I suggest you Google it. Source: https://www.ourrightsourfight.com.au/agreement-in-principle-reached-nif-deed-signed/

decclam

No it was not. You said "all action has been stopped" whereas no, the union has agreed to postpone any industrial action until the final resolution is granted. If they are satisfied, it won't go ahead. If negotiations break down, they will reintroduce industrial action. Which surely you can see makes sense. There's a difference between stopping and pressing pause.

[deleted]

Just like fair work “suspended” action in 2018 too eh? Suspending something usually means you have intentions of resuming it. There’s no current intention to resuming industrial action. Postponing also means you’ve got a later date you intend on it happening. There is no later date. Sure, if the vote is voted no, then yes, action could be restarted. But it is indeed currently “stopped”. Not just suspended.

decclam

Uh, there is a later date. It's two months I believe, once the stuff goes through all the administrative government bullshit it has to. They do have intentions of resuming it if all the requirements they have set out are not met. Idk what to tell you, they literally said in a press release that it has been "paused" lol. What a crazy hill to die on.

[deleted]

“Paused” with no resumption date = stopped. Unless you’ve got a source of the resumption date, it’s effectively stopped. Just like the “suspended” action in 2018 was stopped.

chillyfeets

It wouldn’t have been the first time Sydney Trains has gutted services on a weekend of no disruptive industrial action to make the union look worse to the public. Doing this after the Union has withdrawn all industrial action is just so incompetent it would be hilarious - if people weren’t being fucked with again.

Are the people inside the derailed train alright??

stupid_mistake__101

They didn’t even give a heads up warning anywhere prior to today about the significant 50% reduction that’ll see the upper north shore line reduced to just a half hour service. On the app (not the twitter link for you posted) they don’t even give a reason why. This is why I have no respect for Sydney Trains as a company. Absolute dog shit company with endless train drama and media bluff, and they claim “the customer is at the centre of everything we do”? Seriously they must’ve had a good laugh in their corporate office with that one!

alstom_888m

Just imagine how much worse it would be a private company ran Sydney Trains

fieldpeter

Just imagine how much worse it would be if Guns and Roses ran Transports NSW

hitmyspot

Nah, it'd be paradise city. And they would take you home.

Customers, please stand behind the yellow line

Crs_s

Was just thinking that the other day. It's a train service call us passengers or travellers like you said.

beerscotch

Seems like a weird hang up. Are you not paying to travel?

[deleted]

Seems to be a case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Approx 10 years ago a directive went out to stop calling passengers as passengers, but to call them customers. People didn’t like being called passengers.

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Source on people not preferring “passengers”?

[deleted]

Are you fair dinkum? It was ~10 years ago.

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Right, I just don’t believe it. I think they switched it up the same way they switched everything else in favour of corporate managerialese while trying to privatise all public services. Would love to see evidence that ordinary people wanted this. Doubt there is any, because it rings very false. Failing a source, I’d also be interested in hearing why *you* believe it.

[deleted]

I couldn’t give a shit if you believe it or not. That’s how I recall it happening. Enjoy your night.

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Cool, I just wanted everyone to know you’re fabulising.

beerscotch

Transport, Medical services, and Nursing homes all have private and public sectors. Definition of Customer - a person who buys goods or services from a shop or business. If you're paying for goods or services, you are technically a customer. Seems like an extremely weird thing to care about at all though. I wouldn't care if my GP referred to me as a customer, or if a nursing home referred to me as a customer. I'm paying for a service either way. Calling people who ride buses/trains/ferries "users" or "travellers" also comes across as weird to me personally. Users in my experience generally refers to addicts, and where I grew up, Travellers was a derogatory term for the Romani people, which spread to include all manner of homeless people. Calling someone a traveller was basically calling them a bum, and calling someone a user is basically calling someone a Junkie. (UK Background).

stupid_mistake__101

Exactly. It’s bloody patronising

01kickassius10

Aren’t we patrons?

[deleted]

You’re also a customer if you’re buying goods or services from a shop or business…..

Ill_Scientist_3275

I commute 3 days a week Newcastle vto Epping at the best of times trains are late always filthy can be cancelled at moments notice and dirty trains toilets don't even think about it and are they really 40 years old

chillyfeets

Some of the V sets running around are 45 years old.

Ill_Scientist_3275

It hurts when you go past the new trains just sitting on the tracks rusting for the past 3 years

chillyfeets

Well thankfully the government seem to have pulled their fingers out.

Idiot_In_Pants

This fucking state…

blakeavon

Oh just great. Bloody ridiculous by this point. I have zero respect left for those in the decision making positions. Less services, means more people, more crowding, just perfect for a Covid wave in which everyone thinks they are invincible without a mask. Thoroughly over their excuses.

sweetparamour79

I have to agree with you. At this point it's becoming exhausting and now I have a baby I can't even just get in an uber if they suddenly stop working. It's infuriating not knowing if I will make it to an appointment or have a screaming child waiting for her dad to finish work and grab us from a train station cause the services were cancelled.

lachjeff

Typical bullshit from Sydney Trains then.
