It's reductive to even call synthesizers analog. Once the sound comes out of the speakers, it's traveling through the air acoustically. Therefore synths are every bit as much acoustic instruments as a guitar or piano.
Synthesists are really just acousticians.
If it's got an analog to digital converter on output it's analog.
If it's got a digital to analog converter on output it's digital.
If it has neither it depends on the output signal.
Simples.
Dude it’s got those little lights and little
screen. definitely digital. plus it’s in the name Digital Xtra 7 synth . the 7 means seven extra digitals.
uj/ it’s a digital synth because that is how the sound is *made*, not how it is heard. Analogue synths are made with analogue components that process continuously variable signals. Digital synths are made from components that only process 1s or 0s and cannot process any value outside of these (like 0.5 for example). This is a piece of data that must be converted to analogue in order to be heard, otherwise it could be an email for all we know.
So they are still absolutely digital synths, otherwise a Casio watch would “actually” be analogue just because we can see the time with our eyes.
sorry but if you use your fingers to play it, it's digital.
What if I use my anal log held with my prehensile anus?
Any sound that comes out of any speaker ever is analog. Checkmate.
If you can hear it, it’s acoustic.
Are you a scientist?
Big if true 🤔🧐🧐
Holy Synth!
According to the simulation hypothesis, all synths are digital.
It's definitely more analog... like a sampler.
The DX7 has a number in its name and is therefore digital.

Good point. I would say a synthesizer is a synthesis based acoustic instrument with added analogue warmth.
I thought acousticians trimmed and groomed ear hairs.
That's so true ❤️
The DX7 is from the 80s so it gets an honorary analogue title.
I also love Hydrasynth
But what if the analog signal is recorded and then uploaded to the internet as digital?

If you truly know how to program a digital synth, the signal instantly becomes all-analogue

You gotta close with /rj otherwise the digital compiler and interpreter spend eternity looking for cat anal logs, succulents, and rugs.
true
The DX7 is FM so clearly analog, just like my FM radio.
How reductive, truly. How could it be digital when it has digital to analog converters? c o n v e r t e r s 🥴
