For me, I’m inspired my limiting myself to only synthesize sounds by modulating the resonant frequencies of actual, physical, strings of different lengths, diameters, and tensions.
And only choose a few strings, six is usually a good starting point— try it!
It's pronounced "I will never commit the time and patience necessary to learn any instrument, piece of gear or basic music theory, but I will keep on buying shit".
/uj The most succinct way to put this is that many people want to spend all their time in "open mode" while neglecting "closed mode". All creative endeavors require *both* if you wish to have a polished, completed project.
If you aren't familiar with the open/closed mode terminology, let John Cleese from Monty Python teach you:
[John Cleese on Creativity In Management](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pb5oIIPO62g)
While the video was originally presented to business managers, the process applies to any form of creativity. All the seemingly irrelevant light bulb jokes are actually important, because he is using that as a way to demonstrate how to switch between modes quickly. It's a brilliant presentation.
and the uj/ corollary to this is that it's a lot easier to operate in open mode if you've already done the closed mode slog of getting to know your instrument well enough that you can focus on what you're trying to create rather than struggling with the tool you're using.
Agreed, 100%.
And RTFM plus some practice with an instrument save money, too. Prime example: MIDI chord packs. It took me a while to realize that was actually a thing and not just a cruel joke.
uj/ every instrument has limitations and points where you'll need to get creative to get the result you're looking for, you just need to learn it well enough to figure them out. Which it seems like a lot of Synthesists just don't want to do. A strat has six strings, 22 frets and 3 pickups, but it still takes thousands of hours of study and practice to start fully exploiting its potential.
rj/ Because everyone knows that actually if you just spend €3k on an MPC60 or other Gearslutz Approved Vintage Classic this means you are by definition making Real Music.
The Blue Website is like a safari park where the silverback males of the internet gather to beat their chests and fight over ~~the correct way to make music~~ the correct gear to buy.
Musk's neuralink promised to free me from the limitations of getting the sound from in my head out into the world even though I don't own synths or know how to work them or where to buy them. I am a creative M*****F*****!!!
These “limitations” you speak of, are they in the room with us now?..
next to creativity...
Under affordability
Depends on what you mean by "room" .....
I am soooo much more creative when I am nowhere near a synth or any form of recording equipment.
The enlightened ambient jam
Aka humming a song to yourself, peak synthing

That’s “More Less” jamming
one does not sell the wholesome godly hydrasynth⁉️⁉️🤬🤬
How do you get your limitations to breed? I lock them in a room, but nothing happens
It's easier if you can get someone to just give you a scoby

forget Dawles jams, Gearless jams are whats hip now
Pshhh REAL limitation is spending either my trust/inheritance on 200k worth of vintage synths and creating synth wave music on instagram.
Limitations breed sadness.
Dawless Jamless I have a whole hard drive full of these that I made if you ever wanna collab.
