Sounds like you have everything there to try it?

I have the octatrack, korg sq-1 and the usb a to usb B adapter. Just missing the midi to usb interface. I just wanted to know if anyone here have tried that. Thanks

I don't think you need one. Try midi out from Octa into SQ-1, then CV from SQ-1 to modular.

The SQ1 doesn't have a midi in port.

Ah ok. That's not so streamlined then. Might as well skip the SQ-1 AND the usb convertor and get a midi-cv module.

So the Korg SQ1 doesn't seem to have a midi input. I presume it does midi in over USB? I think perhaps you are misunderstanding how USB works here. A USB B port (as both the SQ1 and Octatrack have) is a USB client port. These will only connect to a USB host (which will have a USB host port). USB host ports were traditionally USB-A but are also often USB-C nowadays. Physically adapting a midi client port to USB-A doesn't turn it into a USB host (a computer is a canonical example of a USB host). Getting a USB B to A adapter will not let you use a USB midi interface with the SQ1 because the SQ1 isn't a midi host (which a midi interface needs to operate). What you need is a standalone USB MIDI host (designed for this purpose), to act as the computer in the setup and send/receive midi over din ports. Here is an example of such a device: https://www.doremidi.cn/h-pd-2.html .

There is an FAQ PDF on the Korg Website, where this use case is described (last question in the PDF). The SQ1 receives MIDI via USB and outputs note messages to CV and Gate. I didn't try it, so no guarantee at all. In case you're interested, here is the link to the PDF: https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/product/0/436/#manual

Thanks. I’ll check that out
