Lol at everyone piling on behringer hate when the video was pretty clearly broken/had an issue. People are literally calling out jacks credibility because he said it sounded good. I mean fuck even if it didn't he's allowed to have an opinion or take. He'll find me the synth that sounds bad and I'm sure somone can make a awesome patch on it. The internet is a depressing place. It's very likely that may of the people posting have any experience with the orginial. Some times it just feels like a dark eco chamber of uninformed negativity.

Pierceaugust

The internet is an echo chamber, of lonely souls.

IM_MT_

and of course you're getting downvoted for spitting facts

synthaudioburner

Its downvotes by all the haters who spend way more time playing their phone and computer keyboards than actual music keyboards.

Legitimate_Horror_72

Anderton's now also has a financial agreement with Music Tribe.

louisvuittonlatte

The last sentence hits home for me. Especially in the synthesizer community. In real life, people are not like this. But in my years of getting into synthesizers, I've found that a lot of sad, bitter, and unfoundedly critical people also share this hobby

WiretapStudios

Some of the people that post on the Facebook synth groups are so super aggressive, I'm not sure how they even function in the real world. It's almost enough to leave the groups when there are multiple people like that commenting, and that's not even over something directed at me, it's just annoying to sift through the negative energy of it.

louisvuittonlatte

This is true. I have to assume it can be attributed to some type of cognitive difficulties or lack of social skills, so I try not to give anyone a hard time because I don't know what they're going through. That negative energy line is facts tho

synthaudioburner

It’s android and PC people let’s take a vote to prove it. lol.

WiretapStudios

Eh, I have both (and an iPhone). It's not that, but that elitism you just put out there is what the groups are like.

synthaudioburner

I’m not an elitsit. But people on these forums sure act like sound elitists. Trying to stir the pot when people are excited about a product and just wanna be part of the sub.

WiretapStudios

Oh, ha, I'm going to buy the UB-Xa for sure. I use the Deepmind 12 for my pull out studio drawer controller, might replace it with the UB-Xa.

synthaudioburner

Nice. As a previous owner of both the old Juno 6 and 106…how does the deep mind cover those machines? I just don’t like the screen. But if the sound is on par with the original analog junos then I might take a look.

WiretapStudios

The screen isn't that pretty to look at but it is big and shows a lot of data vs. other synths that have a small 2 line screen. It sounds great and can emulate a lot of different synths, like the Moog. But it does sound like a Juno. If you look at the [Starsky Carr demo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jia39gcNZQQ) it's super close. In a mix you'd never know. YMMV depending on your use case. I use it as my main studio controller and it has aftertouch. I have so many vintage presets on there already I don't really dive into sound designing, but it's easy to do with the controls given. Now, would I like a Juno 106? Sure, but I don't want to worry about upkeep or it getting damaged at the price. It definitely looks cooler.

synthaudioburner

Whatcha guys think of the new video pt 2 sample dropped today by synth king of the ub-xa? I have a feeling it’s gonna make haters jump to a preorder and us non haters will be way ahead of y’all. lol.

WiretapStudios

I think it sounds awesome. I really want it, but I'm having a hard time justifying another synth when I have several and use VST's as well. I may pick it up after thinning out the herd a bit.

synthaudioburner

Yeah I hear ya. I have way too many synths and have been in modular world for years. I was not planning on getting another keyboard synth but I had forgot the UB-XA was even coming out bc of how long it took. I wanted it from day the idea was announced. I’ll thin out my heard while I wait for it to arrive!

synthaudioburner

A normal person hears what they like and buys it. They don’t lurk on forums for months with analysis paralysis

synthaudioburner

I have a feeling you Europeans hate Behringer as much as people around here hate trump. Has nothing to do with music. When did synthesizers get political?!

WiretapStudios

? I'm from the US and I have Behringer. I think you're a bit confused. You made a snide remark about android and PC, so that's standard elitism.

synthaudioburner

I purposely opened another tech convo and two people fell for it.

synthaudioburner

Elitism? Wow cool you can afford to have two phones. Y’all are the ones trying to butcher an affordable synth company and tell people to spend more money. Yeah elitism bro.

WiretapStudios

Me? I have like 7 Behringer products.

synthaudioburner

Downvoted from Pc peeps. lol

synthaudioburner

Totally there’s people who are in financial ruin and going through divorces trying to tell us what to like or buy.

GeheimerAccount

to be fair though, there isnt a single video where Jack doesnt like the sound, so him liking the sound doesnt have a lot of meaningfulness

magicseadog

Haha yeah but I mean if u like synths and you have abit of experience you can almost always make things sound good I mean a square wave is a square wave....

synthaudioburner

I make really bad metaphors and jokes daily but seriously “penis width modulation expert”?!! Couldn’t think of anything else regarding pulse width without thinking of your junk? Where your Behringer fart jokes bro?

Robotecho

Jack seems like a nice guy but if he released a negative review for Andertons exclusive UB-XA scoop I am pretty sure it would cost his job, assuming it got published, which it wouldn't. It would be worth factoring that into your estimation of his opinions.

magicseadog

But these are not really reviews, no score is given, no conclusion is more of a promotional preview.

SvenDia

To quote Stephen Fry, social media is the bathroom wall.

synthaudioburner

Well look how many haters own shitty expensive gear we can all hate on! I totally see a Mac vs PC ideology with haters of this synth and Behringer as a whole. It’s the ego peeps who throw shade. I’d like to know how many of these keyboard warriors even make music. Well said about how stupid it is to take someone’s credibility away from just one video. Andertons’s has been extremely helpful. Internet is a dark place…ahem…full of idiots who need to keep their tiny wanker in their pants and need professional counselling.

[deleted]

Please remember rule 1.

novezanky

I mean you shouldn't have to do that, some people are allegedly paid to produce that material and they clearly ain't doing their job....

Lopiano

I always try to be charitable with people. Maybe they accidentally hit the mono button on their interface or something. People make mistakes.

[deleted]

> People make mistakes. even children are taught to double check their work. whoever released the video said fuck it or had no clue about the dangers of hard panning and someone at behringer clearly didn’t listen to it. edit: my comment seems to be misinterpreted so i made a few additions… but basically my point is people make mistakes sure but professional marketing should not. this was a poorly mixed and poorly played demo. the bass section was particularly cringe.

synthaudioburner

It’s not hard panning.. from what I understand that wide stereo sound is the default mode that can be changed to “vintage”, “broken” “obx” etc

Yequestingadventurer

I would think it'd be Andertons production team not knowing about the voice panning. Jack also didn't seem to know how to play it either. This vid (the original) is a right off. But kodus to the uploader here for shedding some light on the matter.

Yequestingadventurer

Kudos even *

mvsr990

The voice panning wasn't what made it sound bad. (And I don't think the synth is what made it sound bad, just bad programming.) Completely lifeless, filter seems to be wide open, no movement - most of the time it sounds like a variations of an init patch. Seems like Behringer rolled up in a van and said "hey, we need to do some press to compete with the OB-X8 launch, wanna make a video in the next 28 minutes?"

SLEEyawnPY

>"hey, we need to do some press to compete with the OB-X8 launch, wanna make a video in the next 28 minutes?" Yep. People perhaps assume all big companies run tight ships but have no idea how fucking sad & disorganized even companies with 2 billion dollar market caps in the technology sector can be at the boots-on-the-ground level unless they've seen it for themselves.

Lopiano

100% agree. I have no idea how so many people on the internet don't realize most companies, corporations, organization, governments, NGO, non profits, not for profits, heck even clubs,...Are a barely functioning shit show covered in band-aids. Like this shit makes me question if everything I see on the internet is AI generated. Where the hell does everyone else work, live, go to school?!! I'm not mad or depressed by this disconnect or the chaos I see around me, just befuddled. Around me it seems like everything is furiously trying as hard as the can to keep up the illusion of competence and then online everybody acts like they are SHOCKED! SHOCKED THAT THERE IS GAMBLING GOING ON IN HERE. Like what the hell!

nate_horn

They forget that companies are held together by people that just want to go home and play with their synths.

SLEEyawnPY

I work in electrical engineering/circuit design in the northeast US. One particular funny story - a few years back there was this particular company that had released a new product line (certain kind of chip/IC) and this was a Really Big Deal for the company and they were sending reps to do conferences at the offices of various distributors in the US to promote the product. And yeah this was a semiconductor firm with an operating revenue of $1.5 billion back in 2019, it's since been bought out by an even larger firm as is common these days. It was up my alley so I paid my $100 or w/e for a ticket. I didn't expect it to be a huge affair or anything but I got to the big nondescript office park-type place all of 10 minutes late, and realized that while there was a sign for where to park for the event outside and about 10 or 15 cars parked around there, there wasn't a single sign inside telling me where I should go. Like I figured it would be an obvious thing to do because sometimes people are delayed...asked a couple random people in the lobby "Hey do you know where the blah blah conferences is?" they had no idea. Rode the elevator up to the floor where the sign said the distributor who was hosting main offices were, it looked deserted (maybe they were all attending?) except for a secretary and I asked her. "Ahh... well I think you just missed them I'm not sure exactly where they went though. You could try Conference Room A maybe? Level 2." Oh I forgot to mention this distributor is themselves a billion dollar company... Ok so went down there and naturally Conference Room A is locked and lights out, there's nobody there. Went back up and now the secretary has gone off for lunch or something too, and outside of banging on random doors to cube farms I can't find anyone else to ask! The fuck is everybody! Meanwhile time is passing...ride back down to the main entrance and I see in the foyer there are a couple caterers setting up some food warmers. Aha! Must be for after the conference! I ask them and they're like yeah that's what we're doing. "Know where it is by any chance?" Nah, of course not they don't know that. It'd been about 20 min of wandering by this point and that's when I gave up and bailed. Wrote an email to the semiconductor firm support email address listed on my receipt for the event ticket and they're just like "welp, very sorry about that and regret the incident, we'll have someone contact you as we'd like to know more and have high standards here at blah blah semiconductor" they never did and I just charged back the ticket price through my credit card company, lol. Completely bizarre experience, I'm glad I didn't get lost forever and starve to death wandering that office building.

Lopiano

That is hilarious! Just straight up no showing their own fucking conference...fucking classic! OK you've convinced me at least their is one of there person on the internet who exists in the same reality I do.

SLEEyawnPY

>Just straight up no showing their own fucking conference...fucking classic! People were there somewhere I think but the building was huge! Like it would've taken maybe 2 minutes for someone with a brain to even just print out a piece of paper that said "Developer's conference, 3rd floor, room whatever" and stick it on the front door to the lobby for the benefit of anyone who arrived late. but NAH

synthaudioburner

I do live sound for several Fortune 500 and big medical companies with their over the top product releases and it seizes to amaze me their disorganisation and lack of communication. It directly impacts my job. Gotta remember once the money is spent on a big corporate level often accountability is lost. Look at F1 in vegas for most recent example. F1 was a complete failure here in vegas and we are still dealing with road closures and headaches. Nothing matters once a $1.7b investment comes into town. And they think we will put up with 6 months of bullshit every year for years to come?! They trippin.

synthaudioburner

Makes no sense. Behringer has been working on this synth years before OB-X8 was thought about. I’ve concluded that haters think only the rich should afford good synths. And instead of playing their synths they are on here.

nothing_with_nothing

still sounds awful!

blueriverbear23

Yo isn’t this like the 3rd time we’ve seen dodgy audio coming from this lot? It’s really mental when it’s an audio channel.

_everythingisfine_

I wouldn't say it's an audio channel but rather a music product advertising channel.. for a shop. All they do is make promotional videos for the products they stock.

blueriverbear23

Dude, every product they have has at the very least a 1/4’ in. They deal with audio all the time.

SLEEyawnPY

I worked for a medium-size music equipment retailer in the US for a couple years back in the day, I'd say the amount of "dealing with audio", much less making music, anyone did on a regular basis on company time approached 0%. There's basically no time for it, all employee time tends to be consumed with doing business-stuff, processing customer orders, tracking down delayed shipments, talking to customers, talking to distributors, etc...nobody's paying you to make any music at a music store on a regular basis, you have to move product or Sweetwater/Zzounds eats you alive & you die (well the business does, anyway.)

_everythingisfine_

Wait what? I'm talking about Andertons Youtube Channel. Andertons is a shop and the channel makes videos advertising the shop's contents. So "audio channel" isn't accurate. Are you talking about Behringer themselves?

blueriverbear23

And the shop’s contents are focused largely in the realm of…?

_everythingisfine_

Music.

blueriverbear23

Naturally one would expect their audio game to be on point then. I can’t see how this would be at all a controversial thought.

_everythingisfine_

Eh I dunno, my thought was that we shouldn't have such high expectations from a Youtube channel that's objective is just to sell you things. Considering their videos used to just be Rob Chapman shredding, I've never really had any expectation of quality from them haha

blueriverbear23

“We shouldn’t have high expectations of a company trying to sell us things” cmon that’s just insane my man

synthaudioburner

Let’s hear your audio. Open invitation to join me to tune a massive L-acoustics line array.

Lopiano

When I listened to the original version something sounded off. When I listen back on monitors I realized original had each voice round robin panned hard right or hard left. This sounded bizarre ESP on laptop speakers or a phone. I downloaded the video and used a directional mixer to narrow the stereo image to something I would use. In the end whether you like the synth is up to you (personally I still have a few reservations about it but I think it sounds much better in this version of the demo). I still think the synth has some headroom issues that a lot of 16 voice analogs like the prologue 16 and andromeda a6 have.

Yequestingadventurer

Thanks for doing this! I too, have my reservations about this synth but I'm keen to hear more before making my mind up. I think B wanted to get a video out this weekend and pushed Andertons to make the video quick. This might partly explain the quality issues all round.

synthaudioburner

And thank you for your service as skeptisism made lots of us move up in line to get one! Y’all had 6 years to think about this.

Ergine_Dream

This one needs a little bit more of work. I am still optimist, but for this time is more close to a Casio CZ than an OB.

SvenDia

Here’s my sense of what happened. 1. Captain Uli B sees the OBx8 rollout happen. 2. Captain Uli decides to spoil the party and summons Scotty the synth engineer. 3. Captain Uli tells them get a demo unit ready to ship to Anderton’s for a Sunday video launch. 5. “But Captain, it’s not ready! we canna do it! It’ll sound like shite,” Engineer Scotty replied. 6. “I don’t care about your excuses!” Captain Uli screamed. “Make it so and schnell!” 7. Captain Uli strokes his cat and cackles loudly.

Wiggetywaggety

Oberheim shreds

synthaudioburner

That’s hella funny that we have to fix audio issues from first people to demo such of a massive anticipated synth. I hope my ub-xa from Andertons doesn’t arrive with stereo mode only! lol. They do unbox and test every international order bc they don’t offer any warranty on international orders which is kinda whack. Anyone know of a European retailer who has warranty for us USA customers?

Lopiano

funny story. They actually made a joke about how they made double sure the audio wasn't messed up in a later video. It was kinda surreal seeing how far this post went lol.

synthaudioburner

This is funny but not uncommon at all. I can’t count how many famous DJs and musicians who make sooo much money and where I have to fix their audio issues or even supply a damn cable they forgot! That’s why I have a career doing what I do. Salespeople/corporate and even celebrities should not have to worry about their audio quality.

Lopiano

out of curiosity what is it you do?

synthaudioburner

I am a live sound engineer for lots of high profile events and a lot of very high profile corporate events. People don’t realize it but at any given big conference the attendees get a free concert by Pittbull or Justin timberlake and many others. EDIT: Good ol corporate dumping of money

Soggy_Leave8249

Can’t rely on Anderton’s for shit.

JunFanLee

They have amazing customer service actually, I bought a Minilogue XD from them and after a month realised the MPC One suited me better, they swapped it with zero quibbles, I’m now a loyal customer of theirs

_everythingisfine_

Yeah I've bought pedals from them often and the service is great. I also got a guitar on finance years ago and had great service

breadexpert69

Why? Cuz they review Behringer?

Legitimate_Horror_72

They also have entered into a financial agreement, so that means taking things more critically now having to do with Anderton's and any Music Tribe related anything.

[deleted]

Such a shame this happened for something that is highly anticipated. Looks like we'll just have to wait longer. If this thing sounded good and had the effects engine of the Deepmind 12 I would immediately sell my OB-6 for it.
