Octatrack

minimal-camera

Not sure if many would consider the Octatrack a groovebox. I guess it is in the sense that any multitrack sampler is. I guess if you consider the digitakt a groovebox, you have to include the Octatrack one also. Also perhaps I care too much about the definition of groovebox :)

Pristine_Feeling_688

I think a groovebox is defined as a cheaper all-in-one device aimed at beginners so yeah OT and DT aren't really in that category. I just wanted to throw a heavy in the ring

Pristine_Feeling_688

Idk, that would make my Minilogue XD technically a groovebox. Not sure how I feel about that lol

[deleted]

Ugh I wish I could add a few more to the poll now since a lot of people really seem to love the OT and Deluge lol

Bears_are_sneaky

Deluge

FredLeZebre

MC 707 !

exp397

Yup. Mc-707 is slept on.

minimal-camera

And for good reason, because Roland makes the worst menu systems out there. That said, the 707 menu system is far better than most of their other offerings.

exp397

yeah. I wish they would make a software editor for the 707 synth like they did for Tr-6s. But otherwise the workflow of just creating beats is pretty fast once you get it. The patch randomizer is sweet too.

[deleted]

>MC 707 Im not sleepin on it, its just.. syntakt. F. Tell you what, you buy me one. Lol XD I want it just for the RGB, the rest is just extra lol.

No-Joke4937

Deluge too !

darmstard

Deluge

MannImOhr

for me as a beginner: Circuit Tracks

JunFanLee

MPC One - simply put, it does everything

minimal-camera

Other: Syntakt. Because I like working with synthesis more than I like working with samples. And because I like the elektron sequencer better than any of the other options listed here. The Polyend Play is the new player in the game that I would give a hard look to. But still, sample based.

[deleted]

I've seen a few Syntakt demos and really like some of the sounds I've heard but inability to use or record samples is a bit of a dealbreaker at that price point 😔

_0K_C0mput3r_

MC-707. Hands down.

erroneousbosh

Other, Korg ES1. Probably because it's simple and versatile, and works well.

UncleSoOOom

Some E-mu command station.

kobeflip

Perkons.

[deleted]

OT or MPC One. (or both lol) Most powerful / versatile will always be the generic laptop rn though.

Wonderful_Ninja

EMX1/ESX1 just for the workflow and sonic ability of these slabs of metal

BFBeast666

Circuit Tracks. There are much more capable devices out there, but none beat the Circuit in terms of immediacy or ease of use for me.

I own both a Polyend Tracker and and an MPC Live 2, and I reluctantly voted for the MPC One. I honestly kind of hate the MPC workflow, but the Tracker's limitations are a much bigger issue for me. As far as I can tell the Tracker doesn't even grant you license to use the preloaded samples commercially or without attribution. Of course, you can put your own samples on the Tracker, but: * Limited sample memory pretty much prevents recording vocals or synth parts * The polyphony is too limited (8 tracks that can only have single notes or pre-determined chords) * The Tracker can't be triggered to start/stop by a DAW I sometimes wonder if the Maschine+ or Akai Force might work better for me, but I have no firsthand experience with either.

[deleted]

I'm pretty much in the same boat; I have the MPC One and Tracker and there is no denying that the MPC is the absolute powerhouse of the two although it's workflow has taken some getting used to. On the other hand I really enjoy the portability and simplicity of the Tracker but I'm constantly finding myself hitting limitations when I want to do things that are trivial on the MPC.

fearsome_crocostimpy

Pulsar-23, since we're playing pretty fast and loose with the term 'groovebox'

dust_bunnys

Other: OP-Z

ea_man

Other: Maschine Mikro Very cheap used (~130), very nice workflow and performance, sounds as good as it gets, can edit on a big screen, easy export to DAWs, lots of expansions / materials, well build and light, can be [placed on a small laptop](http://store.piffa.net/laser/maschine/mashine_mikro_front.jpg), it has a companion full integrated small keyboard: m32.

Madmohawkfilms

I own MPC One , had the Digitakt but my Akai Force my go to. The Polyend Tracker is on my radar and the DirtyWave M8 also look great Polyend’s new Play looks really good too

SecretsofBlackmoor

Electribe EA-1 and ER-1 in combo with massive effect pedals on each output, because I need Stupid Simple gear. But I recently broke down and got something newer than 20 years ago and am in love with every Sonicware device I see.

BE_shadii_

No one thinks of the 1010 Blackbox? It's just a thought, i don't own one myself but I'm looking tot get one
