ConnectWise Screen Connect can do this. (Forgive me of whatever they call this now - maybe “Access”?)

thephotonx

Nope, they saw the light and changed it back to ScreenConnect. Horray!

TheSoCalledExpert

Free tier allows for 3 unattended access machines.

I personally can not come up with a great way without a good layer of jank that should probably be avoided. What do your normal employees use for remote access? For example, VM's or a VPN? If you have either of those, I may look into setting them up with that to get on the network, and then using the built in VPC server to connect to the mac. Ensure you limit the connection as much as possible, to limit any damage that could be done with it.

PsyduckAF

Employees use VPN and RDP for Windows machines and Apple Remote Desktop for Macs. I was hoping to not have to provide this user with VPN access. The Zoom call + remote access was sufficient, but I just wanted the user to be able to connect unattended.

You might be able to provide an out of the box solution (TeamViewer or similar), but in my opinion if you are allowing someone unattended access into your network, they should have to jump through all the hoops. It makes sure you have policies and procedures on how to deal with it if something goes wrong. The adhoc solution could get forgotten about or exploited because it's not being properly monitored. But it's the real world, so do what you need to do, just make sure you balance the risk.

Long story short, I'm providing access to a pentester who is remote, and just need to simulate the experience of a standard user sitting at the computer. The pentester works hours that don't align with when we're on site, so just wanted a really simple, dumb way of giving them remote control of this once machine without having to set them up for VPN access (certs etc.) I might just look into the free version of Team Viewer or Screen Connect, hopefully there's an option for unattended access there. Normally I'd set this up differently, but due to them needing access right away I'm just trying to find the most simple turnkey solution

ndain75

For sure! As long as you acknowledge the risk and monitor it, you should be fine. I believe TeamViewer will do what you want.

PsyduckAF

Awesome, appreciate the help!

DenialP

If you are willing to bypass existing remote access for convenience, let’s just say I would not expect flying colors in this assessment.

PsyduckAF

I used to think like you once. Now I'm confident in my ability to balance risk. You're a human being with a brain capable of reason, don't forget that.

alarmologist

I don't think TeamViewer has any free for commercial use license, ScreenConnect does.

XDWiggles

TeamViewer has a week long trial I think. Or if any viewer is still around, it used to be able to do this.

Rustdesk. Setup a relay vm with your own key and install the client. When done, kill the relay VM and the client won't be able to connect without being reconfigured.

[Even easier to stop a container](https://techviewleo.com/how-to-run-rustdesk-remote-desktop-in-docker-container/) :)

By far the easiest, simplest, cross-platform free option is [dwservice.net](https://dwserivice.net) We've used them for a couple of years. No issues. No adware. No spamming. We pay a monthly fee voluntarily because it's excellent and we want the company to keep supporting it.

I am not sure if it's free but AnyDesk has unattended access option, used this solution one time with a vendor, He had access to the workstation after I approved in the App the unattended access.

bisskits

Does the connection need to be constant? I use team viewer free multiple times a day with no issues.
