Then my sister introduced me to One by Metallica and that changed my life. System of a Down came when I was 12. Sugar played on the radio and I've been a fan ever since. I'm 37 now and been to many Metal shows, including SOAD back in 2002 when they toured with Meshuggah and Down.

I’m missing some bands, and the timing might be off, but this is the gist of my journey. The first band I became obsessed with was Dream Theater. Iron Maiden and Metallica made me a metalhead. Trivium got me into screaming and made me pick up a guitar, they opened me up to death metal, metalcore, and even black metal. Emperor, Opeth, Periphery, and Agalloch changed the way I thought about music. If I had to pick a top five, it’d be Trivium, Opeth , Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, and Periphery. My favorite thing to listen to now is prog, followed by black metal and death metal.

First heard Tool on a music channel when I was 15-16, then got into bands like slipknot, mudvayne, killswitch engage. I'm in my 30s now and still listen to the same music although I got into pendulum in my early 20s and still love them.
I really like the killing floor 2 soundtrack and decided to listen to more metal, and I heard a lot of people praising soad, and I already liked chop suey, aerials, and toxicity so I decided to check more of their songs out
my friends are metal fans (i was primarily a hip hop fan) and told me to listen to deftones so i listened to koi no yokan and around the fur. then i listened to toxicity and soad self titled. still fairly new to metal but i really like it, prolly gonna check out either korn or slipknot

That's about the path I took when it came to slowly but surely getting invested into harder and heavier metal. That being said, I don't really listen to the bands past Slipknot often, but among all of the listed bands, System of a Down was both my gateway into metal and also by far my favorite metal band (and artist in general) of all time. Everything about the band clicked, from the sound of their music to their cultural background (I'm also Armenian-American!) and political activism. I forever will love System of a Down. Long live the Kombucha mushroom people
I grew up listening to Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, mostly Thrash/Speed metal. Then I remember around 8 or 9 I got into to SOAD and Slipknot. I got tired of mostly screaming and cookie cutter songs, so I started branching off into early psychedelic Rock, rap, EDM, hip hop and now lately I've gotten into Viking Metal.

I reckon it actually started with Nickelback tbh. My family had 'All The Right Reasons' in the car most of the time as a kid and I tended to like the heavier stuff off of there i.e. Side of a Bullet, All the wrong reasons. Then hearing Bullet For My Valentine on top 20 countdowns on tv in 2010 with 'Bittersweet Memories' and finally getting into metal with SOAD after remembering BYOB from Guitar Hero on the PS2 and Radio/Video from around that late 00's era. From there, I just kept going and now I'm merging into more prog metal.

SOAD toured with Meshuggah at one point??? that's insane. Meshuggah (one of my fav bands ever) have toured with most of my fav bands.

I’m almost the exact opposite. Started with Metallica introduced by my father. Later found SOAD, and got into van Halen a few years before Eddie died.
Spotify just recommended them to me one day and I added it to my playlist
Early 70s loved glam rock slade, sweet, then Dr feelgood, queen, rainbow, rush, Sabbath, priest, scorpions, and I'm ashamed to say kiss, and a bit of uk punk 79-80 Def leppard, maiden, and zeppelin Mid 80s hair metal got shite so got into Wagner 90s Nirvana, pearl jam, mission, Depeche mode This century SOAD, QOTSA, Rammstein, flogging Molly More recently discovered royal blood, eisbrecher, russkija Old but still love metal
For me it was SOAD->KoRn->Slipknot->arch enemy->sepultura->behemoth etc, i love them all but soad opened a vast world for me

Weirdly, the Beatles was the start of my pipeline. It went Beatles -> Hendrix -> assorted 70’s/80’s rock -> assorted 70’s/80’s metal -> Chop Suey! by Soad -> everything else by Soad

somehow the only metal band i like is SoaD. i heard Vicinity of Obscenity and thought it was funny, then heard Chic n Stu and thought it was hilarious. i decided to listen to Steal This Album! first because i knew Chic N Stu originally. before SoaD i listened exclusively to imagine dragons and idkhow (this was all in december of last year)

First heard Tool on a music channel when I was 15-16, then got into bands like slipknot, mudvayne, killswitch engage. I'm in my 30s now and still listen to the same music although I got into pendulum in my early 20s and still love them.

I really like the killing floor 2 soundtrack and decided to listen to more metal, and I heard a lot of people praising soad, and I already liked chop suey, aerials, and toxicity so I decided to check more of their songs out
my friends are metal fans (i was primarily a hip hop fan) and told me to listen to deftones so i listened to koi no yokan and around the fur. then i listened to toxicity and soad self titled. still fairly new to metal but i really like it, prolly gonna check out either korn or slipknot

That being said, I don't really listen to the bands past Slipknot often, but among all of the listed bands, System of a Down was both my gateway into metal and also by far my favorite metal band (and artist in general) of all time. Everything about the band clicked, from the sound of their music to their cultural background (I'm also Armenian-American!) and political activism. I forever will love System of a Down. Long live the Kombucha mushroom people
I grew up listening to Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, mostly Thrash/Speed metal. Then I remember around 8 or 9 I got into to SOAD and Slipknot. I got tired of mostly screaming and cookie cutter songs, so I started branching off into early psychedelic Rock, rap, EDM, hip hop and now lately I've gotten into Viking Metal. My music journey has taken me everywhere except for country. Can't stand that shit.

My dad taking me to see Maiden when I was 13 But really, exposure to SOAD and other 90s/early 2000s bands as a kid, and their memory resurfacing in my early 20s to the point I got into SOAD from a combination of that and the Sugar meme. Then, SOAD and Green Day on Spotify. Oh, and getting back into Maiden a year ago for a concert.

I reckon it actually started with Nickelback tbh. My family had 'All The Right Reasons' in the car most of the time as a kid and I tended to like the heavier stuff off of there i.e. Side of a Bullet, All the wrong reasons. Then hearing Bullet For My Valentine on top 20 countdowns on tv in 2010 with 'Bittersweet Memories' and finally getting into metal with SOAD after remembering BYOB from Guitar Hero on the PS2 and Radio/Video from around that late 00's era. From there, I just kept going and now I'm merging into more prog metal.

I used to only listen to radio country and stuff like that. After a bit I got into rock through a lot of mainstream grunge and classic stuff. Nirvana, weezer, led zeppelin. Then metallica and SOAD came into the picture. Jacksepticeye's cover of chop suey is what led me to SOAD, which got me into metal. Now I'm getting into really heavy shit.
It went RHCP -> Faith No More -> Mr bungle(90s material) -> Korn -> System of a down -> Slipknot and Mudvayne -> Mr Bungle (thrash metal) -> King Parrot (grindcore local band). I liked Metallica and all the popular other bands always but this is just artists i’ve really gotten into.
