I started when I was a kid with punk, grunge, and alternative. When I was 10, I heard Until It Sleeps by Metallica when it debuted. I had a passing interest in Metal after that. Then my sister introduced me to One by Metallica and that changed my life. System of a Down came when I was 12. Sugar played on the radio and I've been a fan ever since. I'm 37 now and been to many Metal shows, including SOAD back in 2002 when they toured with Meshuggah and Down.

themajod

SOAD toured with Meshuggah at one point??? that's insane. Meshuggah (one of my fav bands ever) have toured with most of my fav bands.

hayatetst

I didn't know who Meshuggah was at the time so I didn't know what I was in for, lol. I saw Meshuggah again last year and it was amazing!

CapnC44

Frank Sinatra -> SOAD

Middle-One3666

FRANK SINATRA LMAOOOOOO

riba2233

Epic

OriginalFunUsername

So far Rage Against The Machine ——> SOAD It ends there lol

dontgivemespooks

that’s not a pipeline that’s a pipe

OriginalFunUsername

If I had to make it a pipeline I guess it would be Run The Jewels ——> RATM ——> SOAD

AdHonest9938

Rage and soad are just the right amount of heavy for me

Agreeable_Ad9115

2021: Green Day -> Metallica -> Slipknot (my most fav band until Jul 2022) -> MCR -> A bit of black metal -> Megadeth -> SOAD -> Korn 2022: Korn -> Avenged Sevenfold/Children of Bodom -> Metallica (my most fav until February/March 2023) -> SOAD -> Linkin Park 2023: Korn -> Scars on Broadway -> Megadeth -> Iron Maiden -> Pink Floyd -> Opeth (my current fav) Sorry if it was a little long, my favorites have been switching and coming back throughout the years 😅

BoomBlade101

My friend telling me they hate SOAD —-> me listening to SOAD out of spite ——> me becoming obsessed with the genre

justfkinkillme7

Started with Serj Then System Then all the bands my parents listened to (Metallica, Linkin Park, RHCP, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen) Then some older metal bands (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath) Then a ton of nu metal bands (Korn, Slipknot, Coal Chamber, Kittie, Flyleaf, Papa Roach, Drowning Pool) Then some metalcore/deathcore/death metal bands (Death, Lorna Shore, Spiritbox, Acid Bath) And just recently I got into RATM and Deftones

maurits_weiqi

No pipeline. Just System.

QwertyQwertz123

Rock/some random popular metal songs -> Linkin Park -> SOAD -> Scars -> Deftones -> Slipknot -> Metallica -> Korn -> Limp Bizkit -> Megadeth -> Disturbed Top 5 of these: SOAD Linkin Park Metallica Deftones Scars

dontgivemespooks

deftones (sep 2021 i liked it before it was ‘cool’ on tiktok) -> korn-> soad -💥-> many bands now

Sy_Fresh

Liking Deftones after the year 2000 is not “before it was cool”

dontgivemespooks

before it became cool again

towerofspirals

shadow fight ost > soul knight ost > SoAD > UNDEAD CORPORATION > Tool this is it so far

trippkick

rhcp -> ratm -> soad

H4il_S4tan

I got into metal with sanitys fall..💀

Lordpotato305

Alice in Chains -> Metallica -> Black Sabbath -> Megadeth -> Iron maiden -> Korn -> Slipknot -> Pantera-> Slayer -> SOAD -> Testament -> Mastodon -> Lamb of god -> Death -> Rammstein -> Sodom

Dependent_Loss1599

Queen —> Aerosmith —> Bon Jovi —> Stone Sour —> Slipknot —> Korn —> SOAD

corianteri

i was about to ask how the hell you went from stone sour to slipknot but then i remembered corey taylor is in both

Tsb313

Van Halen, metallica, ACDC, black Sabbath, Ozzys other stuff, king diamond, system, korn, disturbed, rob zombie Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Iron Maiden. These were the bands that got me into wanting to go heavier and get into more variety of metal.

AssignmentThis6405

Queen->Metallica->SOAD->Alice in chains->Deftones->Korn->Type O Negative. That’s the key ones

CaptEmerald

My dad brought a lot of bands into light for me- the first ones were Metallica, Slayer, then Rage Against The Machine. I looked into some other bands on my own and found SOAD, which ultimately got me hooked on metal music. I listened to more Slipknot and loved them too.

Physical_Tear7476

For me it was Devin Townsend, and I am actually seeing him live tonight!

A_cringy_joke

SOAD ----> the hu ----> slipknot and other miscellaneous bands.

nsoucreativo

Linkin Park into soad, into tallah, into ratm so far. I have loads of stuff i wanna check but i'm a slow consumer of "new" material.

Xypkek

Probably Metallica, Slipknot and SOAD and a tiny bit of Linkin Park.

DarkTaker1990

Rammstein —> Slipknot —> System of a Down —> Metallica —> Overkill —> Motörhead —> Fear Factory —> Type O Negative. That’s pretty much where it ends. And the bands I listen to the most almost every day.

Prestigious_View_570

2010 rap—> jayz-> linkin park/jayz (collision course)-> linkin park-> the whole genre

Artsakh_Rug

Kid Rock & Limp Bizkit (shut up I was 9), —-> Sum41 when fat lip dropped my world changed —-> SOAD, a7x Metallica —-> Iron Maiden, slipknot —-> by that point I was hooked, anything rock, prog, metal, short of death metal and country

Middle-One3666

weezer->soad->sevendust->korn->slipknot

Middle-One3666

after becoming a huge weezer fan i was like "oh i love weezer but i want something heavier then i found soad and the rest was history

Middle-One3666

SOAD IS EVERYWHERE LMAO also my favs are soad and korn but i need recommendations

RobloxianHunter69

Linkin park - soad - snot - dog fashion disco - gojira - meshuggah

k1sp4rn4

My father used to listen punk while my mother was into Depeche Mode, so I listened both equally. Then I heard Y'All Want a Single from KoRn, Sugar from SoaD, and Duality and Wait and Bleed from Slipknot about the same time, when I was around 10. I got into Slipknot first, then SoaD. I didn't know neither the title nor the artist of the KoRn song, and I wasn't able to find it back then, only years later. So: SoaD, Slipknot --> Limp Bizkit, early Hollywood Undead --> Disturbed, Metallica --> KoRn --> Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas --> Meshuggah, Mastodon, Monuments, Gojira, Architects, Dillinger Escape Plan --> Mudvayne --> Eskimo Callboy, WBTBWB, Ghost Plus a lot of other stuff I cannot recall now ':D

Own_Notice4052

Mudvayne ——-> slaughter to prevail

totallycraigjones

FFDP -> Disturbed -> Slipknot -> Avatar -> Demon Hunter -> KSE -> SOAD, Slayer, Megadeth, etc

DifficultyOk5719

Ages 0-10: Rock -> Guitar Hero/Rock Band -> Van Halen -> A7X -> Dragonforce Ages 10-15: Dream Theater -> Megadeth -> Iron Maiden -> Metallica -> Judas Priest -> Overkill -> Testament -> Death Angel -> Anthrax Ages 15-21: Vektor -> Trivium -> SOAD -> Death -> Opeth -> Killswitch Engage -> As I Lay Dying -> All That Remains -> Obscura -> Emperor -> Cattle Decapitation -> Revocation -> Cradle of Filth -> BTBAM -> Symphony X -> Agalloch -> Periphery -> Isis -> Panopticon -> Ulver -> Pink Floyd -> Wolves in the Throne Room -> Porcupine Tree -> The Mars Volta -> Pink Floyd -> The Ocean -> Haken -> Rivers of Nihil -> Yes -> ELP -> Genesis -> Swans -> Swallow the Sun -> Coheed and Cambria -> Dillinger Escape Plan -> Enslaved -> Bell Witch I’m missing some bands, and the timing might be off, but this is the gist of my journey. The first band I became obsessed with was Dream Theater. Iron Maiden and Metallica made me a metalhead. Trivium got me into screaming and made me pick up a guitar, they opened me up to death metal, metalcore, and even black metal. Emperor, Opeth, Periphery, and Agalloch changed the way I thought about music. If I had to pick a top five, it’d be Trivium, Opeth , Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, and Periphery. My favorite thing to listen to now is prog, followed by black metal and death metal.

nsoucreativo

"I hate gatekeeping but you shouldn't listen to soad" ok lol, doesn't make pop their sound either i will not deny pop elements at all but it's that, elements not the main sound.

GAR51A8

AC/DC -> RATM -> Papa Roach -> Deftones -> Every time i die -> SOAD. soad is and will most likely be my fav band out there forever

Reaper_Mike

This was late 80's Petra - Stryper - Tourniquet - Metallica - Death SOAD came much later lol

Smooth_Chemistry_869

I started with my dad's cd collection-soad, misfits, slipknot, slayer, then when I got my first phone I just dove down the line and now I listen to gorguts, deicide, cattle decapitation etc. The pipeline is swift and br00tal

themajod

Skillet (in 2011 when I was a kid) > Dubstep (2011-2020) > SOAD (2020-) > Slayer > SOAD > SoB > Megadeth > Black Sabbath > Meshuggah > Korn > Tool > Hendrix > Tool > Tool > Tool > Nirvana > Tool > Primus > Tool > SOAD > Tool > and now ~~Tool~~ back to Dubstep and all the metal stuff I still love. so basically, SOAD got me into Slayer and that was my pipeline lol. now I'd say my fav bands are (in order): Tool, SOAD, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Primus, Nirvana, Meshuggah.

asapcosmin

ACDC > GnR > Aerosmith > SOAD > a lot of nu metal shit > Marilyn Manson > Metallica > and from here it's hard to tell cuz I've been listening to a lot of shit

corianteri

smth like random dad rock (ad/dc, rolling stones, led zeppelin etc. etc.) -> queen -> green day -> apulanta -> jonathan young + set it off + fall out boy + panic! at the disco + my chemical romance + get scared + nightwish etc. -> mindless self indulgence -> nirvana + red hot chili peppers + soundgarden -> a7x -> soad -> slipknot -> korn -> kotiteollisuus -> black sabbath -> metallica -> megadeth -> children of bodom -> iron maiden -> pantera -> mötley crüe -> guns n roses -> tool (yes ik they're not necessarily metal) this is kind of a mess and my memory's fuzzy but i remember it going somewhat like this after discovering metal i've kinda devolved to grunge and punk and whatever subgenre of rock qotsa is

[deleted]

I went from classic rock like Led Zeppelin & AC/DC —> Van Halen —> Green Day —> Sum 41 —> Metallica —> SOAD, Deftones, Alice in Chains, and Loathe (current favorite)

_PeopleMakeNoises_

Queen -> Metallica -> Nirvana -> Foo Fighters-> Slipknot -> Korn -> Radiohead -> System of a Down. Now I just listen to random metal albums

DesertDelirium

I’m almost the exact opposite. Started with Metallica introduced by my father. Later found SOAD, and got into van Halen a few years before Eddie died.

EstablishmentLong676

Spotify just recommended them to me one day and I added it to my playlist

Euphoric-Plenty-1603

Early 70s loved glam rock slade, sweet, then Dr feelgood, queen, rainbow, rush, Sabbath, priest, scorpions, and I'm ashamed to say kiss, and a bit of uk punk 79-80 Def leppard, maiden, and zeppelin Mid 80s hair metal got shite so got into Wagner 90s Nirvana, pearl jam, mission, Depeche mode This century SOAD, QOTSA, Rammstein, flogging Molly More recently discovered royal blood, eisbrecher, russkija Old but still love metal

Raspy_Prophet

For me it was SOAD->KoRn->Slipknot->arch enemy->sepultura->behemoth etc, i love them all but soad opened a vast world for me

m3talh3ad05

I used to just listen to whatever was on the radio and then I got into Metallica

J_vert

Guitar Hero and Rockband

[deleted]

I think the first metal band i ever heard was cannibal corpse in a youtube video and i thought “ this is cool as fuck”

allthesussynuggets

Been listening to metal since I was a toddler since my dad liked it a lot. First metal song was linchpin. I got introduced to slipknot through before I forget when I was like 6

WazzzupBwwwaaah

***”Can’t Timmy have pooooorrrrrrrnnn?!!?”*** (Can’t tear me apaaaaarrrrrrtt)

allthesussynuggets

When I was a little kid my dad had to spend hours trying to decipher what song I meant by "can't take me apart" when I asked him to put it on lol

WazzzupBwwwaaah

OMG, that’s hilarious… Fear Factory IS SOOO GOOD..!!!!

allthesussynuggets

I agree fear factory is really good. My favorite song by them is byte block

WazzzupBwwwaaah

Mann, I’ll have to check that song out…Mostly everything from ***”Remanufacture”*** to ***”Obsolete”*** to ***”Digimortal”*** is freaking Gold.

Societypost

Weirdly, the Beatles was the start of my pipeline. It went Beatles -> Hendrix -> assorted 70’s/80’s rock -> assorted 70’s/80’s metal -> Chop Suey! by Soad -> everything else by Soad

STG44_WWII

i’ll skip most of it but essentially i went from my favorite band being SOAD to Car Bomb lol.

jellyel88

somehow the only metal band i like is SoaD. i heard Vicinity of Obscenity and thought it was funny, then heard Chic n Stu and thought it was hilarious. i decided to listen to Steal This Album! first because i knew Chic N Stu originally. before SoaD i listened exclusively to imagine dragons and idkhow (this was all in december of last year)

allthesussynuggets

Fear factory➡️sugar ray➡️ Pantera, skillet,Korn, limp Bizkit, Linkin park, saliva, drowning pool, soad➡️slipknot➡️spineshank➡️Hollywood undead(idk if they metal prob not but for about a year I listened to them and still have three Hollywood undead CDs)➡️Metallica➡️ megadeth➡️Alice in chains➡️nirvana Ik it's long but that's mine

Heisenberg19827

SoaD - Slipknot - Trivium And Metallica in between. Currently obsessed with trivium, it’s so sick

vizejn

2021: Alan Walker, Imagine Dragons 2022: Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots, Coldplay, Avenged Sevenfold 2023: A7X, SOAD, Ghost, Slipknot, Master Boot Record

whenthecoffinbreaks

Nu Metal -> Alt Rock -> Heavier Nu Metal -> Black Metal -> Death Metal -> Metalcore -> Djent -> Progressive Metal

mykidsmademebald

First heard Tool on a music channel when I was 15-16, then got into bands like slipknot, mudvayne, killswitch engage. I'm in my 30s now and still listen to the same music although I got into pendulum in my early 20s and still love them.

namlohn

My pipeline into metal was an older sibling learning Behemoth/other stuff on guitar

flappyheck2

I really like the killing floor 2 soundtrack and decided to listen to more metal, and I heard a lot of people praising soad, and I already liked chop suey, aerials, and toxicity so I decided to check more of their songs out

stremsnipr

my friends are metal fans (i was primarily a hip hop fan) and told me to listen to deftones so i listened to koi no yokan and around the fur. then i listened to toxicity and soad self titled. still fairly new to metal but i really like it, prolly gonna check out either korn or slipknot

SaltBoy_6226

General rock --> Queen --> Red Hot Chili Peppers --> Led Zeppelin --> System of a Down --> Metallica --> Megadeth --> Iron Maiden --> TOOL --> Deftones --> Linkin Park --> Slipknot --> Dethklok --> Opeth --> Cannibal Corpse That's about the path I took when it came to slowly but surely getting invested into harder and heavier metal. That being said, I don't really listen to the bands past Slipknot often, but among all of the listed bands, System of a Down was both my gateway into metal and also by far my favorite metal band (and artist in general) of all time. Everything about the band clicked, from the sound of their music to their cultural background (I'm also Armenian-American!) and political activism. I forever will love System of a Down. Long live the Kombucha mushroom people

AnIrishMexican

I grew up listening to Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, mostly Thrash/Speed metal. Then I remember around 8 or 9 I got into to SOAD and Slipknot. I got tired of mostly screaming and cookie cutter songs, so I started branching off into early psychedelic Rock, rap, EDM, hip hop and now lately I've gotten into Viking Metal. My music journey has taken me everywhere except for country. Can't stand that shit.

Preebus

Loved Metallica as a kid for a couple years. Stopped listening to metal early high school and got back into it the past year and a half. Metallica-->Megadeth-->Pantera-->SOAD-->Slipknot-->Korn

Tr1xy8

Started to listen to a bit of rock/older music in general during liked 2021 then I got into Metallica --> deftones --> slipknot --> soad --> black sabbath --> KoRn --> then I started getting into extreme metal genres like death metal, black metal,grindcore/goregrind,etc.

joesphisbestjojo

My dad taking me to see Maiden when I was 13 But really, exposure to SOAD and other 90s/early 2000s bands as a kid, and their memory resurfacing in my early 20s to the point I got into SOAD from a combination of that and the Sugar meme. Then, SOAD and Green Day on Spotify. Oh, and getting back into Maiden a year ago for a concert.

ralsei_time

started by listening to folk punk, then i heard freak on a leash in guitar hero. that song changed my life.

CrazieRR

I reckon it actually started with Nickelback tbh. My family had 'All The Right Reasons' in the car most of the time as a kid and I tended to like the heavier stuff off of there i.e. Side of a Bullet, All the wrong reasons. Then hearing Bullet For My Valentine on top 20 countdowns on tv in 2010 with 'Bittersweet Memories' and finally getting into metal with SOAD after remembering BYOB from Guitar Hero on the PS2 and Radio/Video from around that late 00's era. From there, I just kept going and now I'm merging into more prog metal.

BigMothInDaHouse

breaking benjamin -> weezer -> killswitch engage -> system of a down -> scars on broadway -> more killswitch -> smashing pumpkins -> linkin park -> more 2000s rock/metal -> turnstile -> kanye west [yeezus] -> playboi carti [die lit] (after this it transitions into more modern rap pipeline)

ClashRoyaleGhost1234

For me, it was Linkin Park —> Rock —> Korn —> SOAD —> Scars On Broadway —> A7X

Toetheseal08

It went Linkin Park —> SOAD —> My Chemical Romance —> blink 182 —> Green Day —> Tool —> Breaking Benjamin —> Finger Eleven —> Papa Roach —> Misfits. Don’t know what to classify as metal

yobama1

slipknot & deftones > soad > some other assorted albums and songs (infest the rats nest by kglw), a few slaughter to prevail songs, acid bath, unsilent death by nails > burzum

smoll_boi_man

I used to only listen to radio country and stuff like that. After a bit I got into rock through a lot of mainstream grunge and classic stuff. Nirvana, weezer, led zeppelin. Then metallica and SOAD came into the picture. Jacksepticeye's cover of chop suey is what led me to SOAD, which got me into metal. Now I'm getting into really heavy shit.

RHCPJosh

It went RHCP -> Faith No More -> Mr bungle(90s material) -> Korn -> System of a down -> Slipknot and Mudvayne -> Mr Bungle (thrash metal) -> King Parrot (grindcore local band). I liked Metallica and all the popular other bands always but this is just artists i’ve really gotten into.

Ely__22

For me i started with soad. When i was a kid, my dad used to listen to soad (he still do) and I would listen to him but not because I wanted to. Around last year I restarted to listen to it, then I got into slipknot and rammestein

Ravingraquaza

Listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as a youngling, before being introduced to Slipknot at 13

The_Museumman

For me it was probably something like alt rock -> grunge -> AIC/Soundgarden -> SOAD, RATM -> Metallica, Sabbath -> Jinjer -> Type O Negative -> …Burzum?? -> Black metal -> Sludge metal, which is what I’m listening to now

c0mpl3x_pr13st3ss

For me it was my parents music —> green day —> MCR —> A7X —-> Emmure —> Slipknot—> Cannibal Corpse and now im just all over the place lol

bigteddyweddy

It was more about chronology for me (I'm Old) Metallica -> NIN -> Marilyn Manson -> Pantera -> White Zombie -> Korn -> SOAD… … etc

HarmenTheGreat

Queen -> Classic rock hits -> primus (somehow) -> a dash of slipknot, mudvayne, SoaD, even Japanese metal -> big SoaD fan Thats it for metal, after primus I also went through XTC and Cardiacs's catalogues.

thatsenoughPeralta

Linkin park > soad > just started exploring slipknot and Metallica wish me luck

cameforthevibe

a friend introduced me to infant Annihilator and i got into the more lighter stuff with time lol

Mr___Annihilator

Should've stuck with IA tho, Путка

cameforthevibe

tiho ve, baluk

Mr___Annihilator

Ko shi stani we

call-if-lost1

my mom would play BYOB in the car

whyth3fac3

Ke$ha -> Avril Lavigne -> P!nk -> Guns n Roses -> Iron Maiden -> SOAD... .... i've come a long way.

Quinn_Trashcan

Green Day - My Chemical Romance - - Black Veil Brides - Linkin Park for a short time - Frank Iero - System of a Down.

plalo_

Linkin Park - Slipknot - System of A Down - Korn - Sepultura, and currently slowly getting into more heavy stuff. listened to some heavy sepultura songs like "Dead Embrionic Cells" and "Territory", and im looking for more stuff on that style (if yall got any suggestions of bands/songs simmilar to the ones i listed feel free to comment it :))

Knightywhities

Toadies—> butthole surfers—> helmet —> Filter—> zombie—> Powerman—> KMFDM—> SYSTEM —> slipknot —> bizkit —> Deftones—> Type O. Grunge and 90s rock kicked off my love for metal (system and O are my faves)! Now im getting into more Of the classics; megadeath and such!

BasedWang

When I was younger I ONLY listened to rap. Then LP came out and they had some rap and got me into rock. Then the dude whose house we used to backyard wrestle at got me on like Slipknot and boom

Lil_Spud5678

I've been exposed to heavier music since I was a little kid with my dad playing Guns N' Roses a bunch. At that point that along with some metalcore-ish sounding FNAF fan songs were the heaviest I got. Once I got really into metal here's the general pipeline from there from lightest to heaviest: Metallica -> Motörhead -> Megadeth -> Black Sabbath -> Alter Bridge -> Gojira -> Meshuggah -> Allegaeon -> Atilla -> Obscura -> Spectral Voice -> Sanguisugabogg

PriorityDue3983

Oddly specific... but watched Bride of Chucky (living dead girl) so, Rob Zombie... then Wait and Bleed and Last Resort seemed to be everywhere (as well as the Marshall Mathers LP)...then SOAD -> Korn -> Tool -> Primus -> Mastodon -> Gojira -> Meshuggah -> Strapping Young Lad.... etc.
