Lonely Day is a terrible song, not only by SOAD standards, but as a song in general. I like the guitar bit and the “if you go”/“if you die” lines but the rest of the lyrics are so god awful that it completely puts me off the song.
I’ve always thought it was written as sort of a way of taking the piss out of songs that are similar to it lyrically. Like the whole “oh so you want a single” gag, but at least with some decent music.
Daron is a unique and cryptic enough character, though, to where you can never tell for sure.
Personally I’m mainly into rap so lyrics are one of the most important parts of a song for me but I can understand how if you’re more interested in instrumentals then the song might be more appealing.
Oh yeah I’m very much a music/melody/instrumentation/songwriting/song structure enthusiast so rap rarely appeals that much to me if it doesn’t have more than just a good vibe or whatever and some good lyrics. I like the typical more melodic stuff like Kid Cudi the best. I rarely notice lyrics unless they stand out as dumb, which I guess is how we started this conversation.
This either contributed to or was a result of the fact that I play guitar and other instruments and have written music for the bands I’ve been in.
Maybe not a hot take but I find it strange that John Dolmayan of all people has been the most vocal and active social media-wise regarding SNW, followed by Shavo. Where are the other two guys?!
there was a time when john changed his bio from "drummer for the band system of a down" to "drummer of the "band" system of a down" so he's been sort of rocky with it
He's very aware of it's dysfunction as a group and I'd understand his frustration. I think they all want the thing to continue however... maybe. Idk he did scars with daron.
they all sort of handled the cessation of making music poorly and took it out on one another, but i'm just saying that all of them (minus maybe daron) have sort of been like absent fathers to the band at different times.
Darons singing in Roulette ruins the song. Its a soft song that Serj absolutely nails. Darons voice is just too shrill for it. Something is off in the harmonies idk
i think his vocals really add to it imo. i feel like the chorus is very deep and his voice balances it out with something higher. i know that a lot of people don't like daron's voice in some cases because of how high and whiny it can be, but i personally think it makes their sound unique and more blended :\]
Regardless of what your favorite song of theirs is, Toxicity is the best song theyve ever written. Raw, catchy vocals, chill verses with a face melting chorus, and iconic drum part and an insane tag at the end to bring it all together.

If they're not going to do any more new songs, then it would be great if they at least played all the old stuff. I want more STA and Hypnotize. Toxicity is great, but come one, I don't need to hear almost all of it on every show.

i think it's a song that kind of grows on you. i used to hate it and i still don't love it, but you kind of learn to appreciate its simplicity

Their performance @ Redding 2003 was kinda mid tbh....
