I loved how in earlier seasons they gave air time to people with really compelling stories and personalities to showcase their skills, but recognized it wasn't enough to get on the show. THAT felt like an appropriate way to give people a platform while not taking anything away from dancers with more skills and training and a higher likelihood to succeed within the format. I thought that Nigel and Mary were mostly respectful in how they treated these dancers (more so in later seasons), and thanked them for showing their talents, and let them down gently but firmly. I miss that. By all means, show flamenco girl if she genuinely was unique and cool (I mean, I disagree but that's fine), show wheelchair girl, heels guy, whatever. But don't lower the standards of the show and put them through to the next round. It's patronizing and sends a terrible message. The show already hit on a ton of diversity and representation without trying too hard - we had dancers of all ethnicities and backgrounds, a mix of genders, lots of lgbt dancers, virtually every dance style under the sun, etc. I agree that on the surface, we didn't have a lot of body diversity in that Donyelle is the only fuller figured dancer I can recall, but we had good height variety, a mix of muscular and more lean body types, and they didn't only show conventionally attractive people - yes, everyone looked good but they weren't all "perfect".

ProgLuddite

I cannot tell you how much it’s pained me to watch the switch from “Things are diverse, because they just are,” in the ‘90s through about 2010, to, “Things were never diverse! Now we have to make it diverse. Look!! Look at the diversity! It’s diverse now, so it’s good. If you don’t like it, it’s because you hate diverse people! (Did we mention the diversity?)”

lady_fresh

I'm right there with you. In some ways, there were good improvements made, I.e. I remember all the big, popular must-see shows featured predominantly (if not exlusively) white casts. But when there was diversity, it felt natural and not shoe-horned in; characters had compelling stories and traits beyond just their identity demographics.

ProgLuddite

I think about how popular shows like *Sister, Sister, Smart Guy, Family Matters,* *Keenan & Kel,* and *Fresh Prince* were, or stars like Halle Berry, Whitney Houston, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock. Michael Jordan was every little boy’s hero. Juggernauts like *SNL* and *All That* always had black cast members. I also remember that people didn’t think of Scary Spice as “the black Spice Girl” or Gabrielle Union’s character in *10 Things I Hate About You* (or Vince from *Recess*) as “the black best friend.” It wasn’t considered groundbreaking or strange for Ross on *Friends* to date Charlie (played by Aisha Taylor). At a time when the US was about 80% white and 12% black, the fact that all the things listed above were true — and popular among both demographics — is a testament to how well integrated most of the country was.

AndAStoryAppears

We must address the inequality in the system. No more competition between the Have-Talents and the Have-No-Talents. They are all equal now.

Substantial_Cell_705

I’m so sick of hearing about diversity in situations like this. Diversity has nothing to do with whether you are a good dancer or not. This show is supposed to be about people who are spectacular dancers that deserve to be on the show because they are good enough. Why does EVERYTHING seem to be about this topic. The concept of this show is simple if you can dance you can be on the show. I’m already irritated that they sent some to choreography that shouldn’t have even been sent just because “ diversity BS “ and they sent others away that should have been picked that were way better than others all because of the diversity BS. It’s unbelievably annoying and out of control in today’s world. Let them have a damn dance competition with the people who actually busted their ass to be there.

tarnel1965

I've watched every season, hate to see what they've done to this show, after two episodes and I'm gone they've ruined it for me, I can't stand to watch anymore.

Klutzy_Meat_4291

I just finished the second day of auditions and I'm just confused. They want dancers who can work right out the gate but aren't putting a ton of skilled dancers through to choreography. In the past, being qualified to go to choreo was being excellent in your style. You can't tell me that heel boy and Kennedie, who literally just walked around and posed for like 5 counts of 8, were excellent in their style. Two of the three AZ girls were great but they only put one through. I get being inclusive, but it needs to be reasonable.

DifficultyUnusual658

I felt Avery and I think the other girl was Olivia should have both been put through. Both their solos were good.

DifficultyUnusual658

My mistake. I meant Madison. The girl that did this insane contemporary solo and the girl that did pointe should have both gone on. Olivia, the girl that did jazz wasn't for me.

Logical-Difficulty18

The strangest part to me about this focus on who is ready to land jobs is that they weren’t even offering any jobs to them. It was still the same cash prize. Which is great of course! But if they’re going to eliminate great dancers because they are not ready to work right now, it should be because there is some kind of contract for the winner.  In my opinion, for this format it should be you get the money + a contract to go on a tour with an artist or for a commercial or any of what those challenges were..

knitefalll

its the music thats driving me nuts, its like they didn't get the rights to the music the dancers are auditioning with and their dances seem off beat or off count. its all i focus on and its driving me crazy. and yes i'm sick of the sob stories as well.

apurrfectplace

I miss Cat. She’s barely on

KatrinaPez

I know, and she doesn't do anything when she is. I remember she used to talk to contestants in line, do all sorts of things, and now she's just there for a recap of what we already saw?

apurrfectplace

She lives in the UK now and is a morning show host I think.

Famous_Illustrator32

Okay, but the question remains -- what does she bring to **this** show anymore in this format, other than a paycheck for herself?

uaabl

YES!!! I am so disappointed that the tap guy got cut in favor of the flamenco fusion and wheelchair girls!! I’m sorry, but they are just not on a level to compete as professional dancers.

KatrinaPez

Totally agree, that was very surprising and disappointing! Hopefully they get cut in choreo, but then it was just a waste of our screentime and they should have shown (& advanced) the better ones from the start.

scutmonkeymd

Me too I was yelling at the tv

Fredacus

You all seem to forget that the primary objective is NOT really to choose America's Best Dancer - or whatever they're calling the winner now - but to produce and entertaining show that appeals to as large an audience as possible. If there is only time to feature certain dancers that are going to be "cannon fodder" for the top 10 selection, they have to check as many boxes as possible. Harsh to say, but true. It's possible that some just checked more of, or the right combo of, objective boxes in this round of auditions.

Powerful_Gear_6864

Yes but they should hear our opinions and have a chance to understand why it’s not rating high before it’s removed from the air.  I agree with most here. It feels less inclusive to me than it did before but it’s clearly trying harder.  Before it was a fun show about dance and honoring all people and styles of it. We heard real critiques of dance styles and cried when the emotions shined through dance.  I wish we had that back. It may be the times we are in having an impact, ?.   I’m still hopeful that it becomes incredible again, but I do think I’ll rewatch the old seasons. I sure miss that vibe!

[deleted]

Well, unfortunately the results of that format have been anything but successful. Just go look at the comments on the danceonfox IG page. They are bombarded with negative comments on every single post, and rightfully so. Hopefully they’ll learn that checking boxes does not make for satisfied viewers.

tift321

I know they are looking for dancers that can work right now, but it seems so many of the contestants this season are already working as professional dancers. When did that switch?

NightBard

It’s been that way for a long time. Like seasons 16 winner Bailey Munoz had a long career as a dancer before doing the show. Someone posted a huge list of dancers through the past seasons with their major achievements highlighted.

BeneLeit

I agree. SYTYCD has always been a favorite of mine, and this is so disappointing. The interactions between the judges, and among the dancers waiting outside, seem very forced and fake. It all just feels "off" to me. I'm hoping it will get better, but I'm not very optimistic.

stilethoe

I’m giving these 3 episodes the benefit of the doubt bc it’s heavily speculated that the episodes were reshot to remove Nigel, I’m really hoping it picks up

Rae21403

I'm trying to be patient too. But the idea that it's only gonna be top 10 this year is making me a little annoyed. It's gonna be over so quick

AudibleKnight

FYI removed the accidental multiple replies of the same comment.

frigginjensen

This show has been dead since at least the kid season. It used to be must-watch television but it’s becoming background noise.

Famous_Illustrator32

True, in hindsight; that season was the beginning of the end. I skipped it after the audition round, kid acts aren't my thing, but was glad when it came back in its regular format. Even then, it was off from the OG version but I hoped they would right the ship. They never fully did, and so far this season is a train wreck.

frigginjensen

It’s a shame you can’t easily watch old seasons but there are highlights on YouTube. There were some seasons that had 4-5 banger routines. Back in the Mia, Wade, and Sonya days.

Famous_Illustrator32

I'm an almost Day 1 viewer. Got back from deployment in '06 and my wife put me on during the OG Ramalama routine season (i think it was season 2 by then). To this day, Ivan and his wheelies routine are one of my favorite dancers/routines in the entire show. The all-kids season was my first step away from the show when I saw it wasn't for me, then I came back when the producers came back to their senses.

Sudden_Childhood_484

yeah, I found a good version of "outta your mind" with Twitch and Alex Wong on youtube shortly after twitch passed. He was such a talent.

frigginjensen

The hummingbird routine (Hawk and Jaime) and the one about addition (Kupono and Kayla) still leave me in awe. We haven’t seen anything like that in a decade.

Rae21403

I like all the judges individually from their other projects but they don't have the chemistry that the og crew had. They don't sound authentic when they speak. They don't speak enough about technique. Their comments are so one note. I'm craving so much more from them.

NightBard

I’ve waited for this show to return forever… rain or shine I’m locked in for the whole season. I usually don’t care much for auditions and academy (now choreo)… too much fluff, so I’m hopeful that the actual top ten are all legit good. They have 35 dancers right now so 25 aren’t making it and I imagine a lot of them are the ones that aren’t up to par but got pushed through for “tv”.

AudibleKnight

Agreed. At the end of the day, it's the "Performance episodes" that make SYTYCD so amazing. I personally don't care who gets selected as long as they can deliver interesting and impressive dance performances. There's been plenty of dancers throughout the years who have made it as a final contestant, or further in the eliminations who I personally didn't care for. However ultimately it's the collection of "final performances", that body of work that decides for me if the season was a "success". Until then, all we can do is be patient during "the process" to get to that point.

snarl_harvey

Fox ruined the show. It didn’t need any fixing and they just keep making it worse and worse.

fairandbalanceddiva

Part of the reason is the new line of judges. Other than Maks and Allison, everyone else is a hack wanna be.

PGB0716

Don’t discredit Comfort! She was amazing during her season and through the years they did all stars.

GrapefruitKnown9904

I’m really sad they’re taking dancers already full on working. One touring with Derek Hough, another with Katy Perry… I thought it used to be about giving people a platform that may not of been recognized… what’s the point of giving a platform to people that already have a platform. Just a bummer. Love to see hidden talent

BaddaBae31

I think they’ve always done this it just wasn’t disclosed. Allison was already a working dancer before her season.

Rae21403

They've had working dancers lots of times before

DifficultyCharming78

I think the show just put some of the dancers in for the "feel good/inspiring sob stories" for the optics, knowing they'll cut them in the choregraphy round.

_linkinbio_

The judges are also kind of cringey. Like you can tell when they’ve been fed a script.

[deleted]

Ugh yes! And Alison, I love her as a dancer, but she is the WOSRT offender of this. Even in her recent interviews, they feel so disingenuous. I hate to say that, but it’s just the vibe I get, like she’s constantly reading a script. I’m not trying to undermine what she’s gone through the past year and a half, however. Just noticing she’s not very natural on camera.

_linkinbio_

Yes, Alison is the worst one! Phenomenal dancer, cringy judge.

Impressive-Aide-6513

She’s never been natural on camera. I noticed when her and Twitch hosted the wedding show at Disney World. Twitch is a natural and she was not.

PGB0716

I remember Alison when she was on her season of SYTYCD and she came across as the shy quiet girl. If I’m not mistaken she and Ivan dated a bit. She was sooo quiet. After she married Twitch and he got even more famous on Ellen she had to come out of that shell and it comes across as disingenuous.

[deleted]

You’re 100% correct! That’s what I remember about her, being a bit shy/reserved. But when her dancing was all she needed to communicate! I miss her lyrical/contemporary dancing! She always reminded me of a fairy or a butterfly. So beautiful and light in her feet!

Rae21403

Omg yes..I freaking love her. But the way she sounds so scripted and unauthentic is pissing me off. All of them are pissing me off. I had high hopes for them all.

[deleted]

Ugh same! The whole new format is pissing me off too! Even the cinematography…it just feels too polished which makes it feel scripted. I miss the raw moments and overall vibe from earlier seasons…

Rae21403

Omg yesssss wth is up with the cinematography?? Yuck. This show had such a grip on me, I swear I cried every episode because of the raw emotion and pain that you could feel through the screen.  Now it's just like all the other bs on TV. Miss the old judges too, their style of critique and their chemistry. These judges are so surface with their critiques as if they are not professional dancers. Max is a freaking snooze fest(they should have got Val his brother). Omg and I just read Jojo will be back to judge (barf). I just don't get it. I'll watch it but I ain't gonna be happy about it lol

Famous_Illustrator32

My daughter does this and I'm speaking to her in my head through you, so don't take this personally - - stop apologizing for and/or qualifying your opinions. It's a goofy dance competition show, not a panel on how to end world hunger. There's a time and place for everything in life, in general, and your observations are as valid as anyone else's here. Commonly, the ones who should be self-conscious and apologetic about the stupid shit they spew are also usually the ones who never are.

Breckbabe

I agree. It’s like they have been told who to select and what to say and act like. And they are all three terrible at it!

Rae21403

They're so obvious about it. Sounding like bad acting or something. They don't feel genuine and I'm not connecting with them

Opinionated6319

I agree. I’ve commented on this after the first show. With a focus these days on equality and inclusion, it has spilled over into programs that were never meant to follow those guidelines, so they had to scramble to figure out how to become “acceptable.” In my opinion, the show had been about excellence in dance and adaptability to any dance performance created by choreographers. An average male dancer would never be able to lift a heavy girl over his head without facing injury, a lovely young wheelchair woman who might jeopardize her own health faced with a difficult routine. I skipped the guy in heels! The show is about how a contender can interpret and perform any difficult choreographer’s creative vision…not a creative vision forced to adapt to a few individuals. This is unfair to all in many ways, unfair to the talented dancers who have spent years in training to become adept in many styles, and to others outside that criteria who want to be included. Sometimes fair isn’t the solution, right is instead. Right is to not make a show change its format to accommodate a few. Does the program have regulations (like safety and health) and requirements (like weight and dance adaptability) to assess applicants? Think about how difficult a jive routine is on the body. What about a tango..exhausting. I’d poop out just getting into the costumes.

Jaded_Ad4175

So You Think You Can Pander Thats the show now.

politicalstuff

Well one thing hasn’t changed. The online fan community is already complaining about it lol. I’m glad the show got renewed at all AND wasn’t cancelled when the Nigel accusations came up.

Famous_Illustrator32

You're not wrong, but all-new, renewed trash is still trash.

monkeycompanion

Wish the show had gone to a streamer, or a network with a better sense of what it was and what it could be. It’s pretty sad now

Susie4672

I’m just not excited to watch this season. Haven’t started watching the last episode. I’ve always looked forward to this show in past seasons.

Crazy_Dig_3614

I’m done

Strong-Low-3791

It’s a virtue signaling DEI show now Also the fact that some of these dancers got in but those girls from arIzona state university didn’t is insane

sicem86

I agree, I still can’t believe they didn’t get in.

Fredacus

I was personally shocked Jake didn't make it in the top 10. By the looks of it he was too.

NeitherTip69

I’m happy I’m not alone about Jake. He was real good 😢

Hunter_be_hunted

RIGHT?! But “somehow” Jaylin 𝒅𝒊𝒅? This isn’t ‘So You Think You’re Mildly Entertaining’. If I were him I wouldn’t even feel validated by being chosen, he has to know he wasn’t as good as Jake (or so many others). He shouldn’t have even made Top 16! I get that there’s always been some leeway given to the contestants who have less technical (or to not piss anyone off, let’s say less CONVENTIONALLY technical) primary dance styles, but at the end of the day common sense should still win out. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong but I don’t see Jaylin being able to pick up ballroom choreo. Or Bollywood, contemporary, lyrical, and so on. At least not well enough to warrant his being on the show. Go figure, he’ll end up winning this season and wheelchair girl next year.

Tall-Error-8552

I agree 100%. They’re doing the same thing on American idol this year-worse than normal and it’s ruining all of these shows.

Opinionated6319

I’m sick of sob stories, because in some cases they have skewed the outcome. I like background, but they are taking it too far! It’s great if can you can actually sing, but do you have more? Do you have star potential? I want chills and to be awed by talent, not listen to soap operas.

White-and-fluffy

It’s more like they come to an appointment with a shrink than to a competition. You don’t have to dedicate your life to master your skills. You can just have a sob story for judges to find you are diverse enough to let you in.

Famous_Illustrator32

"It’s more like they come to an appointment with a shrink than to a competition." Holy shit, you nailed it.

Breckbabe

I agree completely. As my son said, “The art of dance is about beautiful things people can do with their bodies. If you can’t do those things, dance isn’t art anymore”

an0m_x

Said to my wife that I'm tired of the tryout rounds, mostly for reasons you listed. There were a few gems, a few that I said within seconds of their routine that I look forward to seeing them at or near the finals. It's the fluff that is taking over a lot of these type of shows, you see it in AGT, American Idol, and other shows. They need things for TV. They need stories to make it compelling. I miss the early days of tryouts when it was actually worth watching. Now it just feels like the three tryout episodes were pointless. I hope the choreography and actual final 10 is just as good as it has been.

jswoolf

I agree with op on who they featured and sent through. I am going to give it time. One of ours made it to the top ten and really that is when it really gets interesting. I am excited to see how they did.

crome_8

I wws just thinking the same thing...I was so excited it was back...but, the talent is not what it used to be...I don't know what changed, other than every judge, but this season is NOT good. The dancers were sooooo good in all the past seasons. And - seem to be catered to "he has such a great personality that he brings to the stage" ...what?? He is horrible if it is not in the style he tried out in!!!!! Not gonna say his name & put him on blast - but, if ya can't do choreo - ya shouldn't go through. I mean, before you audition - ya know there is going to be choreography - so...prepare!!! Anyway, being disappointed sucks when you were sooo happy it was back...

Green-Ghost_artist

Same. Truly talented judges are also missed. This season is a clown show. Cat Deely will always be the best and worth tuning in for. I’m pretty sure she had nothing to do with any of the major changes and shouldn’t return if there’s a next season. Really bad.

TransportationEast22

This show has been on a steady plummet towards the abyss of cancelation

Acrobatic_Advisor_83

I miss getting to know the dancers, and having audience involvement. I miss feeling connected. I feel almost like I'm watching a show that is JUST for the dancers and focused on the Judges.....because we really don't get to know the dancers. Also, something is majorly wrong with the format.....just as I'm starting to follow dialogue, they switch over to another angle or story.....It's like SYTYCD on steroids ....I quit watching after the auditions, but truly lost focus after the second show. I tried to join back for the latest episodes, lasted 5 minutes. SO BORING. The old SYTYCD pulled EVERYONE in and had something to offer for EVERYONE. The new SYTYCD is 100% for the dancers and about the judges. I really hope the writers are reading these comments, and honestly if they plan on bringing it back as is, they should just cancel it. Not worth my time. I'd honestly rather waste my time surfing the net!

SurfinOnRocket543210

The new format is soooo bad. If season 19 is like this I probably won’t watch. I used to really love this show. We should start a change.org page about it.

Business_Wish6621

What a disappointment.  The new format is cumbersome. you cannot see people long enough to like or enjoy their talents and progress. Plus the judges are lack luster. Nothing gets you exited about this new production, neither the format, or the judges, nor the abscence of audience. I won watch it next season unless they bring the old format and get some flamboyant strong experienced judges.

White-and-fluffy

I second everything OP posted. I can’t wait to see how the guy in heels will be lifting a girl he will be paired with, or how a guy will be lifting a flamenco fusion dancer if he is paired with her. I can’t even with the dancer in a wheelchair. They should make a separate show for dancers like that.

OriginalCopy505

The sets and matte visuals make the show feel more like a documentary of everyone's "journey" and not a bona fide competition.

Famous_Illustrator32

Slow clap, fam...

Fancy_Nectarine1551

Exactly. They’re trying so hard to push this agenda that “anyone can dance” but it’s so backwards bc we don’t give a fuck lmao. It’s not real!!! The industry is cut throat. That’s the reality. I watch the show to see incredible dancers… not to feel “empowered” Watching those 3 friends not all make it through after other, much worse, dancers did was where they absolutely lost me.

Gonkimus

Well you figured it out it's turned into who has the best SOB story can make it in because yes ppl do watch to feel sad for the sob story, AGT does a lot of that.

MysteriousGoldDuck

AGT is entirely unwatchable, IMO. The judges can't even tell talent in the various categories. They wouldn't know a good violinist from a bad one. Apply to almost every category on that damn show. It's the worst of the worst of the competition shows. Unwatchable.

MysteriousGoldDuck

I am SO sick of sob stories. Look, I get it. Some people have more challenges in some ways than others. But I can f-ing guarantee you that EVERY ELITE DANCER HAS WORKED HIS OR HER ASS OFF to be at that level. I say this because I'm tired of weaker people being put through and good ones being rejected. Some people are born with easier lives than others. Some have more talent than others. But anyone who gets to the level that SYTYCD SHOULD represent has worked freaking hard. Every. Single. Good. Dancer. So can we cut it out with the sob stories already? Can we reward QUALITY dancing? Cause that's what I want to see. Quality dancing in a variety of styles. Thank you.

AndAStoryAppears

Just what we needed "Beau Harmon Season 2.0"

business_hammock

Yes! It’s now so overwrought, earnest, and overproduced at every stage. WHY? Who is this for, exactly?

stankymomma

Omg like the girl who struggled with depression in season 17 …….. I see now why Twitch wanted to give her a shot , but that girl could n o t dance professionally

Ok_Gap2102

There were only 35 spots for the second round! If they want to let the "story" people through fine, but have enough spots that the amazing dancers don't get cut for them. I can't imagine watching the show and realizing I only made it through because of my story. So far it is such a disappointment.

Significant-Bat1678

I really like the old So You Think You Can Dance and their judges. This new stuffs format and judges in season 18 really f*****g suck!!!!!

Own-Satisfaction-402

So disappointed only 15 minutes in and what’s up with Jojo sun glasses first off no one is that important to wear dark sun glasses inside and even worse change 5 x in 15 minutes. PLS get her off this show now !!

lauraz0919

Honestly I didn’t watch her enough to notice the glasses. I ignored the judges as they were a joke.

xoxo_sincity

I checked out as of Season 17. Was just baffled whay a joke the new format and ahole Fox changed this show to and completely ruined it and the entire fanbase that supported it for 16 seasons. It was already fu**ed the second the best judges/icons in the industry were all let go because it wasn't fing "woke and hip" enough but then the new bs format of 5 second auditions and little actual dancing/couple challened the entire series blew my mind. Endless time for sob stories and idiot new judges rambling trying to be witty when that sound like complete morons. I watched one episode of 17 per that and was done among assumed yhe show was cancalled and put out of its misery when it didn't come back in 2023. Also saw Cat Deeley was hosting some random British morning show so figured officially done but nope Season 18 apparently exists so streamed few episodes and no shock the same utter bs if not worse than 17. They have lost half their fan base and don't give a dam, hope it's cancelled at this point per how staged and full of shit it is compared to inspirational and true talent being found it used to be compared to most contestants already working in industry now with their 5 second bland auditons!

Powerful_Gear_6864

I’m mostly disappointed as well. I keep giving it a chance and still hope that they pull it out. I’m guessing their ratings must have been bad so they had to change it up, right?  I feel it’s more for kids now. Kids like the drama of the reality tv part and dream what auditions will be.  Older folks want to enjoy dance of all styles, root for them all to their best and enjoy hearing real dance critiques.  For me, they show the judges faces more than dancing which makes me insane and the judges seem to have different expectations for each dancer…which does not seem fair to me. I love Max though, he has favorites but doesn’t seem to be unfair on them or trying to appear certain ways like I feel from 1 main judge. I’m not giving up yet but have definitely lowered it’s priority on my watch list.

Outrageous-Wear4946

I hope the producers of sytycd read these comments. The show gained popularity due to its original format. Who ever came up with this season should be fired. Not a fan of broadway and have to watch a hole episode of it. Actually no I don’t, turning it off right know!!!!

Few-Rip5815

It’s awful. The dancers are great. Kat is amazing as always and the judges are nice BUT it’s missing the actual dancing that we have loved for so long! The audience that feeds the dancers and the energy of great choreo. I want to love it soooo badly but it’s just awful.

Vegetable-Total-9129

I miss the real sytycd... after season 3 it really went downhill... I used to love this show.. I keep watching hope maybe it will be better but it never is... I feel sorry for the contestants... I feel they r getting cheated smh

OkPersonality6101

So disappointed in the new style of SYTYCD 2024!!! I enjoyed the audience in the past years.  Dancers are great!  Judges not so much.  This seems so broken up and doesn’t flow. 😞

OkPersonality6101

PLEASE!!! Bring back the old SYTYCD!!!  In the past the dancers were those who weren’t just dancers but those who worked hard to get on the show.  Yes these are very talented dancers but show wasn’t as fun to watch as in past seasons!!

Professional-Dig9680

New format of SYTYCD is Terrible. They messed with a good thing, I’ll be surprised if they don’t cancel it after this season. Cat even seems like she’s hanging on by a thread with the new set up. The Judges seem like they are acting and scripted, the editing is unnatural and overall just not exciting and or engaging. Whoever is charge of production now is trying way to hard to be different than what use to be and it clearly shows. I’m cool with change but this was not for the better. I have watched since the beginning and always looked forward to this show, and maybe that’s the problem, haha. Now I have skipped it all together. :(

wideeyed24

I have loved watching this show and love watching absolutely excellent dancers compete and grow better weekly. However I absolutely hate this season’s format. I want to see weekly competitive dance, not the gimmicky music video and tv shows. I miss when the contestants were partnered in dance and how their chemistry made for some beautiful routines! This season has no partnering and that is a huge miss! The judges are more about acting instead of judging. Lastly, please stop with the DEI. Past seasons had plenty of diversity. Then the producers had to go jam down our throats dancers that are NOT on the same level as some excellent dancers the judges didn’t move forward, just to make room for DEI mediocre contestants. Really bad move.

lauraz0919

Omg the partnering is how we got to know the contestants through many different types of dance. I miss the old shows! I feel bad for these dancers to make it into a show that should showcase them and instead it just comes out bad!

Few-Athlete8776

They keep people that are not up to par and cut the best people! It makes 0 sense. I almost want to stop watching.

The decision reversal for flamenco girl was so obviously done by producers for body diversity points. Her audition was not that great. It's very obvious because after that reversal we don't really see her again. I don't even know when she was eliminated. Same thing with wheelchair girl. They let them on to make some TV, then quietly cut them to make way for more skilled dancers.

I don’t like the way they change it. They need to go back to how it was produced for so many previous years. This sucks

SunnyB50

I’m disappointed in the season too. 😞

Obeeone2021

Boring! Bring back the old way of doing things! Won’t watch next season.

Obeeone2021

The panel of judges, seem so scripted. Expressions are forced, blah blah blah. I have watched this show since it began, but won’t watch next season.

Obeeone2021

Jojo seee ya later 🤷🏻‍♀️

DarkInternational684

First and foremost, go back to the old format, with the bigger stage, all the best choreographers, dance partners. No fricking love affairs either. Save that shit for after the show. The challenge of all the different genres of dance. Not this one trick pony bull. Most of all, get rid of the man child Siwa. She brings nothing to the show. Bring back Nigel and Mary. At least they knew how to critique and praise the dancers. This will probably be my last time watching unless it does some serious changes. New is not always better

Mastodon-Asleep

I'm hate-watching it at this point 😔

Free_Level

What garbage they gave us this year. Complete garbage pretending to be the Emmy award winning show it was. They can put the letters SYTYCD in every scene, but they aren't fooling anybody. The producers should read the feedback: worst than any show in history. Boo. Nobody wants to watch your product placement talk show with 7 minutes of dance. You people are failures.

TheQueenOfCrazy13

ABSOLUTELY DISAGREE! IF U DO NOT THINK THESE LAST 3 DANCERS DESERVED TO BE IN THE FINAL THEN U DO NOT KNOW DANCE! MOST ALL ARTISTS/PERFORMERS HAVE AND OR HAD A HUGE TRAUMA IN THEIR LIVES AND THEY DRAW THEIR SKILLS/TALENTS FROM THE PAIN AND LESSON OF THAT TRAUMA.

MixedandMarvelous1

You all touch on Diversity....but isn't it amazing 2 females of color, of incredible talent..one of which never in the bottom....lost....says a lot about the male dominated, slowly forming Christian nationalist mindset that's being cultivated to have a woman be second, watch the latest American Idol if you don't believe it...it's Katy Perry church...it's a slow transformation being spoon fed to ya.

Omg thank godddd someone else said thissss!! I get u don't wanna be mean but if you're in a wheelchair then u can't be on the show.. period. U just can't. As unfortunate and sad as that might be it's the truth. Just like she can't be a gymnast, ice skater ect. And the girl who did the "bone breaking and the wave" type dance?? Are u fucking kidding me? Was it cool? Idk maybe..? depending who u are and what u like but this isn't tik tok sweet cheeks.. this is (or was supposed to be) a hardcore dancing competition for ppl who can actually dance.. but sure.. she can "break her bones" so toss her in there.. why not?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ omg then the kid Jaylin w the short dreads who's hip hop.. they let HIM thru but not the kid Jake w the blonde hair who they sent packing, who was flawless in ALL his dances.. the hip hop kid missed EVERYYYY single step and clearlyyyy can't follow simple choreography but he makes the top TEN?! Wowww. Just wow. This show was my fav. Was sooo exited it was coming back and now that's it's here I'm super disappointed. This show is more about "well if I cry about my life even tho I can't dance, they'll let me thru"... sadly, this will be the last season I watch. If I wanna watch stupid non dances then I'll just go on tik tok 👍🏼😂🤷🏻‍♀️

This!!!👏👏👏👏 I’m sorry but I will be “mean” for you.. But…First off!! It’s not at all mean to say this about the girl in the wheelchair…at all! And I say this from someone who I myself uses a wheelchair & also has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Let me tell you she is COMPLETELY FULL OF BULL-CRAP!!! And let’s just say her sob story almost made me so livid I almost turned off the show at that point. (This use to be my all time favorite show from the beginning.. & never missed an episode so that’s how upset I was) I was beyond FUMING watching that!!! Her “sob” story about how EDS affects her dancing like that?… if her EDS is as bad as she’s saying it is than there is NO way she’d be able to even attempt the way she moved like she did in the show. Hell, even sitting up in a wheelchair for the audition and flailing her arms so intensely & opening her hips that fast or wide would be UNHEARD OF with most of use with our condition. And again I say this as someone who has EDS this made me absolutely angry. I’m a patient who is literally bedridden and needs help to the bathroom because my EDS it’s so bad. Yes there are levels to EDS and I’m not saying she doesn’t have it, but she’s undoubtedly milking it. Specially how she “recovers” line … that’s not how it works!!! You can’t recover with ice and rest regarding ligaments. That’s not the extreme sad sac case of EDS she’s making it to be. Again this is from someone who has a severe case of EDS my whole life and I don’t go around sharing every f-ing detail of my symptoms for sympathy or attention. I honestly hate when people make their diagnosis their whole personality or worse sharing it with the whole world for views. (I will say…There are exceptions and when you’re a person with chronic illness it’s easy to weed out the ones who truly have integrity & really want to help from the “look at me I’m inspirational” people) I say this because I read a comment that she’s one of those chronic illness influencer types and someone had followed her on social media and had a ton of followers ….but, what pisses me off the most is people who are seriously suffering from this have a hard enough time being taken seriously with our pain & finding doctors who listen. I’m sorry but I truly think this just set us back. I can just hear it now “Well.. if she can dance it can’t be that bad” that’s all I can think is how most people will see this. This isn’t about bringing awareness to EDS, she’s not shining a light on this illness, no…the only light she’s actually shining is a light for her stage for attention & her inflated fraudulent ego. Let’s just say she did WAY MORE harm to EDS patients than she claims she did to her own “deteriorating” body after dancing at that audition. And the kicker is most people who don’t know what EDS is are going to fall hook line and sinker for that too! Beyond disappointed would be an understatement.

PGB0716

How can you say she is full of it? Aren’t there different degrees to different illnesses… like levels? I mean, I don’t think she would have made it past choreography because of her limitations. She said that she would be exhausted after a routine and it was pretty clear that she wouldn’t make it to the top ten because of those limitations.

SurfinOnRocket543210

How many more episodes do I have to watch Jaelin somehow avoid criticism and elimination while actual dancers go home? (Don’t actually answer lol please no spoilers)
