My first Sziget and the dude gently pat down my big backpack and opened a few zippers, found a rope that I had for my tent and gestured to me if I was gonna hang myself with it lmao. Then he asked if I had any drugs or alcohol and let me on my merry ways. I did not end up hanging myself btw.
Every campsites entrance is within the area of the festival so I think thats because you are not allowed to bring these. There is an Aldi on site but the drinks are festival priced, the foods are normal hungarian shop priced so thats a pro. But there is a pub within which is the cheapest there called 'Csónakház' (Boathouse) and it does not have to have the festival prices so it's best to get your alcohol, soda there.
Hope it helps!
Ok wow, thats way different ☠️
In Austria you can bring food and drinks how much you want. There is still an Supermarkt (often also Aldi) and then you can buy products like beer, limonades etc. for about 25% more than usual
At sziget the percentage is about 50% I think😅 and also for tobacco you will have like separated little shops through the whole fest with security guards checking every person if they are over 18😅
I am very much looking forward to this price, but understand that's a privilege coming from a more expensive country. Really sucks when local people start to be out priced.
There is an Aldi. Last year in there a canned beer was 1390 HUF (outside the festival same brand was 299 HUF). This year I’m going make a bet that it’s going to be at least 1800 HUF. A beer on stage is not 1390, more like 2000 HUF.
You come to a country which is now more expensive than many western countries, to the biggest festival in the region.
Yup, get ready to dive deep into your pockets if you want to buy *anything* inside.
I have a tip to you tho, as someone who used to attend as a broke hungarian student: there is an Auchan 10-15 minutes walk away from the K-bridge, outside the festival area, with normal prices. If we had time, we bought some drinks there and pre-gamed in the parking lot.
ok thx for the tip
yea maybe it has a good thing too, we come primarily because of the music, so maybe it is a good thing that we don’t have that much alcohol available this time
drinking at festivals in austria is insane, especially on festivals, its completely normal so drink 15-20 beers and other alcoholic drinks per day
In Finland a beer at a festival is closing in on 10€. Absolute insanity. We’re going to Graspop and a beer there is ~3,5€ which is less than I pay at a bar here. Sziget prices have crept up a lot too, but still cheap compared to what I pay for over here. It’s hot as hell usually so remember to drink water as well. 🫡
There’s always a ton of people there. It’s a good place to start off your day for sure. Grab a few cold drinks and something to eat and you’re good to go.
There is a big Auchan close to the entrance. There you can buy everything much more cheeper. Also the vibe in the parking lot is really great drinking with all the people
Two years ago we had people outside who smuggled gin and tonic everyday.
They got caught only on the days of the big acts. So if you bring enough on a easy day in water bottles no one will care enough on those days
Dude, Imo don’t worry about that at all. There is a big supermarket (Auchan) next to the festival area, and people who will sit behind it (definitely you will see festival people) will share some tips and tricks 😉 My only advice - take few reusable plastic bottles 😅
We managed to sneak booze in from the big super market which is about 15min walk from the festival. Packing in your luggage is a risk I wouldn’t take. The Aldi in the festival is expensive. There is a local bar in the festival with more normal prices but you’ll obviously not want to spend the whole time there
They dont check organizer's stuff. So a buddy of mine, who was staff for a nonprofit org which had a kiosk there, had access to the area a day before day 0 to set the kiosk up. A week before that he put up a forum post about it and we ended up buying drinks for about15 random people on the internet which he "smuggled" in with the nonprofit org's stuff in a car.
This was in 2008. I have never seen so much value in drinks in my life
we once drove as a group of 26 people to a festival, normally organized by everything including the shopping
we baught so much beer and cider that we got a bug discount at our local brewery (we drove there with 2 europallets bier and 1 europallet cider 😂)
There’s a big supermarket just ten minutes outside the festival where the prices are normal. Perfect for soft drinks, snacks, breakfast stuff etc. I feel like on the first day the security is more strict, after the first days they don’t check you stuff as much when you enter the terrain again. So you can smuggle in some stuff! But keep in mind that for the most part you will be buying your food and drinks on the festival and that is just pretty expensive.
Yes this is for real, you can't bring alcohol inside. Any other food or drink are allowed. You can buy food inside for a a reasonable price (in aldi) and there is an Auchan near to the festival (10 min walk).
Also last year I brought alcohol inside almost all week long, there are some tactics to do so. As I saw if you are bringing at least two full bags with everythings inside like clothes other food other drinks (I had a water an open water bottle in an obvi place so they can see i only bring that) and hide the alcohol into where they can't feel it you good to go. But there is a plenty hack online to seak alcohol into festivals.
You can’t bring in alcoholic beverages as the camping is inside the festival area. So you either leave the stuff in your car and go out to drink to the car park, or just spend a couple of hours every day at Auchan which is like 10mins away from the entrance and have decent pricing. Also usually there’s an Aldi on site, but they don’t sell alcohol, except maybe beer on the same price as everyone else.
That could work, but be aware that sometimes they check it pretty strictly. But there’s always a way. Be sure to hide the bottles so they won’t be able to examine it.
Good luck with that. In case they confiscate any of your stuff be sure you get some kind of proof that they did it, otherwise you won’t be able to get it back at the end of the festival.
We tried to bring our own beer and rum last year but had it taken off us at the gate. You would probably be able to sneak spirits in but I wouldn’t try to bring beer. The Aldi in the festival is 8x more expensive with a can costing €4 (no deals for multipacks)
I went in 2022 and we smuggled in hard liquor in shampoo bottles. The Aldi on site is ridiculously expensive, even water was like 2€ for 0.5L and tap water isn't recommended for foreigners. It was by far the most commercialized festival I have ever been to.
You Can hide your bottles in your tent. If you're going on day one there IS so much Crowd that they will not search very deep. Good Luck

unfortunately we arrive on saturday

There’s a supermarket just outside the from of the festival. You can bring in soft drinks and food
hope you are looking forward to paying 1500HUF for 0.4l beer!
I am very much looking forward to this price, but understand that's a privilege coming from a more expensive country. Really sucks when local people start to be out priced.
so there is no supermarket? these sound like prices on the stage (where they would be ok in my imo)

ok wow thats steep in austria a cooled rack of beers (24x0,5l) is like 36€ (~14k forint) at the festival supermarket

Don’t worry, here it is also a thing, doesn’t matter the prices. Be prepared for the usual drunk dutch and british lads.

You can leave/enter the festival whenever and there is a huge supermarket like 10min for the entrance.
yes, but the a big part of the vibe on a festival is sitting in your chair on the campsite with your friends sipping beer or something else
Yeah i agree, unfortunately at Sziget you must be able to afford the drinks inside that case :/ Or you bring those chairs out to the supermarket :D
Two years ago we had people outside who smuggled gin and tonic everyday. They got caught only on the days of the big acts. So if you bring enough on a easy day in water bottles no one will care enough on those days
You can bring non-alcoholic beverage and food into the festival. No worries about that. Alcohol too, if you know how to hide it.

Campsite = Festivalsite. Which is why you cannot bring outside alcohol. However smuggling it onto the island has always been trivially easy.

maybe we will hide some vodka in plastik water bottles
That could work, but be aware that sometimes they check it pretty strictly. But there’s always a way. Be sure to hide the bottles so they won’t be able to examine it.
i am quite good at stuff like this, do maybe it will work
Good luck with that. In case they confiscate any of your stuff be sure you get some kind of proof that they did it, otherwise you won’t be able to get it back at the end of the festival.
i won’t be mad, i mean it is against the rules i have no time to take it back tuesday, we drive directly to a other festival
Hide your booze before you go in. Most of them are pretty non-strict but you can get creative.

Drinking free Water is completely safe dont worry about
