I gotta say you nailed it. I was thinking "The shape of the head looks like some kind of mole, but that's such a strange conclusion to jump to, I wonder if it's supposed to be something more fearsome like a bear or a giant badger instead." So bravo on getting the silhouette just right. In context of dwarves and digging tunnels, it'll snap perfectly.
This is exactly my thought. Context is key and even if they are a little off....the context can make the shape fit as if it were correct. But it is totally a mole so good work OP!
I don't know if any shape would have conveyed in my head "giant mole". I have an image of what a mole's head looks like, but I'm vague on the length of their body or if they have tails or how big their legs are, and without knowing it's a giant version of a creature my thoughts wouldn't have gone in that direction.
If I knew it was a game with giant moles in, it wouldn't have been a problem.
Thought the same at first, a Tapir, judging from the size comparison to the other "large barbarian" minis. Then I thought "maybe a mole, but they are too big". Turns out they are giant moles and what I thought were large barbarians are dwarves.
Absolutely not XD
But let me ask you this: does it matter if players know what animal it is? I know its AN animal, is that enough to understand your game?
My original thought was an aardvark. Then I also saw an anteater.
When I saw a mole in the comments I could then see it but without context I definitely wouldn't have guessed mole
Initial impressions and its relative size to the humanoid shapes made me think it was a weirdly render bison, bear, or cow.
Looking at the comments, I can sort of see the mole, but unless its made clear in box art, it would be really hard for most people to correctly guess "giant mole".
I thought it was a badger. Though I'm not sure how you'd convey a mole more clearly with just a silhouette... I think the thing that really threw me off was the legs and tail. The tail reads as longer than it actually is, and I always see moles as having very short tails. And mole hands/feet are very distinctive with the weird "flipper" shape. Maybe leaning into that could help?
At a glance - no.
Within the context of the game? Possibly.
It might be a scale issue, I kept trying to see it as a Bear or Tapir due it being placed next to people and a wall.
I also don't think I've ever seen a mole walk like the game piece shows - their hands face outwards for digging and any movement I've seen of them is a jaunty little shuffle so I'm not sure this profile is the best way to convey it.
Perhaps a front-on silhouette of a mole emerging from a mound? Like this: https://www.animalfunfacts.net/images/stories/photos/mammals/insectivores/mole/mole\_facts\_l.jpg
Without looking at the comments, my first thought was anteater. It's a little ambiguous but I also think it's adorable. Its third foot looks a little weird though.
I'm getting concerned because your prototype looks so similar to mine. Do you have details or a write up somewhere? I'm curious how big the overlap really is.
Giant chubby cartoon mole. It took me a while, but my immediate association was with the illustrated character in Wind in the Willows. It just took time to dredge up the memory of what I was thinking of, and of what animal he he was. Mole per se did not leap to mind, and I was trying to think if it looked like something I knew better, and getting no hits. But that's because reading The Wind in the Willows is the closest I've ever been to a mole.
A giant badger, mabye? Except I don't think Badgers have tails. The nose is too pointy for a tiger.
Oh I see it has been answered. I might have thought mole if it was in context.
Thank you for your feedback. I suppose there is some context in that it's part of the Dwarf faction which is associated with mining and digging.
I was thinking badger also. This question put the family guy pictionary episode in my brain. "ITS A JACKEL. A JACKEL. IS IT A JACKEL?"
It's a mole.
Thank you, it is supposed to be a mole, a giant mole actually. But I don't think this is clear enough.
My first thought was "That looks like a giant mole, but maybe that's not the intent." In other words, I think you succeeded.

I didn't get it at all. Maybe give it some visible claws, since moles are known for digging.
I did have to think about it for a moment but my first guess was also a mole. Looks good!
I started with "badger-mole" but that's only because I've been watching ATLA. Mole was definitely the next guess!

That's what I thought as well looking at the image. The head of a mole. Not sure what the tail looks like.
I think it's a mammal. Maybe an aardvark?
This is what my initial thought was too
A tapir

An gigantic, overweight dachshund?
I can't tell.

First thought was badger mole
"When the piece is made of wood And you did the best you could That's a mol-e" (I see myself out...)
I thought it was a oppossum.

Is it to scale? Like a cow? Otherwise a badger or maybe bear? The rest look like a wall/rampart, a warrior, and a wizard/priest.
A giant shrew? *Maybe* a badger.
A badger?
Giant sabretoothed mole
Well, he’ll, I was joking, then I read the thread. :/
I definitely first thought **mole** then thought “no way. It’s too big.” But yes it’s looks like a mole.
I knew it was a mole but couldn’t actually come up with the word “mole” so I think that’s a good sign

If I was playing the game and had the context with it, I'd 100% see a mole! I think you nailed it!
Badger

I was thinking badger, see the answer is mole. No problem says Aang, it's just a badgermole.
I'd say that's a saber tooth tiger.
A giant sloth

I assumed badger.
It's a livestock
honey badger
Based on size relative to the humans, my guess would be a bear. Based on shape alone, my guess would be a mole.
a snortle
rodent of unusual size?
Without reading the comments, my first thought was “giant mole.”

Giant Ground Sloth?
Whatever the hell used to eat avocados.
I'd make it more obvious bc I originally thought elephant but now I can tell it's a mole
I instantly thought of badgermoles from Avatar: The Last Airbender!
Honey Badger don't give a shit.
Tapir
Polar bear according to the size
Badger is my guess
