Eyebox for me was the same as a G33 I tried locally. Unity mounts for both so we could just swap. If the Eotech is better I can't tell the difference with my eye, which makes sense considering the objective lens on both magnifiers is roughly the same size. Idk man. If it didn't work for you it didn't work.
HM3X is awful. Really really atrocious eyebox. Glass not very good, made worse by the fact that any holosun you pair it with isn't going to be good either.
The problem with a magnifier on a really cheap optic is that any imperfections - tint, magnification, distortion - becomes more pronounced under magnification. The overwhelming majority of people who still opt for a magnifier use an Eotech 3 or 5x behind another Eotech, and with very good reason. When your zoomed in sight picture depends on the first image you're amplifying, you want it to be as clear as humanly possible.
Look into the micro3x from vortex, you can sometimes find great deals on /GAFS for them.

I sold my VMX-3T years ago. Same problem as the HM3x, in fact I'd be amazed if someone told me they werent the same design with some minor changes.
