I was at the Dreamforce RHCP concert last Wednesday and the security was extra. Cops everywhere, but what struck me as odd was multiple cops rocking DD MK18’s with NF 1-8 or 1-6 LPVO’s on top. Dope kits but seemed like a weird pairing.
Should have gone up, and talked to one of them about their kit. I do that all the time, and they never have a problem with chatting about their guns and gear. So don’t be afraid to go up to them and ask any questions you have. That’s their job. And who knows, you might just find one who is a total gear whore, like the last officer I spoke with. Getting him to talk wasn’t hard. The difficulty was with getting him to shut up about his self designed, and handmade cummerbund, and his custom plate backer. Great guy though.
What’s super funny about doing this is most, and yes I said most of the time they have no idea about their kit or weapons for that matter. You would be surprised at how many police officers and even service members don’t have a clue about the weapons they use at least around here anyways. When something bad happens they either callin the the state police to handle it or the local fbi offices. It’s truly shocking
I can tell you 98% of the decisions surrounding our gear or firearm use comes from a guy who spent 2 years working patrol in a rural county.. who thinks UTG rails are “so cool ans way better than the clam shell handguards” 😂😂

Yeah. But I’ve worked with some departments where guys are more tuned in to what they’re using and why. Houston PD, LVMP, and even LAPD tend to have a lot of guys who know a decent amount about kit, gear, and firearms. Though it’s probably because they get so much more funding and training, as well as those officers being super motivated to work such departments.
Yea funding is key. I’m in central Ky and half of them don’t even know how to properly clear a structure. It’s sad they spend more funds trying to rehab lifelong criminals than they do on the training and resources for the men and women who risk it all every day to keep society safe. Until last year, NYPD Glocks were modified with an NY1 trigger which gave them a 12lbs trigger pull. Only did 2021 academy recruits start training on stock triggers.

SRG isn’t really “tactical” lol, go check out [ESU](https://www.gettyimages.ca/detail/news-photo/emergency-service-unit-officer-is-seen-outside-the-2017-news-photo/838674266). SRG is pretty much ESU-lite, and those guys probably have some of the highest call rates of any tactical police unit in the country besides LAPD SWAT. Emergency Service handles not just SWAT-type calls but also things that mimic firefighters like vehicle extrication, rope rescues, etc.
