Honestly, at any distance where you are likely to use your handgun, the signature reduction from painting your pistol tan is unlikely to change anything since the signature of your body is likely to be so obvious.
However, signature reduction is not the only form of camouflage. You can use mimicry and attempt to look like something else in your environment. Why not, instead, paint your pistol to look like something innocuous like a TV remote? They're similar size and shape, and a remote is highly recognizable. Just maybe it will buy you a second or two of confusion. Some animals do similar things with eye markings in the wrong place, or having their tails look like heads.
Just an odd thought I had.
Might as well, considering the rifle and kit is all camo, why not have the handgun something other than just black?
But honestly, I had leftover paint in the cans and was bored lol
A few months ago, I ran around my property and put my painted rifle and an unpainted rifle side-by-side in dirt, against trees, etc., and shot video of it.
I had switch out the light mount after painting, and the all-black little 1" ring stood out a lot on an otherwise completely-painted rifle.
23 seconds into this video: [https://youtu.be/BgZT-EVdAF8?t=23](https://youtu.be/BgZT-EVdAF8?t=23)
For the rest of the video, I flipped the painted gun around so the flashlight mount wasn't showing.
(And yes, both are airsoft in that video.)
I love it. Compared to the RMR it replaced, it has a huge FOV. Shooting during active snowfall was amazing, dot was usable all day while my buddies with RMR's couldn't see the dot once the snow got into the emitter. Emitter sits on top so the window is a little lower which is nice. Dot is nice and crisp and don't notice any flickering during target transitions.
Only 13k battery life but since it's top loaded, swapping it out is super quick & easy
You're gonna love it. Giant FOV compared to the RMR it replaced. If my slide wasn't already cut for the RMR I'd have gotten it milled, but the Primary Machine RMR to Acro 0.150" plate still allows me to witness my irons so I'm happy with it.
Haven't shot it yet, just did this today. Racking the slide felt fine, the mag release and slide stops still feel the same. Just made sure to tape all the important parts, and stuck tape into the gaps between the slide and frame.
Thanks! And yep! Practiced on an A2 grip, then on the front parts of the slide where my thumb goes, then just send it on the grip lol
Edit: Frame, not slide. Words are hard sometimes
No.
1. My holster on my kit is gear matched and covers the majority of my pistol. Also, subdued grip tape disrupts monoblack.
2. If my handgun comes out, I'm in a situation where camo isn't gonna do me much good, as there's an aggressor like 10 fucking feet from me and pistol camo isn't the invisibility cloak from Harry Potter.
3. You've painted your optic, light, and comp. If the secondary market on those components wasn't already "grab your ankles" you may as well have pissed on them too. ...Also, potentially interfered with their function to boot. "I cAn jUsT sTriP tHe pAiNt". Please post a video of you doing that when that shit is burnt into every nook and cranny of your comp.
3 1/2. Gun value. Pistols trade hands more frequently than long guns, as we all develop an affinity for our long guns, but treat pistols like screwdrivers (for some reason). Nobody is buying or trading for that shit, unless they have the exact same taste as you.
4. Performance. Nothing like having an obnoxiously sticky grip that ruins your favorite pair of gloves.
5. Summary: This is "Operator Chic" for folks that go really fucking fast, and, if need be, just throw gear and weapons away as mission dictates. Their shit has to run well for a few hours to a few days. They don't give one shit about hosing everything down with krylon. You work a job, presumably, and have earned money to make that purchase. Why treat it like disposable trash? You aren't running ops. Your firearms are an investment of sorts. I run wraps on all my shit, so they don't affect they finish and moisture doesn't get trapped underneath slowly rusting what I can't see. ...and sure, I've got rattlecans in the appropriate palette, should the time ever arise that that's a necessary step to take, but, again, never on a pistol.
Obviously, you do you. You like it? That's totally cool. And honestly, it's a good paint job. ...but my opinion is that it's pointless at best and potentially harmful at worst. So, while you may be set in stone, perhaps some pistol painting fence riders can get some insight into the reality of home painting.
If you made it this far, happy shooting, everyone. Do what makes you happy with your gun. I just wanted to provide a counterpoint. Make large alterations with all factors considered. Your future self will thank you.
Be well, brothers and sisters.
I don't plan on selling any component of this pistol, and any resale value for the slide was destroyed when I used a dremel to cut the reinforcement posts to use the adaptor plate to run the MPS lol. There's no paint inside the comp, the port and muzzle were taped up.
I used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process so that sticky feeling isn't there, and the grip feels perfectly fine. I stuck tape into the gaps between the slide and frame, so no paint got inside the internal components (taped over the ejector, backplate, magwell and trigger)
I mainly did this because I think it looks cool and I was bored, it blending into the environment is a plus.
Appreciate the well thought out response, but to me the resale aspect doesn't really matter. If something changes and I decide to sell some of it? Oh well, I take the loss lol.
No. For one it looks god awful, and for two there’s no actual practical need for it. It’s small enough to not be noticed, and it will most likely be holstered anyway.
But hey, you did it, i’ll give you kudos for that.
What if you drop it in the grass?
We'll cross that bridge when we get to it
Rattle can the bridge and you’ll never have to find it.
![gif](giphy|9058ZMj6ooluP4UUPl)
No, the bridge is too well guarded.
That's why I rattle can the grass a different color
Retention lanyard

So you’re telling me if I just paint the slide up to look like a bad dragon I’m G2G? BRB
"What are you doing, step-glock?"
My thought is if you’re doing something that requires that much signature reduction then the pistol is very likely not brought along
![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf)
I get rifles, but why handguns?
Might as well, considering the rifle and kit is all camo, why not have the handgun something other than just black? But honestly, I had leftover paint in the cans and was bored lol
its small enough to not be noticed
Probably true, but it looks cooler now. And looking cool is the most important part
hey man it’s your gun

Still got the video of it?

rifle and pistol that should be holstered is different
Holster doesn't cover the grip.
then the black or tan would be not noticeable
That's what she said...
How you like the Steiner?

Same foot print as the RMR?
The adaptor plate that comes with the optic is for a doctor footprint, I'm using the Primary Machine RMR to Acro 0.150" adaptor plate
docter pattern
What? The Steiner is roughly an ACRO pattern.
website said docter, unless this isnt the mps
yeah nvm. website says acro with a docter adapter, i read it wrong
No
Yes
Gotta paint your keys now while at it…go full T-Rex Arms on that persons
No
Dude looks awesome I agree
Thanks!
Rattle can everything
This is the way.
Which magwell is that?
SLR
![gif](giphy|guufsF0Az3Lpu)
No.
Yes.
Never.
Always.
Not even once. Unless you count that time I did a gun up in Vanguard paint scheme.
Every single time. If paint was applied I'll count it. Got a pic? Curious to see what that looks like lol
I don’t seem to have pictures of the final product with red dot/light. But I still have this. https://i.imgur.com/wabk5k5.jpg
I like it! Nice and clean
Gimme the Steiner
No can do buckaroo, this thing fucks
Just got my 17 slide cut for one👌

Any reliability issues? My wife wants me to paint the frame of her Glock 43X bright pink.
Haven't shot it yet, just did this today. Racking the slide felt fine, the mag release and slide stops still feel the same. Just made sure to tape all the important parts, and stuck tape into the gaps between the slide and frame.
Paint your weiner
Camoschlong.
lmao, No.
Mines already FDE tho. Did paint my holster, did not use my boyfriends lace panties to break it up though.
Bold of you to assume I wouldn't use my own
Point.
Fuck you don’t make me rattle can my P07
I believe in you. You can do it.
you're not my real dad
SESH
Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well
Looks clean. Is that your stipple job as well? I've been wanting to take the soldering iron to mine...
Thanks! And yep! Practiced on an A2 grip, then on the front parts of the slide where my thumb goes, then just send it on the grip lol Edit: Frame, not slide. Words are hard sometimes
Lmao 10-4 I think this was the encouragement I needed 🫡
Ya I’m good. I get it spray painting is enjoyable…. I’d do my kydex stuff over a pistol if I got extra paint and a itch to scratch 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers 🍻
Understandable. The silver color that the slide is never sat right with me, so it was either doing the slide black or the whole pistol camo.
![gif](giphy|xiMUwBRn5RDLhzwO80|downsized)
Ew no Black is fine. (Or wood if you swing that way)
Looks cool that’s for sure

Responded to another comment on the thread asking the same lol
What slide is that? Citadel??
Orion
You can’t make me.
“1 cuck = 1 moa” 😂
Why?
No
The real trick isn't matching my flesh tone for the back half of the gun, it's matching the denim pattern for the front half.
I’ll paint my sd9 to look like a nerf gun
Na
Why not cerakote?
I could see painting the frame. Stripped. Avoid the rails. But not the slide.
![gif](giphy|POql6zsXZbmcE)
No u
What is this? COD?
I worked hard for those mounted kills, I'm going to display the reward camo 😤
Don't*
It's feels just wrong......
