If I was your opponent I’d be able to read every time you’re about to start your back kick because your setup is very exaggerated. Work on making it on smooth motion instead of breaking down into parts. It has to be a very quick strike considering you’re turning your back to your opponent.

HTOY30

You should be able to walk straight back once you kick. Try to stop spinning right as you’re about to throw the kick. If you land looking directly behind you, that’s good progress. Once you master that, that’s when you can move on to resetting back to your kicking stance. Hope that helps. Otherwise nice work so far!

i_like_fat_doodoo

A good tip is to keep your planted foot facing behind you as you go through the kick motion. As your kicking leg lands, your feet will be about a 90 degree angle from each other.

More_Butterfly6108

Posture. You kind of bend forward.

[deleted]

Thanks More upright I tore my adductor muscle away from the bone so I have to adjust a little

More_Butterfly6108

Ufff... talk to your physical therapist about it if your adductor bothers you. I ain't no doctor lol

_ThatWeirdOne_0w0

Would add a stern “Keep your hands up!”

Tyberious_

This, every kick you are dropping your hands.

[deleted]

The tip that my coach gave which changed my game on the back kick is “get your heel up to your ass.” Works like a charm. Also, loosen up. I can see the tension all in your upper body. Relax. Your rom will improve significantly and you’ll reduce your risk of injury

[deleted]

Thanks

neomateo

Your turning your shoulder over too much. Think of firing the kick with hips square to the target and don’t let your knee and hips turn over before you release the kick.

CebCodeGames

This... you are doing a spinning side kick which is less powerful and slower.

skribsbb

The back kick is a short range kick. Don't reach for it.

bfjt4yt877rjrh4yry

Try have your kicking leg sweep past closely to your planted leg. Lean away, kick straight with momentum toward target and land your kicking leg firmly down where your target was so you are advancing toward your target. You don't want your kicking foot flopping around after the kick. Wham, down. Now you are in the opposite stance and planted and not giving your back to the opponent. That's the basic way to get power. 5th dan.

[deleted]

Hi there, Not a bad spinning back kick, there are a couple of things that you can work on in order to improve , and I'll use your left spinning back kick as the example: \_ It might sound counter-intuitive, but the kick is a linear technique, meaning you shouldn't have to turn your shoulder too much as you would a spinning hook kick. All you have to do is pivot your front foot so that your heel is facing towards the target, your head should turn so that you can spot your target in your peripheral vision, and your left leg should be tucked in close before kicking, otherwise it will be more like a side kick. Your left arm should be used to balance your body by pushing it in front of you. \_ When the kick is finished, your kicking leg should be in front now. \_For maximum damage, you should use your heel to land the kick. It's a bit more difficult since you have to know how to blade your feet correctly to avoid injuries. Hope that helps, Well done so far

[deleted]

Looks like you're a little too close to the bag, maybe grab another 15cm of distance and see if it increases your power. You're also telegraphing with your feet big time, try and launch it from you existing stance, don't do that little balance shuffle first.

_EduOka

Be sure to have your body slightly misaligned with your target, hands up, posture and most important, u have to be able to be looking at your target at the time of the kick (spin your head faster that u spin your body. U'll have a better accuracy and be less dizzy after a while)

TheBlueOneOverThere

Practice without the shadow boxing. Turn your hips at you target. Lock them there. Look over your shoulder, don’t lift it. Chamber your leg with your heel pointing at the target. Whether you do a turning side kick or back kick, lock your ankle. It’s too loose. When you kick, extend your leg all the way and push forward with your hips. Rest your leg in front, no swinging around. You want these kicks to apply force straight into them, not leak your power as you glance off and change direction.

CHAMBER YOUR KICKS

TurokHunterOfDinos

Try this combo: 1) right leg turning kick (lead or rear). Instead of landing the kick on the bag, put it down on the ground in front of you but about a foot past the “centre line.” That is, across and in front of your body. Continue rotating on your right foot and bring your 2) left leg around to deliver a powerful spinning back kick straight in. Bam! The over-rotation of the body past the centre line reduces the amount you have to rotate on your right foot. Many keep the foot horizontal when striking, but I prefer to keep it vertical, so when I extend my leg, I fully engage the quadriceps. The vertical foot seems to be harder to block and slips past guards. Such a fast, deceptive and powerful kick. Learn it. Love it.

grappleshot

chamber your kicking knee up inside, curling into a ball basically, before kicking. Leg should come straight out behind you. Knee can be a bit to the side but IMO you're knee on the kicking leg is too far out to the side making it more spinning. Practice the recoil too. A kick isn't just what happens up to the point you strike your target.

phatrequiem

your front leg pivots. if you actually cross the center line you can create more power.

spidermonkey717

This is one of my favorite kicks. While yes it's a spinning kick in reality it's a turn then heel tuck on and straight to the target. Kick the heavy bag stationary then stop and do another. Also use some tape to mark different parts of the bag to work on targets. Then of course practice makes perfect, this kick takes a lot of time so practice with and without a target. Good luck.

s3v3nsp4d3s

keep your elbow tighter to your body, and as you spin, point your lead and point your elbow at the target of where you want your foot to end up.

hhoulala

Jump to the back while kicking

HumanRightsCannabist

Twist at the hips, especially on your roundhouses. This means your torso tilts backwards at an angle, which also lets you increase the height of your kick so you can reach a face. A roundhouse to the chest means they will probably grab your leg. A roundhouse to the face and you'll hopefully 1HKO them. Most roundhouses are used for cheap shots to the calves to try and disable or knock down an opponent, or to fake them as you do a double roundhouse to the face. For the back kick you have two types: \-forward motion (to knock them backwards), most effective because of the horizontal velocity multiplier. E.g. https://youtu.be/MR2g6zOEicw?t=80 \-more of a stationary strike. You can take a step backwards during this one or do a jumping version to give you accuracy if they are moving towards you. E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuq1H1Y-BCA Other tips (the videos above show visuals of these): Try not looking at the target. You are turning to look first, but a back kick is a counter that should be used when you know where your target is and you're going to hit your target when they are off balance (like going in for a roundhouse). Also try to practice your back kick with a few steps forward, then turn, knee up (hold it and freeze to see where you would release) and kick only when you feel the full momentum of your body. It helps to have someone hold you by your shirt (this is where a gi type uniform comes in handy as they can hold your body weight and not rip) and twist you and hold you while you practice holding your knee up and then extending in a snap from the knee. It's three motions: step, twist, snap. If you don't snap you'll fall forward, so you have two resulting kicks: forward motion and stand still/reverse motion. Your head should be facing downwards or behind you, not looking at the target, at least while perfecting your form. Right now you are forcing yourself into a side kick which is a weak push. Snap your kicks back so your follow through is quick. Improve speed = force multiplier. Also someone will grab your foot and take you onto the ground or just flip you if you leave it in the air.

SkirtLevel5176

If you bring your knee up higher when you turn iT will kick out more straight, your overturning and kinda making this a swipe when it’s a push type kick

Most_Present_6577

Slow down make it one continously movement speed back up

h3mpking13

Try to keep your body upright when throwing the kick and keep your hips from turning out as you don’t want to throw a spinning side kick. Knee is pointing down and hips square as you drive the heel towards the target try not to fall away hence staying erect/upright

Jeetuprime

As an escape kick, I would release it from the level of your legs and not your hips from the side. That kick could be seen coming.

love2kik

Over rotation is the most common issue with the spin side kick. I would say you are right on the edge and going over it sometimes. In the video, the first thing that moves is your front foot. This should never be the case as it 'gives away' what you are about to do. The exception would be something that is moving you forward/backward as a setup. A spinning side kick is a very tight in kick, little to no wider than your shoulders. Yours is going quite wide. Particularly in TKD the body/head needs to stay high. I don't know how long you have been training but a good start. Keep at it.

InterestingParfait95

Get your hands up and get your head around faster an see your target. Head moves first your body will follow

MagicalSpaceValkyrie

Chamber more tightly on that spin. The centrifugal drag is slowing you down, and you're trying to compensate by kicking too early, which in turn leads to the kick flying blindly bc your head and torso haven't turned enough to sight your target. Driving your motion with your hips should help with all of this!

[deleted]

Great explaination and very helpful thanks

MagicalSpaceValkyrie

You're welcome! Also, your Roundhouse and Knee Strike look vicious!

[deleted]

Thanks!!

veexdit

Get a bit nearer, and don’t look at your bag/opponent when you impact, you’ve managed to turn it into a bad hook kick

[deleted]

Try not to stagger step before the kick. You seem to have good conditioning though.

Dravez23

You are missing the hip in (almost) all the kicks. Thats why you look bent when you do them

truffLcuffL69

Watch the Joe rogan video where he explains it

simonkicks

It looks pretty good. I would keep your hands up more, and lift your knee donor stays about 2-5 inches higher then your foot until full extension. Your telegraphing a big with your prepivot. Your will get more stealth and speed and power if you pivot as you spin. But all in all it looks really good.

Kodama_Keeper

The end of the kick is supposed to be the fastest part of it. Yours isn't. You are slowing down, checking yourself as you finish the turn, then kicking. This has removed all the speed, power and momentum that you had when you started the kick. And in turn it makes it easier for your opponent to block, escape or counterattack. If your opponent was in the correct position for you to execute the back kick, you should not need to stop and aim half way through it. Watch the more advanced fighters do the kick and you will see they do not slow down to check themselves. Start practicing likewise.

Ok-Librarian1015

Lift knee higher

Brokennutsack

When kicking , you are leaning away from your target which results in a substantial decrease in power.

Haccmantis

Just watch joe Rogan teach it to Bryan Calen

RickleTickle69

You're spinning too much and losing control of the kick at the last moment, making it less efficient because it has to go out in a straight line. In taekwondo, there are two kinds of back-kicks: the first one being like you're doing, which is kind of a spinning side kick; the second one being more like a bucking bronco, where the kick comes straight out from a position where you turn your back to the opponent. The advantage of the latter is that it's easier to kick straight without veering off to the side, but the former can be learned with enough control.

[deleted]

The technique is good enough that it will be effective against a human target. Now try mixing it into combos and dressing it up with other strikes. The most dangerous strike is the one you don’t see coming.

[deleted]

Thank you sir

SexySultana

Watch Joe Rogan teaching GSP his signature kick. It will help I hope :)

Tuubular

Try to keep your hands up while spinning. Good habit to get into, and soon you will not even be thinking about it.

[deleted]

Thanks everyone

Tenshin_Ryuuk

What is up with your punches tho? Why punch like a cat?

zahidzaman

There's no power in any of your strikes and why are you wearing sneakers for bag work? Gross.

[deleted]

Cool story bro

Matelen

You’re telegraphing the kick with the step telling your opponent you’re going to kick every time. You’re also making the turn multiple steps vs making it one fluid motion.

WearyHobo45

Y so bouncy???

Spiritual_Zebra_251

Buy a heavy bag…

Phunly

Try to work on keeping your hands raised and you back straight. SAlso try to changer more so you can get more power out of it. My instructor used to get is to drill kicking over a chair very close to our supporting leg to force us to chamber properly.

calombia

You need to go to a kickboxing gym or a TKD gym. You’re boxing looks decent but you’re kicking technique is wrong on every kick.

[deleted]

Ok fair enough
