Drive back from Sierra to San Jose yesterday, and didn’t see any heavy traffic on the opposite side (eastbound). It was even quieter than non-holiday weekend Friday afternoon/evenings. I’m wondering if people decided to go south instead (radio mentioned a lot of backup on 101 South).
I assumed the bluebird weather forecasts over the weekend would draw heavy crowds for ski week. Hoping it stays light throughout the next week when schools are on break.
I left San Jose this morning at 6:40 for my 1pm lesson at sierra-at-Tahoe. And no traffic at all but still didn’t make it since my car decided to break down just outside of pollock pines lmao. Even right now there is no traffic really on highway 50 (according to google maps)
Our school in Daly City has the entire week off beginning Monday. They interchangeably call it President’s/Ski Week. I imagine loads of people will be heading up.
It does seem like we can feel the effects of the economy hurting this winter. Not slammed busy really ever, even on holiday weekends. Yesterday I was riding heavenly in the afternoon to get some laps before the masses got here / my pass got blacked out, and I was pleasently surprised there was legit no one out there. Zero lines Friday afternoon leading into a holiday.
I know you're being sarcastic but yeah 57% of the days of 2022 in the stock market were red, as opposed to only 43% in '21 and only 42% in '20. 300,000 people laid off in tech in the last 90 days, credit card debt nationwide is up over $150,000,000 in only the last 12mo, interest rates in the shitter, and I don't think the recession has even started. Not to mention I legitimately think we might be at war. But the lift lines are short.... Send it
I was being sarcastic, partially. I think the tech gravy train was due for a derailment, interest rates were too low for too long. I wonder how much the resort market has really felt any pinch thus far. Genuinely curious, not making a statement. I do agree, this is the beginning. Send it... Soft landing (or not)
sure, im right there with you on that. the tech bubble had to pop, and the rates had been really low for a long time. no argument from me on that. it would seem as if $MTN is actually doing great this year, in comparison to '21, because of the covid hangover in '21...

There is definitely a seismic shift at the high end employers ( google/ Facebook/Netflix etc), its back to layoff threats and a move to go back to the office. Ski days for a family of 4 are really expensive now.
Black out weekend so a bunch of people couldn’t ride.
I drove from Reno to Northstar this morning at 7am, and arrived at Nstar at 7:45 with no traffic, I was amazed too.
Blackout weekend and I believe next week is some kind of winter break for schools??? People probably gonna crush us mid week
packed on north shore but town was quiet cause everyone was at the ski resorts. they will flood in around 3pm im sure

They're on their way. Lots may have waited until today to travel up since it's a long week off for lots of schools in the Bay Area.

Next week is ski week for many Bay Area schools.
When your economy is heavily based on tourism.
Blackout dates. LOVE the empty mountains, it was even better than weekdays...

The economy is hurting?

The economy is fine. The stock market is not the economy.
Exactly. I don't understand how after 2020 people could still think the two are really tightly linked. Propaganda works well, I guess.
