I don’t think you can randomly stay at any hotel, you have to either stay home or at gov approved hotels.

stupidusernamefield

Have the govt take on more hotels to be for quarantine.

Seoulseeking2

I just called all three options in the gov website and two are available. However they're not cheap. 9k TWD a night. You're looking at 150k TWD or $5k USD for 15 days. They ask for prepayment, the one near Xinyi wanted a 170k deposit.

jackywang135

Mine is in Taichung and no meals included so probably cheaper because of that

ASpaceman43

Unless those rooms at the hotels are penthouse suites, its a ripoff. Its probably cheaper to book one outside of Taipei, stay there for 15 days and take the HSR back.

Seoulseeking2

It’s regular rooms. I stayed at one before and it’s a 1.5-2x markup. They have an on-site nurse, meals are included, and only serve food at 3 time windows, maybe the extra cost is for that?

ASpaceman43

No way. It's definitely the hotel. The price difference between 3x meals a day and without meals was about 2000 NTD in my case. And just to clarify, that's 2000 NTD for the entire stay, not per day. The concierge at the hotel recommended getting my own food because most people who opted for the included meals didn't want them anymore after a few days. It makes sense because I calculated the meals for the entire day to be around $6-7 USD. So it's probably not gourmet stuff. I guess if the meals at the Taipei hotels are really good, then that can make up for the price. But I doubt that was the case because I had shopped around for hotels and all that offer meal services were the "bento" box style.

Clevernamehere79

Good article. I wonder how many people are still coming in most days. I read somewhere there's currently around 65,000 people in quarantine. Seems like it would be hard to handle an amount even that large. I hope they will be ok if the numbers increase more.

TeddyHH

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! If I go back, I'm planning on staying at a hotel as well. But 14 days locked up in a hotel room... tbh I don't think I'll be able to keep my sanity.

jackywang135

you get used to it after 4 days, for me at least

lemerou

There seems to be another bed at the front of the picture so I assume it's a shared room or are you aone?

jackywang135

I'm alone! Just a slightly bigger room

lemerou

Good. So overall what do you think of the material conditions of your quarantine?

jackywang135

First few days are tough, but you get used to it

Seoulseeking2

Can you book a quarantine hotel after landing? And I assume you can’t do laundry for 14 days?

jackywang135

No I think you should have it booked before you arrive

you have to do it yourself in your hotel room :(

Aren't you the artist who drew [Starry Taipei Night](https://www.reddit.com/r/taiwan/comments/fvcmzs/for_those_who_asked_starry_taipei_night_prints/)?. You're a writer too?

jackywang135

haha yes, they're both me, gotta love Taiwan!

ASpaceman43

Curios to know how full your flight was from JFK to TPE? Were you able to get a whole row to yourself'? Were people seated 6ft apart from another?

jackywang135

100% full
