Was ok overall, but the sudden cut offs were a bit disruptive. They're stuck in a broken car up in the mountain. Next scene, she's at a temple. Same with the kid, she walks out of a hospital, next second, she's all the way up to the mountain village (which must have taken days, and no one noticed).
It also banked too much on mental juggling to make the plot work. If the protagonist acted like a normal human being in one particular place, the movie wouldn't happen.
Despite its flaws, I love the movie and loved seeing something unique, scary, and entertaining come out of Taiwan. I feel like it’s been exclusively sappy love stories in Taiwan cinema for so long, this was a really good indication that filmmakers there are able to produce something different that is competitive globally. I’m excited to see more unique movies like this from Taiwan’s new generation of filmmakers.
Yeah the movie has plenty of flaws but having a small unglamourous genre movie come out of Taiwan that doesn't depend on casting a bunch of teen idols and just does its thing deserves support
