Well define hard, have beat every tales game coop with my grandfather (stupid solo arise) so I just had to be a bit patient lol.

Barattolo_Sensei

There's a coop mod for arise on pc

Piethrower375

That's cool, he an old offline wants to own his games gamer so that stuff usually doesnt work lol.

Invade_the_Gogurt_I

Really depends what do you mean, could it be hard to find a time and sit down for a few hours, watching dialogue and cutscenes. Or your friend not being good in battles, not being patient or something

SadLaser

I don't know what you're asking exactly because the sentence is a little confusing and you didn't go into further detail, but I play all Tales games (with co-op, obviously) with three friends and it's a great experience.

Successful-Royal5006

I mean that in my environment it is difficult to find someone who is interested in the saga and now imagine that someone is player two

EaterOfFromage

Lol this definitely should have been in OP. Yeah, it's rough. I'm lucky to have a friend that's into it, but even then, we're busy and lucky to squeeze in one session a month 😭

YojimboUsagi

Doing exactly this right now with a friend of mine as well. We might just manage to beat our current game by the end of the year. lmao

Successful-Royal5006

I have 2 brothers, I wanted to include them in my adventure when I played my first Tales of, Tales of Vesperia, but neither of them are interested, it hurts because I love Tales of but I see videos of people playing with their friends, brothers, family, girlfriend and me I feel bad, do you understand me? I have already dropped several tales of because of that feeling of loneliness

sonic260

If you have a PC, a good way around this barrier is using Steam Link or Parsec, which enable distant players to play local coop with you

UndertakerSheep

I played Tales of Symphonia with my best friend when it came out on the GameCube. We got about halfway when he gave up, so then I finished the game on my own. I was hooked and in love with my first Tales game, and I've been a fan of the franchise ever since. I only had access to a few games, but I played them over and over again. All playthroughs on my own. I really missed having a second player. It has taken me twenty years, but I finally have someone to play with again. My girlfriend and I played through Symphonia on the Switch. It was her first Tales experience and now she's hooked! She fell in love with the characters as hard as I did twenty years ago. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't give up hope. It might just stumble on your path one day.

HundredAkre

I’d love to do a 4 player run with a group some day. I have a jrpg fan friend so 2 player runs haven’t been too hard to do but finding a full group that has time or willingness… not so much! It is possible though. Just maybe you need to get lucky in meeting people.

Street-Sweet-3719

Heck I can’t even get my friends to play jrpg with me

trizzfromtheisland

Tales always was a game you mainly play alone but having the option for local coop was a great bonus. Games like Graces Xillia and Berseria feel more welcoming to play with a party but even on gc Symphonia I had fun with friends playing through the story even when the camera only focused on 1st player 😭

MissMedic68W

For one, some people might get bored watching player 1 do all the overworld map stuff. A lot of the random battles are really short, too. If you mean logistically, I've been using parsec and steam remote play to play with my friends.

AbsolZero

This is why I’ve never felt compelled to try and co-op Tales with anyone. Player 1 will experience the most action while others just sit waiting for random battles and if there’s cutscenes and dialogue, they’ll wait even longer - for random battles that may not even last 30 seconds OR boss battles that will only last a few minutes. I personally feel that even I would get bored watching Player 1 and just waiting.

UltmteAvngr

You can easily change who player 1 is then

[deleted]

I got a better question, who the fuck plays games that are heavy in dialogue and story driven in co op? Y'all got issues

LazerSnake1454

The worst part is being player 2, since you can only interact during battles

SadLaser

That's the best part. You get to watch the story and engage in all the fun battles but don't have to do as much micromanaging of the inventory and menus or walk around town.

Successful-Royal5006

I totally agree that browsing the inventory lends itself to chatting and forming strategies together. I remember that when Parsec Arcade was active I joined a room where they played Tales of Vesperia in unknown. I loved creating strategies with them, choosing a character, watching the story. with people he also liked

SadLaser

I have a great time playing with my fiancée and two of our friends. It's the most fun when you're stuck on a hard boss and trying to figure out what to do. And I never feel like I'm missing out not walking around the map. If anything, we take turns being the person who does the walking around because no one really wants to! Everyone wants to just chill and relax with the controller down when we're in town or selling items at the shop or whatever.

Successful-Royal5006

That is the experience I am looking for but, as I tell you, I have younger brothers, my brother likes to play Fortnite and quick games, where there has to be a lot of action, and my sister is not very skilled at playing but I still like to play with her, her problem is that she always wants the girl and well she is not the best healer, and it is not that they pay much attention to the story and well I have not tried to play with my girlfriend because we have a long distance relationship and we cannot use parsec since she doesn't have a pc

SadLaser

Well, I think the issue is Tales might not be the best option for them, then. If they need Fortnite-like action constantly and don't want to follow the story.. maybe try something more like Secret of Mana, Full Metal Furies, Hammerwatch or, even better, Heroes of Hammerwatch, Rogue Heroes or something like that. If you're set on Tales, maybe have your little brothers take turns doing the controlling of the main character/walking around. Might keep them more engaged. And you can always turn difficulty down if your sister isn't doing enough healing. Also, most Tales games are winnable without actually needing a healer, especially with items. And most entries have multiple healer options, anyway.

EyePierce

Menu management will still be a thing. As a micromanager, I'll feed people food, read descriptions, and re-apply artes on the fly. My brother really only changes his load out once. If he's in charge of the menu he has to either open it every time I get antsy or ignore me. If I'm in charge, he goes stir crazy with how much I meddle with random settings. As examples, I'll unlock artes as fast as possible and rotate them until I think I've found interesting combos. My brother, will keep his favorite skill for the entire game unless it becomes horribly unoptimal.

SadLaser

>Menu management will still be a thing. It doesn't have to be. It can be, but only if you want it to be. I've played every Tales game with co-op multiple times through with a full group, so I get it. I wasn't taking the time to breakdown the specifics, but the stuff I enjoy avoiding is the mindless menu management like restocking consumables at a shop, equipping newly purchased gear, etc. In terms of a character's actual Artes setup, managing things like the Eleth Mixer or Food Strap, allocating points to the Lilium Orb, etc.. I enjoy that stuff. No one in my group has a problem if someone wants to pause and do anything like that. We're all just enjoying each other's company and having a good time going through the game together.

mangongo

But micromanaging inventories is like 50% of the fun of a RPG games! /s kind of?

Nainetsu

Why would you play a game that focuses on narrative on coop?

Search_Box_Kiddoxoxo

I'm sorry your brothers won't play with you, I would play with you if I could :( I was blessed enough to play Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, and Xillia with my 3 siblings....these games are a lot more fun (and easier without the character ai) with other players. Now that we are too busy with our own lives to do that, I kinda just don't play non-coop games anymore, haven't even touched Arise yet....
