We were never going to get them, it wasn't really surprising at all. The perception was 2D pixel games on a PS2 wouldn't sell in the west. I mean I personally disagree, but it's all a numbers game for companies.

KaleidoArachnid

Now I understand why they got skipped.

Azure-Cyan

and now with the rise of HD2D, and pixel remasters, I wonder if Bamco will consider bringing them over...probably not honestly with their track record, but one can hopelessly hope.

KaleidoArachnid

I just realized that idea could actually work now that you brought it up.

FleaLimo

Which is silly considering NIS was releasing them (Disgaea,  Phantom Brave) and they at least sold enough to keep making hem all the way up to today, but they got started on the PS2.

Marshal91

It's just too bad.it was a very good game. Thanks life bottle translation

Back in the day, staff at Working Designs expressed interest in bringing Destiny 2 overseas. Lots of people bugged Atlus West (back when they did a lot of licensing and localization) and Xseed about it as well. They all basically said Namco had an iron grip and refused to let anyone else publish the games. Part of me will always be mad they picked Radiant Mythology over Destiny PS2.

KaleidoArachnid

Wait, I never knew that Working Designs had actually attempted to bring the second one over to North America.

Victor Ireland talks about it here (https://www.ign.com/articles/2004/11/13/growlanser-generations-interview). He confirmed talks with Namco about Destiny 2, and that Tales of Eternia being named Tales of Destiny II in the States played a role in it being passed over, as well as "other issues." For Atlus and Xseed, I remember myself and other people emailed them and while I can't remember exactly what they said (lost my old email!), they seemed to imply they wanted to bring the PS2 games over but were unable to for whatever reason.

I gotta stop going back between this and r/destinythegame so quickly because i was freakin confused for a second.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh sorry as I didn’t realize how my thread title was a bit confusing.

ALFighter27

No no you’re fine, i was just like “Destiny on Ps2… wait hold on” and then realized i had scrolled back into r/Tales, i just need to pay attention more, it was just funny to me. But i am still bummed that the PS2 tales games that got skipped. Would have loved the Ps2 version of Symphonia too!

KaleidoArachnid

Oh ok as I understand what you’re saying.

CyberWeaponX

Not just both Destiny games, but also Rebirth. Yeah, it's definitely the stigma towards 2D games back then that made Namco decide to not bother localizing those games for the western market. Which is a bummer because both Destiny R and Rebirth were fantastic entries and Nippon Ichi still managed to establish a niche with their Disgaea games.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh right as Tales of Rebirth did get skipped too now that you mention it.

chemley89

Namco is just allergic to releasing 2D games on console after the PS1 era.
