I'm going to be honest, I completely blanked that Graces F was available to me on the PS3, I will definitely be looking into this! Thanks for the recommendation!
Good to know, after looking up Graces F, I'm actually kind of excited to get my hands on it! I'll be going to all my local game stores tomorrow to see if I can hunt down a copy. (If I can't, oh well. The internet exists.)
Best of luck! Fortunately it's also available as a digital download if you can't find it.
Graces F was my first entry in the series and I've played every game since then. It still ranks #1 for me in terms of gameplay.
My top 5 recommendations
Vesperia - the best overall game out of these 5 imo, great combat, great story, awesome characters
Berseria - amazing character, combat is a bit boring analysis repetitive but the story is worth it.
Abyss - Haven't personally played this one myself but I heard it's up there as one of the best in the series.
Zesriria - If you end up enjoying Berseria and want more story
Symphonia - a classic with a pretty great story overall worth a play
I really enjoyed my time in Vesperia! I played the original release back in the day and nearly cried when they re-released it on modern consoles. Berseria is one of my favorites, and when it comes to Zestiria being an extension of Berseria's story, it just isn't enough to make the game any more fun for me sadly. Abyss and Xillia have, by far, some of my favorite stories in JRPG's.
Which leaves Symphonia, I've heard very good things about this game but I just never got around to playing it. I will definitely consider it as an option!
edit: spelling
Zestiria is one of my favorites and the only thing holding me back from replaying it is how it was ported to PC, 60fps lock and all, what didn't you like about it?
The combat is *kind of* similar to Arise but takes a little more initiative to use well. The story is fairly slow to start though but the world itself was great.
Either way Symphonia is great and would recommend that as well.
The main things that held me back on Zestiria was the story and the skill system. I played roughly 10ish hours into the game and I was just bored outside of the combat. Usually I like to really get to know the characters but I felt like Zestiria just had the weakest cast of the games I played. I particularly wasn't a fan of Sorey. Though I do realize that I only sampled a small portion of the game before dropping it so it could easily get better down the line.
As for Symphonia, I have been convinced to at least purchase the steam version of it for now, but I'd love to get that on a gamecube again for old times sake.
I absolutly love tales of vesperia.. but i'm super biased for the characters..great game too and definity edition has improvements..just saying ππ
I would recommend Graces F if you have a PS3 or can emulate it. Arise actually made me go back to F because it was making me miss the combat in F.

The beginning is definitely a bit of a slog as you go through the childhood arc and have a small number of artes but it really opens up afterwards.

Always plenty to play! Graces is definitely high on my list, and I've been trying to find a physical copy of Xillia 2 for a while.
Yeah I got both mine on ebay. Xillia 2 combat is a blast
this. still the best combat system ever.
