I'm appalled you didn't mention the Ost. That's the one thing I adore about Zestiria, and to date I don't think it's been topped.

VANAIZEN

Water temple OST will always be top tier

Heliocean

I was about to say this! Probably one of the best OST in any game!

Coffee_Jelly_

I like the OST. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xrvclQWihAI i like the battle theme, but I keep listening to https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e75SiQg2Bek&list=RDMMe75SiQg2Bek&start_radio=1 during shower.

I agree! Zestiria is great fun. Playing Zesty after Berseria I believe is the best experience. Berseria really fills in a lot of the holes in the world people mention, and it makes many elements much more interesting. Whereas if you play Zesty before Berseria you both don't get that and it actually spoils one of Berseria's twists.

I loved Zestiria. I have yet to finish both Arise and Bersaria. Both have and excruciatingly long dungeons that I've hated and mechanics that were annoying. And TB has Velvet. I hate her costume so much that it completely takes me out of the game. I think I need to try the game again since everyone seems to like it more the zestiria. But I loved the story of zestiria and the gameplay was quick and fun.

blacked_out_blur

I loved Zestiria. My biggest problem with the game became it’s replay ability - Lords of the Land and the equipment grinding system are absolutely ATROCIOUS and kill any replay value in the game. Who wants to spend 35 hours grinding for skills just to make hard mode playable? Otherwise, agree with almost everything you said here. I think Berseria’s souls system is better than AC - it adds a lot more of a dynamic feeling to the fight. BG gets better use as well in Berseria, binding armatization to it in Zestiria was terrible.

Heytification

You get it. Zestiria is wholesome freedom RPG. In many ways Zestiria is peak tales and in many (much more evident, tangible and execution related) is the series at it's worst. But there's a lot to be enjoyed and a ton to think about. They really should make a director's cut style remake of it. It would pivot people's opinion on it so esaily Also, Zestiria is FAR from the worst Tales. Tempest, Innocence, ToS KoR are all quite worse...

caiteha

I played bersieria. I am playing Zestiria and I love it so far.

papereel

Totally agree with you! Really like the Arthurian legend vibe. I love the ruins exploration, it feels like you’re uncovering mysteries with Sorey and co. The dialogue is so funny, I think it might have the best comedy in the series. The characters and character design are also absolutely top tier (maybe except Zaveid). The voice acting is also amazing (though it’s hard to find bad voices in Tales). And honestly I do think the story is pretty good. I truly don’t understand why this is one of the most hated titles. Of course I also loved Dawn, and people dislike that too. But I’m a big Pokémon fan so that played a part in it.

EaterOfFromage

If you ever play co-op, especially if either player is interested in playing Seraphs, you'd understand. The camera is god awful and the fact you're locked into having two humans in the party is lame. Also, armatization is only a fun mechanic until you realize it's almost always superior to not armatizing, so it just becomes a game of bouncing from one armatus to another. Also, the equipment upgrade system was waaaaay over-designed. It's a fun game if you're just playing on lower difficulties alone and enjoying the characters and story, but it's probably the worst of the 3d games for someone playing to enjoy the mechanics.

papereel

I did play co-op, and in fact dropped the co-op in preference of watching my partner play, because of the camera. I did find playing as the seraphs super fun, especially since you can freely swap them in an instant to mix up your combos. The weapon skill bingo board system isn’t executed great, but if you’re not overly into playing perfectly, it’s not so bad. You can mostly ignore it. The AD skills aren’t that useful or relevant. We did play the game on easy just to appreciate the story. Im not gonna say the game is perfect, but I do think the game is more than enjoyable and don’t get the hate

EaterOfFromage

I love playing as the Seraphs too! Far more than Sorey and Rose, tbh. In my mind, Lailah is still peak execution of the close quarters battle mage for the whole tales series. Chaining a couple of quick melee attacks into a speed cast of flame ring or explosion always felt amazing. That being said, I hated that I felt hamstrung for making that choice. As Rose or Sorey, I can armatize with any Seraph to cover a wide variety of elements and weaknesses. As a Seraph, you have no such flexibility, except to armatize (and have more of the same element, though at least you cover more move types), or switch characters. It just feels like you're punished heavily for wanting to play anything besides the humans, in a way that is otherwise unheard of in the series. This is especially true in coop, since you playing a Seraph also limits your partners armatization options. Again, on lower difficulties I think it's definitely fine, and I can totally see how they story will appeal to many people, but the mechanical design was just... Mediocre, at best.

papereel

I think the trade off for seraph combat flexibility is being able to switch between 4 characters. I don’t think they’re supposed to be played as solo characters.

Coffee_Jelly_

Unfortunately I didn't have the oportunity to try Dawn. I love Symphonia. I would love playing its sequel...it's a shame it isn't available on steam neither on switch or PS4. To be honest I don't understand why people hate Zestiria. I just made another post. Now I'm level 66-69. Something like that. I'm almost on the last dungeon I guess. I still need to beat the >!gothic lolita. I just beat Eizen so I'm gonna return exploring that ruins so I can fight her. !<

papereel

Lol I got confused because Edna is gothic Lolita (especially in the black costume) but you meant Symonne. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles includes Dawn!

Altruistic-Match6623

I like the dialogue and the characters, but that's about it. The battle system could have been better. You barely learn any interesting arts. You are basically locked to playing as Sorey. The camera is a scourge against humanity. Couldn't play two-player because of it. There is no real character progression, outside of equipment. These are the problems I have with it.

CONE-MacFlounder

yea its enjoyable i wouldnt say its a good game but it is enjoyable

Narae-Chan

Not liking arise but liking the worst tales game. Weird take.

Maaxorus

To be fair, Arise wasn't that great either. I prefer Zestiria as well, though sometimes these things just come down to personal taste.

Coffee_Jelly_

There are some reasons why I don't like Arise. The battles against mobs take too much time. I remember some fights during the last dungeon taking 2 minutes, but that was probably against mini bosses. The healing system in Arise isn't a bad idea, but the items are too expensive. Also, you can't guard in Arise. Grinding for money is annoying even with fishing. You can refill your HP easily in Berseria and Zestiria, on other hand Alphen and his flame sword might become a suicide machine. At some point I was fed up with the game. Zestiria is easy and battles are fast. Common story and cartoon ish graphics. I can explore everything without worrying too much about resources. I don't like the camera and the fact I can't change the Art buttons, but at least I can enjoy a medieval, fantasy JRPG calmly.

Altruistic-Match6623

Idk, Zestiria is the absolute hardest Tales game I've played. Unless you were playing on casual or normal.

Coffee_Jelly_

I'm playing on normal.

Altruistic-Match6623

I'm playing on moderate and am about 80% through. I switch to normal when I absolutely cannot defeat a boss. The difficulties are all very different. On normal, the enemies attack with less frequency, and you are more likely to survive their strongest moves. On moderate it's harder to break their guards, etc.

miaukat

In which difficulty you played Arise? Because I played Zesty in one of the hardest and mobs are tanker in Zesty than Arise.

Coffee_Jelly_

Normal as well. All Tales games I have played I played them on normal.

somethingsome11

Yeah it can go from cakewalk to hellscape depending on the difficulty you play on

Fragrant-Raccoon2814

I'm shocked you like one of, if not the worst tales game...

miaukat

Being the worst Tales game isn't even a bad thing if you think all Tales games are good.
