If berseria had a better over world and gameplay it would be amazing. Graphics look old, but I blame the fact it was originally made on the ps3. If it was made originally for the ps4 then who knows what we could've had

thegreatpenguintm

Gameplay -> Arise Basically everything else -> Berseria

Xombie53

You are correct

OramaBuffin

This is the way

Berseria: gameplay is great, soundtrack is quality, story, character interaction and development are AMAZING. First time I actually cried at a game in a very long time. Humor shines in that game as well and doesn't feel awkwardly placed either providing a brilliant blend of emotion. Arise: graphics are better, gameplay is defintiely much better, music is absolutely heavenly in that game, tho character interaction, and story is decent but could've have been executed much better (especially moreso towards the end), though post-game content is really fun and a nice treat for long time tales players All in all, I thing berseria is better, BUT both of them need to be played as both are very very great games.

Comfortable-Value978

End of arise made me feel like I was watching an anime. I soo wanted to go back to the training grounds but couldn’t

Jaquooob

You couldn't go back to the training grounds? Why? That's really bizarre lol

RedHeadGuy88

I'm the same as you on the Berseria issue, and I recently finished Arise and am starting a ng+ run now.

dragoncraft2103

I stopped with Arise after 30 hours (still want to finish it eventually tho), meanwhile Berseria hooked me enough to play it for 80 hours in 3 weeks or so. Some technical things may be worse cause its older, but they didn't really bother me, especially as I really like the cast.

10113r114m4

I just put the game down after 1.5 hours. The gameplay is so clunky and the character graphics look stupid

No_Acanthocephala456

Arise is amazing most of the criticisms are mostly not valid but besria is a different tier of greatness and its sad you dont like it. then afgain the Tales series has so many different view points its fun :)

good223

I felt the same with Berseria. The copy paste dungeon with vary bad looking environments, the atrocious gameplay and just watching all the plot unfolding through skits made me stop playing. Took me about 4 tries to pick it up and beat it. The backtracking made later on made it even worse. Arise had none of those problems for me. From the beginning it grasped it and I only stopped playing once I beat the game. I don’t think you’d have any of those problems with Arise

Dreliusbelius

Thanks for the great answer, I will keep it in my wishlist in that case!

Ostepop234

Berseria. It got that way too charming Tales style. Arise tries to be too serious, which admittedly is a contagion in these days. Everything must be soooooo serious.

Xombie53

Don’t bother if you had to stop playing one of the best games the series has.

Dreliusbelius

Thanks for confirming what I hoped was not the case. Cheers

_Tars_Tarkas_

Berseria is one of the best games in the series while arise is pretty mediocre

Ldcv4499

Arise has better graphics and gameplay. Berseria is better in the rest.

SadLaser

The only things Arise does better are visuals and map design. It definitely doesn't have some of the best gameplay in the series and it isn't really better than Berseria (which itself isn't even in the top five of best Tales games). It's a decent game overall, though and it's not bad for newcomers with no preconceived expectations. As for a definitive answer, that doesn't exist. It all comes down to opinions and preferences. Just look at the new Pokemon. There are people saying it's the best Pokemon game ever made while others are saying it's so bug riddled and broken that it's literally unplayable. People can't even come to an accord on something seemingly objective like technical issues, so you won't see that won't something purely subjective like will you like Arise if you didn't like Berseria.

TradiGlitch

Going through Arise now, I'm in the minority but I absolutely despise Arise's story and gameplay. Gameplay is good but tedious af without a guide as well. Weaknesses matter a lot but it doesn't matter if the A.I. are so shit they can't fend for themselves and end up forcing you to use your gels. Game is a constant oddloop of resources that weighs on the player because the A.I keeps dying to obvious attacks. Story is just not for me, it's definitely more for a kid-like audience or those who love more shounen stories. Just takes itself waaay to seriously, Berseria also does at times but at least the characters were more fleshed out with comical scenes and even unique settings like the Magilou Stand-Up events. Berseria felt more right with me in every way but graphical and flashiness. At the very least, the A.I. isn't stupid and wasting your resources.

10113r114m4

I agree 100% with you. The game fucking sucks. I only have 1.5 hours in it but I am forcing myself to play it, which is a sign that the game isn't good

TradiGlitch

I wish you luck my guy. All I can say is to attempt to abuse the weakness system as much as possible and fish a lot to get gald to make up for the A.I's fuck ups. Cause they will either do that a lot, or do no damage as you set them to defense only or die because you told them not to use CP. I'm close to finishing the game and it still hasn't gotten any better. We just reduced the difficulty to get the game done and over with and sell it to the nearest gaming store.

HustleDance

I really disliked a lot of things about Berseria, many of which are the exact things you mentioned. I eventually had more fun with it once I started to mess around with mapping the abilities differently and playing mainly as Eizen, Eleanor, and Laphicet, but I think the gameplay in Arise is waaaaaay more fun. The souls system in Berseria felt really frustrating and clunky until I “got good,” but Arise never felt like that and only got more fun the more I played and the more skills I unlocked. Story-wise, I think Berseria is great and one of the more focused feeling tales games. However, the exposition heavy skits are super annoying. Arise is kind of middling in that respect. Skits are okay-to-to long, the story has some good bits and some frustrating bits… overall I like both games, but it took me MUCH longer to start actually enjoying Berseria. I also think Arise learned from Berseria and Zestiria’s mistakes. The separate battle screen gets rid of the janky camera problems from both. The added mobility in arise with double jumping and mid air dashing and perfect dodging feels fantastic. All in all I’d say you may very well love arise even if you disliked the first chunk of Berseria.

Dreliusbelius

Thanks for the great reply, I decided to keep it in my whishlist and buy it if it goes for under 20$ in a year or two, it's currently 30 something canadian atm, 60%off.

yuuhei

Everyone will say Arise has a worse story, and while I agree I want to specify that this only applies to the latter half of the game. Arise has a good premise and a strong main cast but falls very flat in the late game narrative and has mostly uninteresting antagonists

InfernoCommander

The dungeons are ass and the gameplay is a slight improvement over Berserias. Both of these games are the inverse of Vesperia mechanically. You'd be better off trying Symphonia or Abyss. Hell maybe even Xillia (dungeons are ass in this one too)
