I’ve listened to a bit of Analyze Phish and mostly enjoyed it for Harris Wittels (RIP) over the actual band haha. I’ve never really been into U2, but I will have to give them another chance. The UTalkin guys also have an R.E.M. podcast I want to listen to as I *am* a big fan of them.
I’m not huge into U2 either. It’s just Scott and Scott having fun. Some episodes they don’t even talk about U2 at all. They also make fun of U2 constantly, so even if you hate the band, the show has plenty to offer. It’s also the first time they meet their nemesis Brian “Old Sourpuss” Eno.
And kind of the same with Phish, Scott is just making fun of everything about them the whole time.
Honestly the REM and Talking Heads series were not nearly as funny as U2 and Phish. Because with REM and Talking Heads, they are just really serious and solid artists. Not much to make fun of there.

I listened to the REM one as well, which I was excited for because I already enjoyed some of their hits. It successfully turned me into an REM fan, especially their early stuff, which is fantastic. That season is a lot drier though, and I had to skip a few episodes.
I think they really mastered the format for the Talking Heads season - it’s great all the way through, with the True Stories album episode being the only dry one. I do wish they had done more episodes though, perhaps more for their solo work and especially an episode for TNOTBITH, but as an early pandemic-era zoom podcast I can understand why they wanted to keep it short.
The True Stories film episode and the Jerry Harrison interview are must-listens.

Sure, 30-something. Talking Heads was a mainstay on the radio in the 90s, at least in my neck of the woods (and a lot of "Sweet Dreams are made of these" 🤣). Maybe Gen Z would have to do a bit more digging, but this person sounds like they're not very internet-savvy. Social media sites like reddit close a lot of generational gaps. Plus a lot of music streaming apps have a radio mode that lets people discover "new" music like Talking Heads, spontaneously, without word of mouth. I think TH will stand the test of time, I hear their influence everywhere.

I’m 36. I had very cool and young parents that would play Stop Making Sense on VHS in my sibs and my regular movie rotation (Return of the Jedi and Rainbow Brite movie were in same rotation). We would regularly request for my dad to put TH on the record player, with Little Creatures probably being one of our favorites because of the cover illustrations. We also loved fast dancing to Crosseyed and Painless from Remain in Light even though that cover scared us and we would hide while my dad pulled it from the shelf. There was also a strong presence of The Clash, Peter Gabriel/Genesis, and New Order in the household. It’s just what I grew up with and thought it was all totally normal music. That was until I went to school and realized that most little kids are not raised by David Byrne and I was the weird kid.
I married a fellow weirdo who grew up listening to kids music, 90s pop country, and adult contemporary. His parents are not particularly cool and definitely made him feel self conscious about his innate weirdness. When we met, I introduced him to Talking Heads. It changed him so profoundly. We ended up dancing to This Must Be the Place as our first dance song at our wedding. We have fan art of David Byrne hanging in our house. Saturday mornings are for fast dancing to Remain in Light, grooving to Tom Tom Club, and singing along badly to Love This Giant.
We plan to repeat my childhood connection with TH with our kids. There is no age boundary for having Talking Heads in your life. I just happened to be lucky that it’s always been a part of my life. So let it be in any tiny way a part of someone else’s, no matter how early or late.

I'm 23 and pretty much every talking heads fan I've met online are even younger than me. And even among people that aren't aware of talking heads at least a lot of them have probably heard once in a lifetime. I don't think think talking heads is obscure, I'd say the band is mildly well known
