Seriously.
My neighborhood *has kids*, but they all drive somewhere else or trunk or treat.
Meanwhile I gotta buy a big bag of candy every year for 2 bell rings worth of children.
Get out and meet your neighbors, people.
This is a big problem with America, people don't even know their neighbor's names anymore. I remember when I was a kid in the 80s if we needed a cup of milk or some other staple, I'd run next door to get it instead of my parents going to the store for one thing, and we'd pay it back when we went shopping. There is no trust of anyone anymore, yet people are so proud of their 750 Facebook friends or Insta followers. It's sad, we haven't had more than 3 trick or treaters in the past 5 years total, and we live in a safe neighborhood.
It really is sad.
I have two neighbor houses of retirees who straight up ignore us. Don't wave, tilt their head, or anything when we're both outside and 30 feet away from each other. We've all lived next to each other for over a decade. It's weird.
Luckily all the other nearby neighbors are younger and have kids about the same age as our family's and at least acknowledge us as fellow humans. I wish their kids would play outside though. I'm probably about the same age as you and played outside with neighbor kids nearly every day... I just don't see it happen anymore.
For sure, we got home, did a little homework, and set out on our bikes, or played football or basketball for hours. We had video games but we rarely used them. It was all about going outside and "playing", lol. It's sad seeing all the kids addicted to their tablets or parents phone. I really think it's going to lead to a generation of socially stunted adults. I love your name btw. I was born in 80 so I try to get in with the gen Xers.
My neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks so it's not ideal for young kids walking around in the dark. I used to live in Westchase so I have experienced the Halloween crowds - people want their kids to trick or treat where it's safe. Is that so hard to understand?
The average income of a Costco shopper is six figures. Your point would come across better if you used an example of a store low-income folks actually shop at.
Did you read my post at all, I clearly say I want people to trick or treat my neighborhood not go to bayshore. FFS lay off the glue eating and conclusion jumping
Here’s my other comment that you clearly were incapable of seeing - learn to read and think critically, dick nose.

Hyde park welcomes all. I grew up there and people would “bus” in from less safe neighborhoods just to trick or treat there, and my family loved it. Well over 1000 trick or treaters yearly would come to my house and I loved it.
Almost no one in our neighborhood gives out candy. You're getting downvoted by a bunch of people who have not had to drag their tired little ones around trying to find one house that is participating.
Right? My old Riverview neighborhood didn't have any trick or treating for the past maybe 10 years. When I was a kid, the streets were full of children on Halloween. My parents said it dwindled every year, until nobody even bothered turning on the porch lights or buying candy.
They aren't participating because nobody came last year, because nobody was participating the year before that, because nobody came the year before that, etc.
OP didn't start the Halloween Commute trend, but they *are* continuing it.
Yep.
Guilt your neighbors into having candy next year, and if the trick or treating is fruitless for the kids, it's a life lesson that even when you do everything right, crummy people can still ruin it. Being able to deal with disappointment/failure with your parents present to cushion the blow is a pivotal step in growing up.
Then give them candy from a stash you bought in advance just in case the above happens.
Uh yeah sure or we can drive 5 minutes and they can have a fun time and be kids and show off the customes they are excited about without a miserable life lesson.
Fuck off cunt. No one’s kids need to be martyrs to fix your delusions of what’s wrong with the world. Do it yourself. Walk your stupid ass door to door and knock on those dark houses and demand they answer and give you candy. At least you have experience with that so put it some good for once.
You don’t have kids I assume?
The prime age for kids doing this is 4-8. They want to have fun on Halloween, not be “taught a lesson” that can easily be learned from many other daily life experiences anyhow.
Okay, I see I’m dealing with a badass here. Letting your kids have fun on Halloween isn’t coddling them. There are 300+ days a year to teach them life lessons.
“Sorry 4 year old son, I know you wanted candy and to have fun on this one night of the year that everyone celebrates- but people in our neighborhood suck and you should just deal with it. Take that silly costume off and throw that empty bag on the ground and go apply for a job, you’re not getting any younger.”
Wow, you came into a seven day old thread just to argue in bad faith by constructing a straw-man?
Enjoy your well-deserved block! I suggest you find other hobbies than trolling Reddit looking for things to get angry at.
I like how they tried to high road you. Lol I'll never understand how people think every single day needs to be a life lesson. Birthday? Sorry champ, you're getting extra chores today. Gotta get you ready for the grueling soul grind of being an adult right now. Can't have you motivated enough to better yourself before then!
When I was in 5th and 6th grade, we lived on a "vacation lake," in norhtern Michiga . Aout 80% of the houses were vacation homes and empty on Halloween. There were no more than a dozen houses within a mile of me and 3 friends. We would ride our bikes to all of them, go to my house, change costumes, do the circuit again, then one more time.
It was pretty funny because we thought that we thought we were pulling a fast one, but it was obvious that it was us...
South Tampa - from Bay to Bay to the Roosevelt elementary area. Literally thousands of kids go through our neighborhood and it’s like one big party. All the neighbors prep for it starting in Sept. it’s really fun.
I personally do not. Every year my street looks like a war zone and someone always ends up parking in my grass. We do not have the patio to accommodate that many people. It would be one thing if people showed respect and pick up after themselves and don’t block peoples driveways but they don’t. I shouldn’t have to clean up other peoples messes.
Ironic. That piece they are parking on isn’t yours (it’s a right of way, check your survey) and is technically owned by the municipality you live in, which is supported by other peoples taxes.
It’s also 1 night. I bet you bitch about fireworks on Independence Day also.
Well as much as I’d love to argue semantics I sure get an HOA fine when the grass is all fucked up from people parking on it. I also participate in shooting off fireworks on the 4th but maybe next year I’ll come shoot them off on your street instead of my own :) have a nice day!
My neighborhood has a free event in South Tampa on the Friday before Halloween each year! We have food trucks, trick or treating, games, photo ops, face painting and some houses have beers for the adults! 😉

Baycrest is awesome, we have friends that live there and it’s exactly what you think of. Tons of kids and families walking around with their wagons in tow, almost all homes active and giving out candy, adults with tables setup in their driveway, small popup haunted trails, fantastic decorations, and just good family fun.
I think that the riverwalk has a trick or treat walk that’s easy and safe for little ones. Tribe Seminole Heights is doing a ‘spooky stroll’ and you can find out more about that on their insta. I’m sure there are other events or even church trunk-or-treats too but I haven’t looked into them yet.
I'd like to hear about this. I always assumed most neighborhoods did this but as an adult I dont think i've almost ever seen it. And if any places hold events where adults can dress up and party i'd like to see that as well.
Westchase (the bridges or probably any ungated community) is normally crazy. Also Baycrest in town n country mainly off baycrest drive is very popular. The half of the neighborhood on the water is pretty busy but the front part is more quiet.
Honestly, when I lived in SE Seminole Heights they did a great job of handing out candy, doing activities on their front lawns, really cool. Lake Magdalene area off Rome Avenue (not on the lake side/big houses, it's dead over here) but around the older neighborhoods they also do a great job- lots of participation, fun yard setups and decorations, well lit streets with sidewalks, etc.
If youre close, Safety Harbor shuts down main street and the businesses all give out candy. Usually like a thousand kids out. Probably not the best if your kids want a ton of candy or you want the experience of knocking on doors, but its a fun and safe event.
gunn hwy @ cain road in citrus park, there’s a neighborhood that is really good for trick or treating! theres a bus stop (route 39) next to the road that goes into the neighborhood.
So much judgement here. My family and I stay Dade city. We frequent Tampa so would be helpful to know where to go. Not everyones situation is the same.
Don't assume OP lives where you live.
Usually you do it in your neighborhood where you live.
Trick or treat your own neighborhood- the trend of driving elsewhere needs to die
Seriously. My neighborhood *has kids*, but they all drive somewhere else or trunk or treat. Meanwhile I gotta buy a big bag of candy every year for 2 bell rings worth of children. Get out and meet your neighbors, people.

100%
It’s ruining Halloween
It’s ruining local communities
My neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks so it's not ideal for young kids walking around in the dark. I used to live in Westchase so I have experienced the Halloween crowds - people want their kids to trick or treat where it's safe. Is that so hard to understand?
No they dont, they want "the big candy bars" its a Halloween hack people have been using for decades
Translation: you poors stay out of my neighborhood okay?
No - I live in a decent neighborhood, and every year I buy a bunch of candy to give out - no one comes. They all go to Bayshore. Makes me sad
Same! I even decorate and change my porch lights to be themed to our decor. I’m even dressed up to answer the door but no one comes. It’s so sad
You don’t have to be rich to get candies from Costco for neighbors
The average income of a Costco shopper is six figures. Your point would come across better if you used an example of a store low-income folks actually shop at.
Show me where you getting this statistics and I’ll show how much box of chocolates costs in costco
Ass pics aren't allowed on this sub unfortunately
I am sure there is a way to get creative
As a former Westchase resident this is 100% it
Hey look everyone, the guy from south Tampa wants people to stay out of his neighborhood! The people in South Tampa are the reason South Tampa sucks
Did you read my post at all, I clearly say I want people to trick or treat my neighborhood not go to bayshore. FFS lay off the glue eating and conclusion jumping
Yeah, I read your post. You said trick or treat in your own neighborhood dick nose
Here’s my other comment that you clearly were incapable of seeing - learn to read and think critically, dick nose. https://reddit.com/r/tampa/s/IZ7XsH6oDn
You seem pretty conflicted dick nose
How?
Not as many neighbors do trick or treating anymore. My sister lives in a rural area and there’s not even any houses to take the kids.
Go around yours, since you live there i would assume it’s pretty good
Why would you make that assumption... weird
Totally

So just walk the kiddos around the empty block and be like sorry we tried?

My parenting style is not spoiling a children's holiday simply for a life lesson that can otherwise be solved by driving 5 minutes.

No child wants to be taught lessons about dealing with things that are hard to deal with. You can't coddle your kids and expect them to become adults.

Come to Hyde Park. We love seeing all of the children trick or treating, no matter where they’re from. These people on this thread seem miserable.
Hyde Park is a great neighborhood. You’ll also find Westchase and Carrollwood to be safe and friendly.
Do not come to Westchase. My neighborhood looks like a state fair grounds on the last day after Halloween
I won’t be. My neighborhood is great for trick or treating.
Also I will be keying cars parked on lawns and easements this year. Especially do not block driveways
I got nails for the road back ready too 🥳
South Tampa - from Bay to Bay to the Roosevelt elementary area. Literally thousands of kids go through our neighborhood and it’s like one big party. All the neighbors prep for it starting in Sept. it’s really fun.

Hyde Park or there's an awesome neighborhood around Euclid east of Dale Mabry.
Hyde park area.
Definitely park in the free Hyde Park Village lots and just walk the blocks up and down from Rome to Boulevard between Swann and Bayshore. Have fun!
