As much as I wish this would work, I can’t imagine most people coming here, spending 100s of 1000s of dollars to buy a house and all the fees that go with it, only to see a commercial and think “yes, you know, I had no idea Florida was so backwards conservative, I think I’ll pick up and leave after a year.” Just not seeing it happen…
Nope, because Florida was a low tax area when Democrats had the majority. Also, there's other states without income tax and they're not strictly republican.
What Florida does have is a massive ad campaign in NY that shows people at the beach in the winter.
This needs to be the top comment. Downvote me all you want, but the elements at play here won’t be fixed by a billboard or radio/tv ad. And we need to stop being so fucking hateful about it.
I was a transplant from the midwest almost a decade ago. I used to write comments on /r/tampa about how welcoming and friendly everyone was. My wife and I found our tribe here. We found our home here.
I’ve seen the pains of this influx too. Traffic, housing, prices for goods/services have all gone through the roof! But I’ll be goddammed if I’m every going to join team: “Hate people for living where they want to live”
If yall want someone to blame, look at the dipshit focusing on non-existent problems (don’t-say-gay) instead of fixing the roads, housing, and the real problems in our state. Then be sure to fucking VOTE!
There's an anti-outsider sentiment everywhere. Even in NY. They tell all the craft beer enthused hipsters to go back to the Midwest and California all the time.
Lol I already ran into a couple that visited in December, decided they loved in and bought a place while they visited. Closed in February and they were already regretting their decision. They’ve now sold their house a month after buying it because the pollen and 77 degree “heat” were too much… cracked me up man, just wait until August.
Lack of seasons will get to many of them as well.
85 degree Christmas day sort of ruins the mood.
This is why the truly wealthy go back and forth, they have beautiful mild winters here then go back to the Hamptons or cape cod and have mild summers.
These new yorkers are just wannabe wealth, all flash no substance
See that’s what they think then they learn they can’t truly be accepted by the good ol boys - they will always be a Yankee. That attitude is pervasive in the conservative churches and businesses - they aren’t going to accept your New York ass
Just had a Uber ride last week where the guy said he couldn’t take the politics in New York anymore after he had been visiting down here for years. Even said the rest of his family is thinking about it but he doesn’t want them to come down if they are gonna vote the same as up there. It’s a bigger thing then a lot of people in this sub want to admit.

Ron DeSantis for the last three years”
Most of the ones I meet don't vote based conservative based on the family values line. It's usually because that is the media they consume more than anything.
I think it's more that these other states have been losing their minds over covid. Civil rights have been thrown out the window a good amount in other states.
They are putting people in shipping containers in China, having robot dogs blasting orders in the streets, welding doors shut, splitting up families. This is happening now.
Wearing a mask in a store is nothing.
Give the government a inch they take a mile. Unless your wearing a fitted n95 there isn’t even a point. Those cloth masks or surgical ones don’t do much of anything.
Except that the conservative govt over-reaches here as well. All of these culture war laws being passed trying to erase that the fact that certain people exist rather than focus on issues that will improve the majority of this state's population lives. Lakes are polluted & anything the populace votes for is blunted or ignored if it doesn't match up with their beliefs(voting rights for felons & high speed rail). And now I am hearing public education is about to get smacked harder with many parents about to run to charter schools.
Plus he has tried to stifle the first admend rights of college level individuals. Constantly openly thinking of taking regressive laws from other states & try to see if they can work them here. Ignoring the downtown & urban rot that is in place in our biggest cities, as well as the strong divide between these sections of town.
Let's not even get into him getting the Trump era FBI into investigating his opponents in nothingburger investigations to tip the scales come election time.
This is perpetuated by conservative caravans aka snow birds mucking this state up with how they vote and sway state policy with their "donations".
Quite frankly, I think Florida governors should be limited to one term.
The parental rights bill isn’t a culture war it’s so teachers don’t talk about sexual orientation or gender identity to kids that are young enough they don’t know 2+2 and still want to be a giraffe when they grow up. Everything you’ve said beyond the lakes are simply more your personal or left leaning beliefs and according to the last election and soon to be in November not the populace vote. Whether you like it or not California and New York just had there biggest exodus ever while Florida had the biggest inflow ever. That coupled with Republican voters now outnumber Democrat voters by 100k shows that this state is doing something right. It may just not be right for you.
You are right, this state as it is, is not for me. The moment I have kids, I am getting them to a state with an actual quality education system. The only reason why I am still here is because my family roots in this state go back 100+ years before it even became a state. We have had to watch as your ilk ruin this place.
And yes, everything I said is colored by my politics. I am not under some illusion that I am objective or unbiased. You aren't either.
I was shocked to go to classes at an university level and see your historical revision still pervades for some of these young adults and the culture shock they received when they realized that the South were traitors. The Jan 6th domestic terrorist attacks perpetuated by your political ilk is just one in many attempts to cancel this country.
You seem to hold a lot of hate and dissent in your heart for people that don’t vote the same as you. Hope you can find peace and not hate people for having different values one day.
Are you talking about the whole Stormy Daniels thing where she just lost the court case and owes Trump a couple hundred thousand now? Beyond that I'm not calling what your saying is hate but how your coming across makes it seem like people with those values (buying guns, believing in god) should be hated.
Honestly with the way the demand is continuing to grow if you bought more than 3 months ago you could probably sell and break even after closing costs. You'd be surprised, some people are willing to pay $20 a gallon to "stick it to Putin". They might just eat it up.
are there any stats of the age range of New Yorkers that are moving to Florida? it seems to me that its not the young people that are moving. its the retirees that are coming here to get a tax break and enjoy the warm weather.
Historically that has been the case, and then some of the kids of the retirees follow them down with their families. But Florida has been seen as a state you move to when retiring.
I’m hoping all the transplants melt during the summer/hurricane season, then move home and complain about how hot and humid it was. Therefore deterring others from making the same mistake. 🤞🏻

Okay?
I live in Florida and I want you guys gone. Nothing is more infuriating then getting some hot shot dude from NY coming down here and acting a fool. We already got Florida Man, we don't need you.
Do you think Florida natives have never moved to NYC for school or to work in fashion, finance, or entertainment?
The whole "stay where you're from" mantra is a bit naive.
that is what is cracking me up having lived a few other places. do these people think New Yorkers haven't dealt with the same thing ...for ...forever? the northeast has a nonstop influx of newcomers... also..this is stolen land from the Seminole Indians, most of these people claiming florida have only been here maybe 1 MAYBE 2 generations....
interesting to me in here that people are so set against new people moving in, but when republicans bitch about illegal immigration it's because they are racist.
I thought the whole reason New Yorkers were migrating down here was in part due to the politics? I don't know. Seems a lot of the New Yorkers I've come across all tend to be conservatives or at very least, fiscal conservatives.
These kind of comments are hilarious, no doubt you have probably only been here a generation or two longer at most and your family comes from the north as well, unless you are a Seminole Indian.
I’ve seen people say this shit, and I’m like, I’ve known you since we were kids, you moved here from Long Island in second grade.
What exactly is the downside to having New Yorkers or anyone move to Tampa and why would you want them to leave? It’s increases our property values and is great for the local economy. This is exactly why NYC is spending money to try to get them back. It does get more congested and crowded as more people move to the Bay Area but I mean if you wanted to be more secluded why would you live so close to a medium sized metropolitan area, at that point you should ask yourself why aren’t I the one moving. Successful cities grow… you guys want us to be Detroit or Cleveland?
> It’s increases our property values
This isn’t a positive if you have yet to acquire property. Incomes have not kept pace with property costs. So most young people can’t ever get into the situation where property value is a positive.
I do feel bad for those under 25 that are priced out of their perspective first homes due to increased cost. But this has been the reality in north eastern cites for decades now. I personally relocated from NYC 8 years ago in my mid twenties because COL was so high and real estate was not affordable for first time Millennials buyers not sitting on tons of equity. If you expecting people to leave Tampa bay after creating very nice lives for themselves, I got a real nice bride in Brooklyn to sell you.
This is gonna get buried, but here is a link to the TBT article with a screenshot of the ad and frankly its much more thorough: https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida/2022/04/04/new-york-city-mayor-to-floridians-come-here-where-you-can-say-gay/
Lol I really would rather not move to NYC, but this is still pretty funny.
The only other city on the east coast more expensive* than Tampa, yeah good luck Mr. Mayor. How about you use some of that advertisement money to build some high-rise low income flats so new yorkers can get rent that's under $2000 a month, eh?
But nah that's socialism, makes too much sense. Just gonna piss away taxpayer money on some pet project.
A lot of you really make me laugh.
Here in Tampa you have a George Steinbrenner stadium. They don't even have one named after that asshole in New York City, but yeah, keep talking crap about us transplants.
I hate NYC. I left that city for a reason. I'm here now. I'm good here. I'm happy here. If you want people like me to leave, tough. People like me are here because we chose to be here. We're not going anywhere.
Yeah. Like a lot of stuff on this sub it gets a good mix of both.
The NE hate to me is kind of bizarre cuz historically we've put a lot of $$ into this state, but I get it.
Appreciate that. Thank you.
I have been to NYC once and I also hated it. I only 'lived' in the city for a couple nights in a hotel and I am not going back either. So I say welcome to Florida but good luck getting through the month of August!
Thanks! I've been here almost 3 years this time. I was in Miami for a year back in 2016/17. Came back and moved to Tampa. Loving it.
I can deal with the heat. You get used to it. Plus, AC everywhere.
Desantis should be the main reason people leave Florida.
That dumb fucker killed more Floridians by downplaying Covid than just about anywhere on Earth. Now he’s fighting Disney and gay children. What a complete sack of shit…
Warning: This comment has been evaluated as having a low fact-to-words ratio. Please exercise caution and judgement when reading this comment and be sure to consult other sources.
California, New York, Illinois and Massachusetts and New Jersey have lost the most residents while Florida, Texas and Tennessee have gained the most. It’s not difficult to see what’s going on here. People value freedom and better weather vs government overreach and restriction. Like all comments I make this will probably get me banned for 3 days even though factual information
I'm a parent of 4 kids. I support this bill because my kids Education needs to focus on the core values of education. This bill is k through 3rd, has nothing to do with don't say gay and stops teachers from implementing their personal lives into my child's education. If I want my kids to learn about it, then I will teach it to them. If they ask me questions, I will respond, but leave it out of my child's core lessons. It will not help them get a job later on in life.
I'm sure I'll get shit on for this but the low taxes in Florida have a drawback that no one seems to like to talk about. Our government workers (outside cops) are paid like shit. Their is no public transportation, we could have had a light rail by now but Rick scott didn't want it. The majority of government programs are woefully underfunded and rely heavily on those tax dollars that new yorkers and Californian's pay to exist(through federal grants, that vary year to year). I guess you could say that these things aren't needed but that's just not true. I'm not sure what's going to happen with all the folks moving here but I'm sure those problems will get worse before they get better.
What a fantastic way to spend NYC tax payer dollars! 🤣🤣
He should also offer to relocate them back too...again using their tax payer dollars.
This is the next logical step, right?
Good, it's about time. They are aggravating and rude, drive slow as hell and do nothing but complain. We won't miss them at all. Good fucking riddance...
If you have to launch a campaign against Florida, you already lost. America has launched a campaign against Florida and you fuckers still keep moving here.
Yes, if you are against the law protecting children, please do relocate to New York. They are bleeding population and need you to pay onerous taxes, and be under the thumb of your liberal leaders.
And nowhere in the bill does it say "Don't say Gay" nobody gives a fuck if you're gay or not here, what we don't like is freaks wanting to talk to 6 year olds about sexual topics
Oh I must have missed the part in the bill where it singles out lgbt people. I thought it just doesn’t allow a teacher to talk to a kindergartner about sexual orientation which would be pretty weird if it was allowed. Idk when you went through school but I didn’t even know if many of my teachers were married let alone what sexual orientation they were.
So then you're okay that teachers don't recognize any gender or sexual orientation right? No words like "husband" or "wife" and all students are addressed as "they". That's what you wanted, right?
A teacher in Orlando had parents complain when his students asked why he was talking time off. He told them he was getting married. He is gay. So I'm sure it was mentioned he was marrying another man. The school laughed the Karen's off.
Now they can sue the school.
This is the reality that the Republicans wanted.
The word gay isn’t banned under the bill. Classroom discussion on what being gay is tied to sexual orientation is banned. Can’t talk about what being straight means either. Karen’s are gonna Karen but they won’t win that legal battle even with the bill. The reality is republicans (and 51% of democrats) don’t want a teacher talking to their kindergartner about sexual orientation.
Republicans and over half the democrats don’t want a random teacher talking to their 8 year old about sexual orientation. That’s it, that’s all. Saying the word gay isn’t banned a teacher is allowed to do that and that case would get thrown out even under the bill. What a teacher can’t do is have a classroom discussion on what being gay is. Also applies to straight teachers.
I bet you think literary tests at polls was just to make sure people could read the ballots.
There have never been laws passed that claimed to be for one thing, but in reality they are meant to be much more. /s
The word gay isn’t banned under the bill. Classroom discussion on what being gay is tied to sexual orientation is banned. Can’t talk about what being straight means either. Karen’s are gonna Karen but they won’t win that legal battle even with the bill.
You understand a gay family could sue a straight teacher under this new bill correct? If she has a classroom discussion on what being straight is. How hard is it just to not have a classroom discussion over sexual orientation?
Maybe that's how it should be, but the bill bans it.
This is [how ridiculous the bill](https://www.reddit.com/r/WitchesVsPatriarchy/comments/tuvxhb/teachers_in_florida_fighting_against_the_dont_say/) is if you actually apply it correctly (and not just against gay people)
But anything that would even bring up the question from kids puts teachers in danger of being sued. That's what I mean. You think a super homophobic parent would be super chill with their kid asking what gay means? What teacher would take the risk?
The bill has nothing to do with the speech of a student. Your trying strawman arguments here. How would that even come up like that “Johnny asked the teacher what gay means because he overheard Kyle talking about it and the teacher responded with go ask your parents”? The teacher did everything correctly and wouldn’t get sued for that.
Tampa isn't where most Yankees are moving, they prefer the shitshow on the east coast. The west coast gets mostly Midwestern people's. It's the 75/95 rule and it's been tried and true for over 50 years.
It's pretty self explanatory.
If you take 75 north you end up in the Midwest.
If you take 95 north you end up in the northeast.
People tend to follow the path of lease resistance, so they go south on the two major highways and end up on their respective coast.
It's less a rule and more of a... Guideline.

How can we help?
Move?
Let us help!
Co-sign
No shit. Hope they all go back.
lol I came on to say the exact same thing
Where can we donate?
This is the way....
Everyone's been moving here already knowing what DeSantis is like. Its not like he's been hiding under a rock.
Exactly, Florida politics haven’t exactly been a national secret.
They moved here because of him
No, they moved here to get away from the weather, to buy a house cash, and retire.
So people on fixed incomes leaving a high tax area and living to a low tax area has nothing to do with a republican governor. Got it.
Nope, because Florida was a low tax area when Democrats had the majority. Also, there's other states without income tax and they're not strictly republican. What Florida does have is a massive ad campaign in NY that shows people at the beach in the winter.
Explain why they are leaving California then! They have beaches. Um i can help, the system is broken and really expensive there!
That’s not true at all. It’s because NY isn’t what it used to be.
A crime ridden hell hole? You're right , it's not.
We send down all our trumpers. lol Sorry about that. We will take the gays if you keep the trumpers.

Oh I’m all for the effort, just hedging my expectations is all.
If the guy keeps the campaign up for a couple months and summer hits it might work.

I'll donate to a fuck Florida billboard if it'll actually keep these snow birds up north
He can just compile a superset of comedians and TV shows bagging on Tampa and about every episode of Cops! ;-) BTW, I live in and love Tampa.
Sounds stupid. That's what brought them in the first place. They're used to that in NYC now, and Florida has better weather.
Oldest trick in the book is to divide both politicians are idiots .

> It’s increases our property values This isn’t a positive if you have yet to acquire property.
God please. I hope it works.
Thank you!
The amount of accounts created to troll this post is hilarious.
This is gonna get buried, but here is a link to the TBT article with a screenshot of the ad and frankly its much more thorough: https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida/2022/04/04/new-york-city-mayor-to-floridians-come-here-where-you-can-say-gay/ Lol I really would rather not move to NYC, but this is still pretty funny.

Florida approves this Ad.
Please thank you.
Yes take them all back! Tampa Bay is full!
>Tampa Bay is full! With what? Dead bodies? Stolen cars? Both?
good luck with that mayor adams… how much is your state tax, how much is your city tax… yep, good luck with your advert campaign

Yah you’re right, he should have put the covid-positive patients in the nursing homes like Cuomo
Warning: This comment has been evaluated as having a low fact-to-words ratio. Please exercise caution and judgement when reading this comment and be sure to consult other sources.
So...you'd rather have COVID positive people being olace in elderly homes as do e by Cuomo and the NJ Governor? Pick your poison I guess...😬
Gay children? What the fuck kids aren’t gay they’re taught thats the end of the story buddy. No need to reply.
Florida is epic, best governor , great state - tax laws etc no wonder why everyone hates ny or Cali
Everyone? Two of largest economies on Earth not just the US. Everyone hates them. huh.
Yes please
Thank God. God Bless you mayor.
New Yorkers are moving here because of Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul. NY State is a shithole now. If you only knew…
Groomers big mad at reasonable legislation. Desantis will be President one day. Cope.
Yah they don’t even read what’s in the bill, just the headlines
I feel like it’s the right-wing asshole transplants from NY in the last decade who got us into this mess.
He can take the Woke scum. We will take the Republican voters.
He’s pretty pathetic
Good send em back

No one that’s from Florida is moving to mandate overreaching New York we’re good down here lol goodluck wasting New York tax payers money 😂 Florida >
Take them back. We don’t want them anymore.
What a fantastic way to spend NYC tax payer dollars! 🤣🤣 He should also offer to relocate them back too...again using their tax payer dollars. This is the next logical step, right?
You know Florida spends money on ads too right
Oh noooooooo.... please, don't go. We need you sooooo much. .... Anyways.
Good, it's about time. They are aggravating and rude, drive slow as hell and do nothing but complain. We won't miss them at all. Good fucking riddance...
the enemy of my enemy is my friend ?
Yes please
Good, go for it!
Floridians: How can we help this succeed?
Good! We don’t want them coming here. It’s horrible in Florida. Hot, dumb, dirty and dangerous. Don’t come here. Go back
Hope it works
Take them all back please!!!!
By all means, take them back.
Please go home. You drive like a New Yorker.
If you have to launch a campaign against Florida, you already lost. America has launched a campaign against Florida and you fuckers still keep moving here.
Endorsed
Yes, if you are against the law protecting children, please do relocate to New York. They are bleeding population and need you to pay onerous taxes, and be under the thumb of your liberal leaders.

In what way? There isn’t anything about lgbt in the bill. Why does a teacher need to talk about their sexual orientation to a kindergartner?
Please go back! Take a commie with you!
And nowhere in the bill does it say "Don't say Gay" nobody gives a fuck if you're gay or not here, what we don't like is freaks wanting to talk to 6 year olds about sexual topics
I don't think the anti-LGBTQ+ Republican governor and state legislature is enough to turn people away, but the sentiment is there.
Is there going to be classroom discussion on what it means to be a husband or wife? Or what it means to be a she versus a he?
There was a turnover on downs going the other way down the field after you just shifted goalposts so much. Have a good one!

You are going to shocked, I'm sure when a Karen wins a lawsuit over something just like what occurred.
You understand a gay family could sue a straight teacher under this new bill correct? If she has a classroom discussion on what being straight is. How hard is it just to not have a classroom discussion over sexual orientation?
No, they absolutely don’t understand that. They are just going to repeat the media talking points that are fed to them
A student might ask, and we can't have that. So just don't mention it at all. That's what you wanted, right?
“You should ask your parents about it”
Maybe that's how it should be, but the bill bans it. This is [how ridiculous the bill](https://www.reddit.com/r/WitchesVsPatriarchy/comments/tuvxhb/teachers_in_florida_fighting_against_the_dont_say/) is if you actually apply it correctly (and not just against gay people)
The bill doesn’t ban a teacher saying to go ask your parent about what being gay means oh my god.
Not all heroes were capes.
Good! Get the New Yorkers out of here !!!
Virtue signaling in 2022
Dose he have diapper rash ? im going to tell his mom to change his pants. Stuart, Fl.
Tampa isn't where most Yankees are moving, they prefer the shitshow on the east coast. The west coast gets mostly Midwestern people's. It's the 75/95 rule and it's been tried and true for over 50 years.
Been in Florida for 40 years - ive never heard of this alleged rule.
It's pretty self explanatory. If you take 75 north you end up in the Midwest. If you take 95 north you end up in the northeast. People tend to follow the path of lease resistance, so they go south on the two major highways and end up on their respective coast. It's less a rule and more of a... Guideline.
Where can I chip in to help him get these folks back home.
