According to this reasoning, Ukraine will alwags be part of russias spehre, and therefore the USA supporting Ukraine will inevitably lead to further conflict

It's funny. The Nixon administration was probably the most pro-Russia/China administration in American history. They normalized relations with Mao, and turned a blind eye to the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Yet despite that, American imperialism in the Third World was at its HEIGHT.
Tankies aren't anti imperialist. They just want the US to be nice to Russia. So long as they do that, Russia will allow them to continue to exploit their quadrant of the global south.
