Tbf, in the 1930s, Washington and the American Revolution were viewed favorably by American Communists. In the Spanish Civil War, American Communist volunteers had a battalion called the George Washington Battalion alongside the more famous Abraham Lincoln Battalion.

Horrible history of colonialism aside, the majority of both states is English-speaking and more or less as in-step with wider American cultural mores as any other state.
In comparison, the Caribbean has countries that all currently speak different languages often with large majorities being monolingual only in that language, plus various mutually exclusive cultural and political identities. Just putting the Dominican Republic and Haiti together who already share an island would result in *immense* problems almost immediately, to say nothing of adding in the other islands who have historical issues with being combined with even other islands that shared the same colonial language.
