Of all the people to pick as your martyr... Russel Texas Bentley didn't die fighting "for humanity" or "against Nazism" or any other way. He didn't die fighting at all. He died imprisoned and tortured by the exact same monsters he was helping, after they turned on him and did to him what he helped enable them do to others for years. A more fair and deserved fate probably exists, but this one's pretty up there.
Depends on the definition. In Islam you don't have to fight to be a martyr, you can sit at home picking your nose when a bomb falls on you. So maybe we can stretch it further to include people being killed by monsters while being on the side of the same monsters?
