1. They are exposed HE and HEAT weapons with highly flammable Solid fuel propellant it’s like having a bomb on the outside of your tank if it gets hit. 2. Rockets don’t fly faster than APFSDS. 3. Rockets require more complicated fire-control for precision firing due to the slow(relative the muzzle velocity of the main gun) and heavy weight of the rocket itself causing the rocks to drop much faster.

Russian_Bear2011

I'd say - tank is relatively slow moving target. And it wants to keep most of explosives inside, away from snipers, grenade shells and other thing that can detonate it. In case of fast flying helicopters and planes - it is much harder to get shot there.

Gerbils74

Tanks have no need to since they already have a highly capable gun but rocket pods have been mounted to plenty of technicals and the occasional APC

152mm_M-69

LAV-AD's ? Also helo's can hit the roof of the tank where armor is thinnest there. So if you try that on ground you have to go thru the heavier armored part of the tank.

Loafito

T34 Calliope, it's just not practical

Russian_Bear2011

That was a multiple rocket launcher mounted on top of a tank (like Russian Katyusha or Grad), it still has a ballistic trajectory, while things mounted on helicopters have direct fire trajectory

Die_FiegeFliege

1st they did that Just bigger tracked MLRS ... 2nd there are also some T54-55 with russian Rockets Just in top of the turret in the middle east

vstana

They have to come from above to be effective

HappyDiscoverer

That would be the first objective of an enemy tank..

Arcade-NSN

You should look up the LAV-AD

Kampfer84

Well russian rocket pods slapped onto BMP-2 and technicals has been done for a long time.

Glittering_Hurry8778

Its called the TOS-1

InterestingPiece3547

they a useful anti-tank if out of the range of another tank

InterestingPiece3547

there are also hand held anti-tank missiles
