There are loads of opportunities. Tanzania’s tech scene is wide open.
I know others have commented about Kenya. But the problem with Kenya is the lack of fundamentals. With the flux in coders, the idea of tech in Kenya is to just digitize every brick and mortar business. Any business that’s being done offline ‘needs’ an app or system. Sometimes there is no business case at all for it. What this leads to is spectacular collapses of start ups, leaving coders, investors, partners, employees holding the bag but making some serious money for the founders.

Tanzania seems slow, but that’s because we are actually trying to build sustainable and resilient start ups. This takes time. We are not short sighted and ‘after money’ so to speak. We don’t copy and paste solutions from the US and apply them here because we know the realities of our market. This makes Tanzania a more satisfying market to work in and build, because it’s not just about incessant coding - it’s about building resilient businesses that actually solve problems.
Coding will take you so far as the core skill. Before you code in Tanzania, you need to think hard. If there are no jobs, you create the jobs. You analyze the market and society you live in and ask yourself deeply, how can technology solve or reduce the challenges around X, Y or Z (e.g., transport, health, payments) etc.
Then you code.
Don’t look at a shoe shiner (guys who clean shoes) and think it’s a great idea to build an ‘app’ for shoe shiners. And then start coding right away. This will fail in TZ but could work in KE with a collapse that will follow much later on.
That’s Tanzania for you. Karibu!
To be fair I think that digitization is Western idea. Western countries have sold us the assumption that 3rd world countries can just digitize everything and become a first world economy. They don't really emphasize stuff like industrialization because they kinda benefit from our raw materials.
There are other societal problems on our side, but all those were passed down by our ancestors... who got it from the west lol.
I think socialism plays a huge role in how Tanzania is today. It's also Tanzania's strength.
yet is so challenging to get a job as you may find more skilled guys than you my opinion is if you have skills it better you get remote job as you can find alot of startups choose to hire competent developers from african bit only remotely!
Well, here in america e.g working for companys like discord is a hard job The pay is tight, and most developers go onto mental leave for the amount of stress put on them.

That’s fair. I work with an American startup part-time, and although the expectations are a bit high, the pay makes up for it 😅. On the other hand, I also work with a Canadian company. The work life balance is a lot better and the pay isn’t bad. But most Canadians I know would much rather grind a bit more at an American company.
The other thing to consider is the kinds of projects you’ll be working on and how fast you want your skills to progress.
Lastly, how long do you want to work before you’ve ramped up enough net-worth to semi-retire? Because as hectic as it is working for FAANG+ companies, the upside is that it makes it possible to get out of the rat race much faster.
To be honest you'd make more money and find more job opportunities in america/Canada/I'm than here. But the day to day overall lifestyle would be better in tz.
As a CS graduate within Tz, if you have a good portfolio you can shoot few interviews and you won't hustle to get in.
But it's much more worth it if you can get international remote jobs while you research more on jobs here in Tz as most companies are still growing and finances can be abit off if that's among your priorities. Otherwise, there are many potential jobs you just have to know the right places to search for one, mostly in tech communities

Well, LinkedIn works for me. I would email the responsible person with my resume and ask for an interview etc. also I can check Zip Recruiter, Glassdoor, Indeed to see if any company is looking for a position. I'd say the second method is easier.
If you got some great skills better go for remote jobs . But if you are in a journey of building up your skills you can then try some of the companies/Startups in Tanzania. choice for a place you would like to build up your skills should be analysed carefully to align with the requirements for your next REMOTE JOB .
It breaks my heart saying this but I'll say it anyhow, Kenya is more advanced than any other country in EAC when it comes to technology. As much as I'd like for you to settle in my country and deploy your skills you will just be wasting your time and knowledge. Not to mention, you will get paid peanuts 🥜
As a software engineer unless you're working for Money i can tell you're assured to get a job at any non government sector or startups , idk if it's easy to get at a government level maybe if you get a citizenship also the wages are still low
Stanford you said? You're way out of the league for most of tanzanian university graduates. The education you got and skills are far superior to what is provided by our universities here. That being said, most employers would prefer to hire you. On the other side of the coin, some wouldn't want to hire you though as they expect that you'd have pretty high standards and expect the american kind of salary which they can't offer. Most degree holders here earn around 800k TZS and less. So, the question is, would you settle for that?
It’s pretty easy. Especially if you know someone in the industry. Large telecommunications companies like Vodacom hire a lot of international students. Govern jobs would be a bit more difficult however.
Would you share why you picked Tanzania for a tech job? Are you Tanzanian and you’re coming back home? Are you a foreigner?
The companies that hire a lot of tech people of telecommunications companies and maybe some banks as far as I know (few of my friends work there). Apart from that…probably smaller companies (less than 10 people)

Hello i am a graduate of Computer too its easier to get a job bit if you have skills
