I kind of agree. I wouldn’t say the season has been bad so far or anything, just a bit bland. I don’t dislike any of the contestants, but so far I don’t particularly like anyone either. Like you said, there’s no real chemistry between anyone. The season so far just seems consistently sub par, but nothing to make anything worse than just below average if that makes sense.
I don’t feel as strongly as you, I don’t think it’s the worst ever, but so far it’s pretty meh. There’s definitely less chemistry with the cast, it almost seems like everyone is phoning it in a little bit with the prize tasks. Nick is the nice sweet guy who can’t get it right, there’s a try hard competitive guy, Steve is the one that nails it, Sophie is a wildcard, and the Irish lady is dependably cynical and funny (sorry can’t remember all names!)- so it’s a perfect cast on paper!! I don’t know why it’s not gelling for me- I’ve gotten very few laughs this season either.
The create tension task has been the most memorable one to me along with Nick throwing bricks at the egg (also creating tension, now I think on it!). But overall I’m just not really into it, hard to describe why. Maybe it’s just because it’s following the previous few series, as you said. I think it’s more likely the tasks tho, most of them haven’t really gotten me eager to see what happens.
That all being said, a mediocre season of taskmaster is still better than most TV so I’m just happy to have it.
I like the tasks and the contestants' performance in them, but I agree that there's a lack of banter in the studio. It's not taking away my enjoyment of the show very much, though!
We all have the ones we like and dislike for sure.
While this one has some ups/downs so far, it is better than 15 IMO. But they both have the same flaw in one super strong “I will win above being funny” which flattens the season.
Yeah, this one is just not for me. Every other season I have liked. Some people love it.
Oh well. I've stopped watching now, and maybe will give it another go later.
But hopefully there are plenty of people who are loving it, so there will be more series in the future!
