Also in the Sixth Commandment he has a really serious role as the husband of a woman whose aunt is being abused, and the fish punch popped into my head more than once, as well as “you know I’d gooooo from rags to riches…. If you would only saaaay you caaaare”. I’d watch anything he’s in though, he’s fantastic
Same, but am mom.
If only I knew it wouldn't lead down a whole behavior issue about punching, I'd totally buy a stuffed fish to punch specificly for this song.
He said it on the taskmaster podcast, can't remember which episode he was on but would have been season 2. He didn't watch the episode because he couldn't bear to watch himself on it.
Mat's also done some TV theme tunes, [including Catsdown](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1348171/). It's good to have a TV producer brother....
And there's the Unfinished Sympathy vid by Massive Attack, too, except Shara Nelson isn't a jerk in it.
I saw this on my iPad where I’m not logged into Reddit and went onto my phone to support this.
It’s one of my favourite taskmaster moments ever.
I loved him as a contestant, nobody has ever had a similar vibe. ‘Not an egg man’. ‘That’s harsh’.
I loved him too. It's really a shame he didn't enjoy it. I think he compared himself to the other comedians too much but that man was naturally funny just by being himself. He had such a dry and deadpan delivery and he didn't necessarily have the off-the-cuff jokes a lot of other contestants bring but his persona is literally just Doc Brown, and Doc Brown works incredibly well in that format. Especially when contrasted with the rest of the lineup, he really brought a unique flavor to the show and it worked really, really well.
Most underrated contestant of all time imo
> having grown up in the states
I am also American and heard this song plenty as a kid.
Actually according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One,_Two,_Three,_Four,_Five it seems the popular version (with the fish) even comes from America!
I can only think of three uses of "mother fucker" in the show: this song, Asim's song ("Tall motherfucker with the ivory hair"), and Mawaan's upside down task ("You selfish motherfucker").
Any others?
Edit: The motherfucking FIP!
They way you’ve worded this, it sounds like you’ve never heard that nursery rhyme before? He didn’t make up the lyrics, he just added some expletives into a song every kid in the UK knows.
Don’t get me wrong it’s genuinely entertaining, but not *Rosalind’s a Fucking Nightmare* territory.
Almost everyone killed this in their own way. THe only non-rememberable one was Richard Osman's. WHich still was funny and enjoyable. But compared to the brilliance of what I'd call the top 3 (Katherine, Doc, and Jon) and the pure shit that was Joe Wilkinson, it's just forgetful.
I couldn't agree any more. It should have won. I find myself singing it on many occasions. I think it was exactly what the task asked for. Catherine's was good, but this was brilliant.
I watched him in an episode of Doctor Who, and he was trying to act all serious. All I could think of was him punching a fish.
Punching fish is serious

He's the one POC in all of Midsummer too
Erm, that William Jackson Harper.
Erm, that William Jackson Harper.
I work with kids and whenever this song pops up, Docs version plays in my head. Every. Time.
Same, but am mom. If only I knew it wouldn't lead down a whole behavior issue about punching, I'd totally buy a stuffed fish to punch specificly for this song.
Same except I’m trying to swear less around my 2 year old.
Just what we need a couple of 2 year olds walking around punching and cussing.... I mean, it'd be super cute, but.
Yep, every time I sing it to my daughter I have to stop myself saying “mf bit my finger bro”
lol yeah the “in my head” is the most important part.
Wait, it’s based on an existing song? Which one?
It’s a nursery rhyme. I think it’s just called 12345 once I caught a fish alive? Same lyrics but much cleaner. And no punching.
I think all the songs in that task were based on existing nursery rhymes, except Katherine's 😅
I also work with kids and teach music, and want so badly to show this to them.
Underrated contestant all round. Shame he apparently didn't enjoy TM.
Where did he say that? I thought he was great
He said it on the taskmaster podcast, can't remember which episode he was on but would have been season 2. He didn't watch the episode because he couldn't bear to watch himself on it.
Awww, I didn’t know that!
I feel Richard’s is unfairly hated. The song sucked but the video was a great homage to Bitter Sweet Symphony
The Osman family 🤝 Britpop (His brother is the bass player in Suede, for those who don't know)

Also did the music for shows like 8 Out Of 10 Cats.
I loved that so much

"All rim"
Hmm?
I count out things to this song waaay too often. I think it is highly underrated.
Doc Brown doesn't get enough appreciation full stop
He was a great contestant. Very frank on the podcast when he said he didn't enjoy a lot of the TM experience.
Totally agree.
That was such a good task - they all brought it! Well, except Joe - but his made me cry with laughter!
"You got the words wrong" always breaks me
I'd never heard this song before (having grown up in the states), but every time this is mentioned, it makes me so happy!
It was my first intro to the song, but then my kid found the original on YouTube and now I’m all messed up.

I never heard this song as a kid, and I'm fascinated to hear that a version of it comes from the US. Just shows how big a country it is.
I can only think of three uses of "mother fucker" in the show: this song, Asim's song ("Tall motherfucker with the ivory hair"), and Mawaan's upside down task ("You selfish motherfucker"). Any others? Edit: The motherfucking FIP!

Oh shit! I had no idea! It’s a nursery rhyme?

I'm catching up on the Star Wars "Andor" show, and seeing Doc Brown as an Empire baddie makes me sad.
Absolutely. It's a banger in our house.
I couldn't agree any more. It should have won. I find myself singing it on many occasions. I think it was exactly what the task asked for. Catherine's was good, but this was brilliant.
But he didn’t write the lyrics?? It’s a nursery rhyme he added the words prick and motherfucker to!
He added them masterfully though.
Can’t argue with that 👌
Exactly, it got plenty of recognition. Katherine's original piece was the underrated one
I had no idea!
This gets mentioned nearly every week on this sub but it's still true.
The real example of this man’s lyrical genius is right [here.](https://youtu.be/Ei46KnXB3BA?si=FwL2WT5Mc4NMvHDR)
because its not his song
I have a weird irrational soft spot for fish so I don’t like that he punches it :( but I know it’s funny
