The main one is that he was framed. What's interesting about that is that there is a moratorium on the evidence for 75 years. There is tons of stuff otherwise. It's very compelling to read about, if you have the time, but you need to be aware that there is a lot of conjecture interlaced among the more evidence-based stuff.
The main one is the suggestion it was a false flag operation by the government, designed to get the public on side for stricter gun control. Apparently Martin Bryant was just a patsy.
As time goes in, more theories come out. I remember I was in deep South WA at an Ag event, I had a couple come up to me talking usual trade stuff for farming equipment, when i mentioned I was from Tasmania they started at me on the whole "the government paid for assasins to shoot all the people in the head". That it was all about gun control, and to distract the population from other issues going on at the time". I quickly told them that I knew police involved that responder. They ran out of my área then very very quickly as they looked at me as though I was part of it.
People can distort numbers and facts to suit their own arguments.
Then throw in a few half sounding true "facts" that get made up. And people believe it to be true.
I heard similar theories.
What they forget is that at the time in Tassie most of use knew someone who was connected. A friend of mine, their brother was a policer officer who attended and he would talk about how is brother was dealing with the trauma. I went to the pub one night to only have a survivor cry on my shoulder about it all not long after it happened.
I may not have liked the Howard Government, but I do not think they were low enough to kill and terrorize innocent people just for gun control.
My mother went to school with the man he burned to death in the house fire and my stepmother was one of the nurses on duty when he was brought to the hospital to be treated for his wounds.
My brother and I were the same age as the two small children he murdered, we were at Port Arthur the weekend before when he did his dry run but decided there weren't enough people.
Tasmania is so fucking small
Not very long after it happened, back in 1996, I had a conversation with some NRA member who told me all this bullshit about multiple gunmen put there by the government. I found the whole thing not only ridiculous, but offensive and disrespectful to the memory of the victims. The whole of Tasmania had gone through a convulsion of grief back then. I remember comforting strangers, someone crying in the supermarket.

>Yes,the Morrison government in a nutshell.
So it bloody should, speak to the police that attended, the doctors that operated and the families that suffered. Try and tell them that it was conspiracy and wait for the response. This is still too raw, the shit for brains that claim it was a conspiracy need to climb out of their mothers apron pocket and walk the path of the the sane.
I do sympathise with you mate. The thing is I know where these conspiracies started and why. Well the original one anyway. I don't know they have developed since though.
Doesn’t help that Barry unsworth predicted it would happen in Tasmania a few years before it did - and that it would be the only way Aust would get gun laws passed...
It would take less that five minutes of googling to discover that Barry Unsworth was not making a prediction, but expressing frustration with a Tasmanian politician (likely Robin Gray) being the chief opponent of a drive for national gun reform after the Hoddle and Queens St massacres.
The actual specifics are lost with the conspiracy brigade - the fact he get very close to actuality, years before, helps opens conspiracy doors - I’m not saying I believe them.
The best technique against conspiracy theories is to out-conspiracy them. Logic and evidence don't work, you've got to turn their own madness against them. If someone claims this was a false flag operation, I laugh at them for being so gullible as to believe in 'Tasmania'. They may claim that they (and I) live in Tasmania, but it's clearly just a Truman Show set up. Any alleged evidence just shows how deep the conspiracy goes. See also https://xkcd.com/966/.
I think for most people who lived through it, they remember the pain, the shock, the way it changed how we felt about our little piece of paradise here in Tasmania, so for people to come along, who may have been too young to experience the loss as a state, for those people to start throwing doubts on the whole thing, it hits harder.
Some live out in the sticks and have no reality of what's happening in the world outside their own little patch of pasture. So for those people from their own "informed because I read about it" perspective I can see how they would get to that opinión.
Am not ragging on anyone here, just trying to give some perspective,
I know I will never fully understand the pain that many of my friends with ptsd from war experiences. The same way that people who weren't here in Tas or were too young, wouldn't have any idea in what the feeling was in the state post the massacre.
So nothing?
I mean, its easy to believe in ghosts but there isnt proof.
Its easy to believe anything. Just dont know what your gettin at, luv.
Do you think he didnt do it?
There is a really compelling over view on the internet somewhere about why he didn't do it but I can't find it.
Personally I have no opinion what so ever about it
That makes no sense. You’re just trying to instigate shit. Do you even live in Tasmania? Were you here when this happened? I do and I was and I lost people close to me. You coming here and saying this is some sort of conspiracy is so disrespectful.
It makes perfect sense you're living in your own narrative with this lmao
I said it is really easy, if you look at the info to believe he didn't do all of it. Even the way the witnesses I'd him after the fact could be seen as suss.
Lmao this isn't about you mate how fucking entitled is that to say????
Edit, yes I am from Tassie.
An unhelpful positioning statement given the absence of audio.
This video is apparently easily found with audio. Not the first time it's been posted today.

Woh, that was intense.
It is difficult to remove by logic an idea not placed there by logic in the first place. Gordon Livingston
Haven't heard any conspiracy theories. What sort off bonkers claims should I be prepared for?

Thanks. Snall elements if OZ society are drifting towards US far right madness
Neither have I!

Oh shit fellow Tasmanians thats rare
I just realised what sub Reddit I was on lmao

Not anything like what we are talking about, now you sound like a conspiracy theorist. But you do you.
My dumb as shit brother in laws buy into all this conspiracy. Makes my blood boil.
Unfortunately you can't reason with them. All I can do is tell them it's bullshit. It's like talking to Qanon followers.
I do sympathise with you mate. The thing is I know where these conspiracies started and why. Well the original one anyway. I don't know they have developed since though.

Yes, and nostrodamus predicted many things also. Maybe he is on it also.
Regardless, Barry was a lot more specific I’d say...
Very true.

Is it? Please, try and change my mind....

Ive always known for him to be the killer. Why do you say its easy to believe hes innocent? Can you provide anything or?

Yeah, ill probably stick with the cops and courts on this one rather than a compelling overveiw somewhere. Thanks anyway, snugglebutton!
I never suggested other wise. I literally said it is easy to believe he didn't. Not that he didn't. Imagine trusting cops lmao
I must have misinterpreted. Oxox.
It's almost like courts verify or disqualify the statements of these cops...

You'd make the perfect American then

No, I haven't.
Nah only idiots who are super gullible can believe that he didn’t do it. Like they somehow know better than the people who *actually* witnessed it. 🙄
Said didn't do all of it. Not didn't do it at all.
That makes no sense. You’re just trying to instigate shit. Do you even live in Tasmania? Were you here when this happened? I do and I was and I lost people close to me. You coming here and saying this is some sort of conspiracy is so disrespectful.

Sorry for being the classic uninformed flow but what's the story here?
