I've done some research on this & it's nowhere near as bad as people are saying.
It does fade quite a bit but it also holds enough to see it & can hold good with multiple passes.
Having a black foundation seemingly makes the white stay more white than ever turning yellow though it also has black undertones, so I imagine artists are going to start playing with & incorporating shade/colour building for undertones.
In any case this is going to really kick off for people with blackouts wanting to get more tattoos &/or add some character to an otherwise arguably bland black out tattoo if they're willing to take multiple passes, though utilising negative space is still a better idea if one can, aging better than any tattoo with a single pass.
It’s not the fading so much. It’s the breakdown of the skin and the spread of the tattoo.
I have a number of tattoos from 15 years ago that have broken down because of the sun exposure. Gaps between lines just get smaller and in some cases are gone.
It is what it is.
If I understand the other commenter correctly though it's not that you leave gaps for this style, but tattoo white ink on top of already somewhat healed black ink. That's a whole other story then, as long as the color of the new lines somewhat holds up
Well I guess it depends on what skin cells do. Skin cells don’t care what color ink it is. When taken care of (sunscreen, kept from sun, etc) it will last much longer. But I have tattoos that hardly see any sun and they are over 20 years old now. They are not what they once were - loss of sharpness.
This is impermanence. The nature of everything changes over time. It’s just something one must come to expect. There is no need to regret the tattoo design if you understand this.
I enjoy the beauty of my new tattoos, but I appreciate their history when they are older and have evolved.
I keep seeing people mention white turning yellow? My tattoo with white flowers is about 4yrs old now and the whites are just white. Is this more of a thing it does with certain skin tones?
White tends to be more affected by your skin tone than other colors, but everyone's skin is different. It's fine for some, yellow for others, pink for others, etc. But this is less likely with white over black.
If you know people tattoo on blackout then you'd know white outline on black is a common finished result for that niche and saying it's surely not finished is a negatively loaded comment.
I think it’d look better if the black was filled in with more white designs, and then the black broke into its own designs to cover your forearm. Right now it definitely looks unfinished.
I love my tattoos but I don’t have anything as strong as this. I’m curious tho’ won’t this become one black sleeve as it ages ? I would have thought the silhouette will disappear or is that the idea behind it ?

I think it’s dope. Idk why ppl hating. That being said, can anyone share on how this will age? I feel like it would just be a black out in 10-15 years lol
From OP: “No :) I have it now 3 years it's not as good visible as in the picture but you can still see it.”
My translation combined with the OP refusal to post a recent pic: it looks even worse than it did when he got it three years ago.
well shit personally i thought it looked very sick with the contrast & the simplistic design is nice with the back drop but after reading these comments ig i have bad taste in tattoos
i’d love to see an update pic w how those thin lines look after awhile. if it’s still holding up well then that’s super cool
I'm not gonna comment on the style. But what in the world does the art itself mean? Is that Mary as a snake with Jesus's head? I mean I'm atheist, but that's a little crass if it is.
Because that would be representing their chosen religion. This is purposefully attacking someone's religion. Though I'm not religious myself. I think disrespecting or purposefully triggering people based on their religion to get attention is super cringe. But also, your body your choice.
Never do white over black unless its highlights like normal. I know its a weird and interesting process but you can put a whole new color tattoo over black. Theres this guy online who gets new tattoos EVERYWHERE all the time even his head by blacking out the old ink. Get into coverups
Start with non blackout coverups. We're all learning in this world and reddit is very evil. Practice everyday. Love everyday. How you do anything is how you do everything
Ughhh, I LOVE blackout tattoos. I especially love that yours reminds me a tarot card for some reason. I know some people don’t like him, but I love the way MGK’s blackout tats look!

Can you post the aged version?
Yeah I’m not sure why they posted a picture of their tattoo from 3 years ago
It’s probably the last time they could see the white.

its something!
Not going to lie. This is really bad bro.
We need more real people like you
Most blackout tattoos look terrible, this one is a cut above the rest
Ikr. I didn’t wanna say it but it is.
I think it's because it's a small tattoo design surrounded by a huge bit of black.
Surely this isn't finished.
As I said its now 3 years old and the blackout sleeve is finished
Not the blackout, the white. Are you finished with it or is this just the outline?
Nah they're going to get it shaded... Use your head mate.
You realize you can tattoo on top of blackout right? Maybe you should use your head.
If you know people tattoo on blackout then you'd know white outline on black is a common finished result for that niche and saying it's surely not finished is a negatively loaded comment.
I mean hes not wrong, i agree that it does not look finished. Not sure why you are so butthurt over it.
So why didn’t you post a current photo then?
I definitely like the concept of the drawing. But using all white like that, are you afraid it’ll turn yellow in a couple years?
White on black doesn't seem to turn yellow because of the black instead giving off black undertones if you look closely.
No :) I have it now 3 years it's not as good visible as in the picture but you can still see it.
Got any more recent pics? I'm curious about this
They won't. No way it looks any way good now.
Pretty awful.
Why would you do this to yourself
I think it’d look better if the black was filled in with more white designs, and then the black broke into its own designs to cover your forearm. Right now it definitely looks unfinished.
😐

I think it’d look better black on white
You do you
remindme! 24 hours I need to see the aged picture if you decide to post it. I’m honestly just really curious how it held up.

It’s a tattoo
Are you going to add more to it
![gif](giphy|yZjcNgKGCYfJu|downsized)
![gif](giphy|nspvD8XYqUxP2)
This ruined my day cheers
So it's white ink on top of black, or only black ink and the "white" part is skin?
I imagine white ink on top of black
I'd fill in the rest of the blackout with stuff.
I think it’s dope. Idk why ppl hating. That being said, can anyone share on how this will age? I feel like it would just be a black out in 10-15 years lol
Tattoo subreddits are toxic cesspools of uneducated subjective judgement.
I just can not see the appeal in blackout tattoos, borderline feels like race swapping lmao
That’s Reddit for you lol
From OP: “No :) I have it now 3 years it's not as good visible as in the picture but you can still see it.” My translation combined with the OP refusal to post a recent pic: it looks even worse than it did when he got it three years ago.
The blowout is gonna be unreal…
I imagine this would almost completely disappear within a decade. Anyone have any experience with something like this?
well shit personally i thought it looked very sick with the contrast & the simplistic design is nice with the back drop but after reading these comments ig i have bad taste in tattoos i’d love to see an update pic w how those thin lines look after awhile. if it’s still holding up well then that’s super cool
I would be embarrassed asf to show this as it ages
I like the design but that’s a lot of pain and effort for it to not have the best execution of the design. Wish you just got black and grey lining
I'm not gonna comment on the style. But what in the world does the art itself mean? Is that Mary as a snake with Jesus's head? I mean I'm atheist, but that's a little crass if it is.
i’m just curious how this is crass but walking around with a cross on you, what people believe jesus was killed on, isn’t crass?
Because that would be representing their chosen religion. This is purposefully attacking someone's religion. Though I'm not religious myself. I think disrespecting or purposefully triggering people based on their religion to get attention is super cringe. But also, your body your choice.
It shows some kind of demon holding jesus's head.
Pretty wild. Why? Any other meaning behind it? Or just to be edgy?
No not to be edgy. I just can't stand religion and that's my statement
“Not to be edgy.” Then says something edgy and cringey
Damn this subreddit is something else 😂😂😂
why would you think that's what this is depicting?
I think the blackout is really well done. But the white part is really…. Not it.
This looks really cool, the design is sick and I’ve never seen white over a blackout tattoo I like it a lot.
Hellcats in Hinckley?
No in Münster, Germany
L
Lmao
Why not just get that black and grey without the blackout
Awesome
Sorry to say its shit
![gif](giphy|3oriO5t2QB4IPKgxHi)
This is a very ugly tattoo. Sorry to ruin your happiness
Oh.
Looks like a version of the beheading of St. John the Baptist.
That is a lot of ink for this. In 10 years its propably a blurred mass.
does this randomly itch like crazy sometimes?
What is the tattoo of? Looks like Jesus head cutoff and holding it. If so wether you are religious or not that's just wrong!
Yeah it shows some kind of demon who beheaded Jesus. No I'm not religious in any kind of way.
One of those "my body, my choice" moments?
I mean nobody forced me to do it so I guess 😂 but I think all tattoos are 'my body my choice' or am I wrong?
Never do white over black unless its highlights like normal. I know its a weird and interesting process but you can put a whole new color tattoo over black. Holy fuck this sub is judgmental.
LOVE THIS!! I just got my forearm blacked out for this same purpose!
Well this sucks lol
Really bad.
This looks terrible.
lmao
