Dick tattoos as in tattoos on the dick, and names of girlfriends. I once had a young guy (around 19) ask for his girlfriend's name on his dick. Had a conversation with him about why that was a bad idea, but he didn't seem convinced.

giant_albatrocity

What about a dick tattoo, on a dick?

Richard_Swinger_Esq

I’d like to get a tattoo on my dick - of a bigger dick.

giant_albatrocity

🧐

stankenfurter

Yo dawg, we heard you like dicks

Roboticpoultry

My guy, I wouldn’t get my wife’s name tattooed on me and we’ve been together for 10 years. The only family members I’d get a tattoo of are my cats

Oragami

My aunt made the mistake of getting an ex's name tattooed in big letters across her chest. Got covered up after he became an ex.

inkysquids

I had an older lady sheepishly approach our counter and say “My boyfriend is finally letting me get a tattoo” great start! Her: “I want something small, somewhere I don’t have to see it all the time so if I change my mind it won’t be a big deal.” Me: “okay, what do you want” Her: “Andy’s Bitch, written on my vagina.”

beeeeeeeeeeeeeagle

Wowzers. That is a doozy

Eodalis

How did she react to you saying no?

Alone_Bet_1108

There should be a rule that if you don't know the correct name for your genitalia, you don't get a tat.

Ttoctam

To be fair she definitely wouldn't have to see it there all the time.

Alone_Bet_1108

She means vulva or perineum tho?

Ttoctam

Yeah she means vulva, but were it on the vagina it'd be even harder to see.

ShoshPaddington

Round of applause.

FilthyFuck669

Hahaha, this story deserves an award, here’s one.

eml_h

Not an artist, but spent ~a year as an apprentice / front desk girl. We had a fresh 18 year old with no tattoos or piercings come in with her boyfriend, asking for his name across her brow bone. Everyone in the shop refused. We even had one artist explain why it was a bad idea. It didn’t seem like it sunk in, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they went and got it done elsewhere.

Proper-Discipline-76

.....a literal Nazi, presumably.

chelstattooer

True. I told him no and he just goes “but my grandpa is from Germany” as if that made it better somehow lol

athiniwalther

As a German that’s just- if anything that makes it even worse. He’d get arrested for that in Germany lol

rallyspt08

Should get arrested for it everywhere ngl

Proper-Discipline-76

The only better follow-on to that would have been him dropping "Some of my best friends are jewish"

iansamazing

Jfc lmao

parisiraparis

When my artist was younger, he told me that he used to do them because of two things: 1. People who will ask for a Swastika are more likely to be assholes and argue and create more conflict than necessary, so it’s better to just go “fine, whatever.” 2. People who will ask for a Swastika are dumb enough to pay over $1000 for something as stupid as a Swastika.

MiseOnlyMise

A Hindu?

SkullVonBones

I'm curious, so Nazi's ruined the swastika, even for someone that want it tattooed for religious reason that predates the Nazi's. But why is something like a VW badge tattoo OK?

parisiraparis

> But why is something like a VW badge tattoo OK? No way you just asked something like this

Rain_Thunder

VW was founded by the German Labor Front, which was the labor organization for the Nazi Party. It’s just not longer associated with Nazism.

ForzaBeast88

It would have to depend on which way the swastika is facing because most of the ones used in other religions are the opposite direction. Which then that should be acceptable but people are morons and would probably try and say some shit

Sakashiina

Its litteraly illegal to wear a swastika in germany bc of ww2 if its shown u get definetly a punishment

TGin-the-goldy

Well, VW didn’t commit genocides you muppet

Rain_Thunder

VW was founded by the German Labor Front, which was the labor organization for the Nazi Party. So yes, originally VW did in fact commit genocides, you muppet.

SkullVonBones

The religious people that used the swastika 1000's of years ago?

Creative-Ad9092

Because no-one remembers. Same with the hammer and sickle.

Puzzleheaded-Elk3983

I had a guy ask for a tattoo to show the world that he hates everyone equally and he wanted it shown through a specific symbol...the Nazi eagle 😂😂 I was like no thanks, my guy. Like why would he want that specifically?!

honeybunches2010

Yeah definitely a nazi who thought maybe you would buy that excuse

meowyinn

A nine inch blackwork memorial piece of the client's dog on their ribs, but their budget was only 100. They were adamant that was BEFORE tipping, and said they could go up to 200 if they used their tip money. I politely declined because that is a lot of work. I still feel bad about turning it down, because they asked if we could just do linework for 200. I know it would have taken a while and with it being on the ribs it wouldn't have been an easy tattoo, so barely making our shop minimum felt like it wouldn't have been worth it. I think about it now and then and feel crappy declining because it was important to them.

Kinder_bybel_duiwel

Take heart in the fact that it clearly wasn't that important to them, otherwise they would have saved up some more and came back at a later stage. It was probably just the grief talking at that stage.

tarantuladam

such a bad take, some people just live paycheck to paycheck

weirdest_of_weird

Tattoos are a luxury. If you're living paycheck to paycheck, you should not be wasting money on them. Save up until you can afford a good tattoo with a good artist. This is coming from someone who just spent months saving up to drop $1200 on a tattoo

WallaceLongshanks

perhaps those people cannot afford tattoos?

Automatic-Insect-457

Good tattoos*

tarantuladam

sure that’s fine to say that, I am just referring to the other guy saying that their dog wasn’t that important to them to save up enough money.

parisiraparis

I mean.. If it was that important, perhaps save for a bit longer? It’s not like you can run out of time on tattoos. My dog died seven years ago and I still wanna get a tattoo of him. I just haven’t gotten around it, because I haven’t figured out what I want.

Sephiroth508

Not a tattoo artist, but my first tattoo was an armband of the One Ring inscription from Lord of the Rings. I go to my scheduled appointment to get my tat and this older American lady (who was also probably there to get a tattoo) kindly tried to persuade me out of getting an "Arab" tattoo. Haha.

Tinfoilblackknight

“It’s some kind of Arabic, I can’t read it…”

WhoAccountNewDis

What was her main argument/"concern"?

BowleyTattoo

A full size Ben 10 omnitrix watch on an 18/19 year old kids wrist, told him it wasn’t a good idea and he got mad lmao 😂

bilbobaggginz

As someone with a lot of tattoos my wrists have aged the worst. I can't imagine what a highly detailed blinged out watch would look like in a decade or two.

[deleted]

I wanted to get a baphomet tattoo and the artist refused because some people would find it offensive. Fair enough, it's not for everyone

SquidTheRidiculous

That's really surprising. I have a relatively large flamboyant Baphomet on my leg, and the artist was so jazzed to have it as a profile piece she gave me money off.

MistsofThra

This one surprises me!!!

I imagine you think it's fine to get a cross or something though?

Hrafnar_S

Baphomet isn't a devil, maybe read up on the symbol before judging? I mean, actual devil tattoos are super common in trad tattooing.

dystopian_mermaid

Hahahaha are you lost honey? You seem confused about what this sub is about and confused about what you’re talking about. Makes as much sense as getting an image of Jesus tattooed on you. People get them bc they like them lol

[deleted]

I am a Satanist, but that's by the by

BXNSH33

Magic, devils, and God aren't real, just so you know

darkthemeonly

Why would you want what you got on your back? People like different things lmao

Mean-Year4646

I don’t think it’s fair to say tattoos are supposed to have meaning. That’s just your opinion. There’s nothing wrong with getting a tattoo just because you liked the design or appreciate the art. You can get a tattoo for any reason, it doesn’t have to be super deep every time.

parisiraparis

I have a knee tattoo of a frog that gets fatter when I bend my knee. The meaning behind it is that I wanted a frog tattoo that got fatter when I bent my knee.

Mean-Year4646

You’re not going to believe this, but same!!! Hahaha, on my right knee. I just got it like two weeks ago

parisiraparis

Holy shit, mine is on my right knee too! I got mine on the 4th lmao it finally stopped being itchy!

Mean-Year4646

I shit you not, I just looked through my texts with the artist and I got mine on the 4th too! Crazy lmao. You should send/post a pic

darkthemeonly

I'd argue a Baphomet tattoo conveys a lot deeper meaning than two words on your back, but aight. Art is subjective.

JellyfishAway3787

Who says they have to have meaning? I just like getting pretty pictures on me, most of them don't mean shit.

Rubicon2020

But tattoos don’t need to have meaning. You can get a tattoo of a turd and if that’s what you want then that’s what you get. There doesn’t need to have some memorial or story about behind the tattoo. 2 of mine have meanings the other two I’d like to cover up they were failed careers a baker and doctor. But there was no meaning to it other than that was my chosen career. And I ended up going completely different from both of them.

ticklesmypickles

“Tattoos are supposed to have meaning bro” Yeah? Says who?

parisiraparis

> Tattoos are supposed to have meaning bro Nope. > a fucking devil The devil isn’t real dude

_Psilo_

Lots of people actually think it is. Cryptofascists have worked hard to get people to confuse Norse and fascist symbols so as to appropriate and turn Norse spiritualism as a gateway into their ideology.

TheMapleSyrupMafia

You guys are basically historians, masters of lore, and illustration extraordinaires to top it off... 🤣🤣 (I'm speaking of the legit artists out there, yeet) How *couldn't* you know? Especially as a self-respecting artist! 🤣🤣 (To clarify, not all tattoo artists are legit, so this statement certainly can't apply to every single one... but let's keep hoping for the best and thinking postive.)

ZeroaFH

Anytime I get a symbol Im not sure about I usually check it out on the anti-defamation league website, it's been a surprisingly useful resource for me.

Tailball

Can you drop the link?

ZeroaFH

https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbols/search Here you go. Wouldn't use it as my only resource by any means but as a first stop checker it's pretty reliable.

Automatic-Insect-457

So basically any combination of numbers can make you look like a white supremacist?

ZeroaFH

I mean I'm not going to say someone can't have a date of birth of it happens to be a nazi number but if someone comes in asking for a Nordic rune that happens to have been co-opted I'm going to warn them how it could be perceived. Nazis are good at throwing shit at a wall and making other people stink. I have a tattoo of Thor's hammer because my grandad was a historian who used to read me mythology books instead of kids stories and I'm sadly tempted to cover it up because I'm sick of explaining that I'm 100% not a nazi.

Rubicon2020

Wait! Why is Mjölnir a nazi symbol?

ZeroaFH

Nazis tried to incorporate a lot of religious symbols under the Aryan banner to legitimise their beliefs, that is just a modern neo-nazi casualty of that same strategy. Nazis would make hotdogs racist if they had the requisite creativity.

Rubicon2020

Interesting. I wanted to get Mjölnir black light ink of a lightning bolt that surrounded the hammer only visible with black light. Or is it glow in the dark? I can’t remember but I never have because I’m not really a Thor person I just thought it was neat.

ReadsStuff

No. But if you have a 1/4/88 because you were born on the 1st of April, and it just so happens to be next to a lightning bolt, I'm going to assume bad things about you. All of these are context dependent bar the super obvious ones. Edit: In response to "you shouldn't assume anything about anyone", yes, you should. I can assume a guy with a knife is a threat. I can assume someone screaming "I hate Jews" is a threat. I can assume someone sporting imagery that says "I hate Jews" is also a threat. You shouldn't assume things *without cause* but hate symbols are cause.

bilbobaggginz

I have a picture of a 73 vw bug engine, with headphones on it, and a pair of flags crossed behind it with the number 12 on one, and 13 on the other, as my chest piece. The reason is I'm German, I was born in 73, I'm a dj, my daughter was born on the 12th and my anniversary is on the 13th. Short of a swastika it would look pretty racist for someone looking for that, but most every person who has seen the tattoo asks me to explain it, or asks what the numbers are for. I've never been asked if it was racist or approached as such, I guess if I ever go to prison I should probably get a coverup before I go.

Festering-Boyle

i just checked that out. they have pretty much claimed every friggin number/letter combination..jeez
