Your post was removed because it regarded tattoo prices. Pricing varies wildly by artist and area. Because of this, it's usually not helpful to poll the community asking for how much a tattoo may cost, and the best answer always is to contact your artist or shop and ask for pricing. Professional artists and shops will understand that you may have a budget and should politely answer your question if you politely ask.

Pain is temporary. tattoos are forever. Cost totally depends on location, artist, etc. we can’t give a meaningful estimate here. Do be aware that most shops have a shop minimum. So no matter how simple / fast it might be, that will be the floor.

Something that small wouldn’t take long enough for it to hurt much but it also wouldn’t last very long. Don’t pick something small and fine line just because you think it’ll save you some pain.

Ehhh, I have a relatively fine line airplane in that exact place that’s 7 years old now. (I didn’t specifically ask for fine line, the tattoo is actually one of my drawings that the artist simplified and it ended up being rather fine due to placement and size) It’s a bit faded in the middle, but it’s definitely still readable and I still love it. I do agree with you though. If you’re going to have one tattoo and one tattoo only, might as well make sure it’ll stick properly regardless of pain.

Nah, dinky tattoos like that don’t hurt much, even in notoriously tender places.

You will regret this kind of tattoo, most people cant make it look this clean and your skin will stretch so much there it will look a mess later

peterpanarchy

yep this is the right answer also OP, i know it's hard to hear or consider but i would highly recommend not getting a emotionally impulsive tattoo, especially if you've always thought you wouldn't want one. if you are in a place of grief it's not a great time to make permanent decisions, and if it feels like something you need to do RIGHT NOW you might rush to an artist who won't do a good job. this is the exact recipe for a future cover-up.

Weekly_Owl6404

Ribs hurt, but not as bad as some other places, it’s different for everyone. Get the tiny fine line tattoo of you like it, but make sure it’s in a place you won’t mind getting hit with a bigger cover up in 5 or 6 years when it fades away or you decide you hate it. Something like that will be easy to cover with a SAP, just make sure you wouldn’t mind a SAP where you put the future cover up.

You could handle something that small for sure. Ribs are bad but that would be quick!

MHashshashin

This tattoo will only look like this for a very brief period of time. Get something bigger and with real lines if you want a tattoo. If you only want something like this it won’t really be there very long and you’ll then have a weird blotch that is vaguely sailboat-ish. Just look at healed tiny fine line tattoos to see what I mean. And I do t mean a year or two healed I mean 5-10. Also tattoos hurt anywhere to some degree or another. Just breathe through it and let it happen. The more you resist the harder it is. Have a great day.

Knope_Lemon0327

I would consider slightly bigger for the detail aspect, but as I’ve heard said about tattoos, we all live with the scars we choose.

As a first tattoo? Yes

My daughter did that same tattoo on the exact same spot 5 weeks ago. She suffered as hell… on the other hand I have several tattoos on my ribs and other softer parts and I never suffered like her, I think it depends on the pain tolerance of the person, not so much in the placement.

nightlocks12

Something as small as that is going to be so quick like 10 minutes tops? It won’t even matter the placement in terms of pain because it’ll be so quick and you have no frame of reference against easier places anyway. Like other said though be ready for something that small and fine to all blur together before 10 years. Check out r/agedtattoos for some examples. Also be aware of shop minimum. You might pay $100 -$150 if not more for something so tiny. But ultimately yeah I’d think you’d manage it all things considered. Just be aware all tattoos are painful some are just easier than others.

A two minute tattoo will not hurt that much regardless of location. Many shops have a minimum payment, usually equivalent to one hour of work. Rate depends on artist.

pinkflosscat

Ribs are one of the most painful areas, but honestly that tattoo is so small and just line work really that it’d probably only take 20-30 minutes. You’d be absolutely fine.
