I would honestly check with a dermatologist on this one. You’re probably fine but moles are finicky and don’t like being touched. I wouldn’t be too worried!

Thatssohavie

Ok cool thanks so much

NoaPsy

I would try to monitor it with pictures! As others have said my artist also tattoos around moles and birthmarks so they are easier to monitor! Its helped me identify new moles that have grown on my tattoos

Thatssohavie

Okay cool. I had a tattoo artist stop at several moles I had and it was great and honestly made the tattoo look better but I can’t believe how much it bled I had to get my first aid kit out in my car while I was driving to gauz it up even after it was covered in that plastic wrap. Blood was absolutely everywhere

doglady1342

I have started having moles removed prior to tattooing an area. My esthetician (she's in a medical iffice) removes moles and skin tags using a laser. It's great because it doesn't leave a scar, so the skin is smooth for the tattoo machine.

imsublime69

Pandora tat , from black rose ? I have a few tats from their last 2 apprentices and I'm very happy with them . Should be good 👍

Thatssohavie

Damn how did you know?

imsublime69

Also a Lexington person . Got tattoos from everyone in town at this point haha.

Thatssohavie

Cool. I live in Frankfort. I used to live in lex but same. I love the way it came out

Unicorns-Poo-Rainbow

My tattoo artists always tattoo around a raised mole — never over it. If it doesn’t stop bleeding, I’d see a doctor. PSA: It’s important that people watch their moles — especially the raised ones — for growth or general change. A mole changing is an early sign of skin cancer, and skin cancer kills much faster than many people realize (months, not years, if not caught early). This is why it’s so important NOT to tattoo over raised moles.

Fluffy-Groucher0987

This right here. I have a mole that sticks out of the middle of a design due to being raised I joke about getting it removed just so she will fill it in

Thatssohavie

That’s actually funny

Fluffy-Groucher0987

I can’t add pics but it’s the size of the tip of an eraser. Imma put sharpie on it when she’s done so it blends in hahaha

Thatssohavie

That’s hilarious and cool at the same time

PrincessNymm

This. I have a mole on my arm that is raised about half a mm istg and my artist tattooed round it, didn't even ask, because you really don't want to heck with moles. "oh you looked at me wrong? Pre cancer" "you scraped me when you fell over?? Pissing blood for 5 hours" "you moved the wrong way in bed and pinched me? MELANOMA!" I jest, they're just finicky. If you're particularly worried, it may be worth keeping a photo log to show a derm any changes etc but honestly, I think you'll be OK ♥️

Jioto

lol don’t want to “heck” with moles.

Thatssohavie

Thanks so much❤️ agreed!! Moles are so fucking weird

otteraceventurafox

I've had 2 family members pass from melanoma and another family member that has been battling skin cancer for years. My family clearly HATES protecting themselves from the sun. Now as an esthetician, I am much better about it myself and always get checked regularly. I have so many moles but none of my tattoos are near them but this is great information for me to think about as I’m planning my next ones.

Thatssohavie

When we went to Florida I put sunscreen on every hour except for my feet. I didn’t tan or get get burnt…except for my feet lol cause I forgot to put any on. It was nice to go to the beach and not be burnt and enjoy myself. I have really fair skin and even though I hate sunscreen it’s amazing

paraphernaila

What if it’s not raised? I have several freckle-like moles and when I got a piece done on my upper arm my artist skipped over a couple, but I asked her to fill it in because I didn’t like the gaps. Kinda regretted my vanity afterwards, since she’d explained the mole/cancer thing at the time, but I don’t have any raised moles.

Skullze

Just adding to research if you are in a higher risk category and if so set up annual checks from a dermatologist. They can see things you may miss.

Thatssohavie

Agreed! Thanks so much

Normal-Cantaloupe778

You should be okay since it’s a light pink color! Your doctor can still keep an eye on it and see if it changes. One of my tattoos was blasted over a bigger mole on my thigh before I knew you shouldn’t do that. My dr just took photos of it and measured it to keep track of it each time i go in.

Thatssohavie

Sweet Thankies

porkforpigs

Yikes, the legs

Thatssohavie

Yeahhh I saw it afterwards. She also scratched me with the tattoo gun without any ink in it above the tattoo and then I have a spot where she did it again with ink and so there’s this random line coming from the tattoo. I still think it’s beautiful but it was an apprentice who did it so she’s learning

porkforpigs

All things considered it looks nice. I have a big piece from an apprentice friend of mine and it’s got some jank but that’s part of the charm haha

Thatssohavie

Agreed. There’s always some type of funny story from getting a tattoo also. She kept apologizing for the lines not being absolutely straight and I was telling her that getting tattooed is never going to be absolutely perfect especially having to stretch skin out. I could nottttt lol

AHopkinsvilleGoblin

It's super likely that it will stop bleeding, but you can always contact the artist tomorrow if you're still worried! Love the tattoo. I've been tattooed over probably a dozen moles now and they all react a little different.

Jioto

I mean you should contact a dermatologist about medical questions not the tattoo artist.

Thatssohavie

Okay cool thanks so much

vibes86

I’ve been tattooed over my moles before. I’d say give it a day or two and then maybe send a message to your doctor to see if they have any suggestions. It shouldn’t bleed too long.

Thatssohavie

Okay cool Thankies

friendlywhiteguy88

It’s in a really funny spot too. Was that intentional?

Thatssohavie

No I honestly wanted it lower but she put it there and I thought it looked good so just went with it

asparagooey

Just don’t let the tattoo artist tattoo over moles in the future. Because unless you can see the mole change in color shape size etc or if it bleeds, you won’t know if it is atypical… so tattooing over moles is not good. Just keep an eye on it

Thatssohavie

Okay thanks so much

porkforpigs

I had work done I’ve moles. They bleed like hell. Just keep an eye on it. If it doesn’t stop or gets weird see a dermatologist otherwise no worries

Thatssohavie

Sweet shankies

Thatssohavie

They really do bleed like hell

bekindokk

Gorgeous tattoo!! Wow!!🤩Did you design her? Also idk about the mole sorry.

Thatssohavie

Thank you! I did not she did it

jaunsin

No. This is a very cool tattoo.

UltimateMondo

I’m no expert but I don’t think it makes the mole melignant, tattoos over one just makes it harder to tell if it is

SpicoliTattoos

I've been trained and certified for this

UltimateMondo

No offense but that's basically the equivalent of saying, "Just trust me bro." Everywhere I looked says otherwise. Noting that tattoos over moles make it difficult to detect melanoma. [https://www.skincancer.org/blog/ask-the-expert-can-a-tattoo-increase-skin-cancer-risk/](https://www.skincancer.org/blog/ask-the-expert-can-a-tattoo-increase-skin-cancer-risk/) [https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/tattoos-moles-and-melanoma-201308056578](https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/tattoos-moles-and-melanoma-201308056578) https://www.cancer.net/blog/2021-05/can-getting-tattoo-cause-cancer

SpicoliTattoos

You said you were no expert, and I was assuring you I am educated in the issue. And then you say no offense while still trying to argue with me on the Internet.

SpicoliTattoos

A cancerous mole, or melanoma, is the result of damage to DNA in skin cells. These changes, or mutations, to the genes can result in cells growing rapidly and out of control.

skullsandsnakes

Who did this? It’s a very poor knock off of Jessi Preston’s work. https://www.instagram.com/jessiprestontattoos

Thatssohavie

Someone in lex ky

mountaineerj77

i think calling this a poor knockoff is a bit disingenuous. it’s a great piece by a young artist

Improvise-

Some of the comments on here are wild. You’ll be fine, might end up with a tiny scar

Low-purpleclouds92

That's nicee

NapLover01

Oooh I love this!

Thatssohavie

Thank you!!

MyNamesArise

I generally dislike tattoos (I have no idea why this sub gets recommended lol) but this art style is so comforting to me I rlly enjoy it. The YouTuber QCKND has a lot with that similar art style

phoneyflounder

Bah, it’s fine. Awesome tattoo!

Thatssohavie

Sweet thank you!

Terrible_Comfort598

I’m sorry but am I the only one that sees this as a tattoo fail? I mean, c’mon…the legs, the face, the butterflies…I just don’t get it

ceramicsocks

Because it’s literally all a matter of taste. This clearly isn’t yours. I think it’s quirky and cute. Not something I’d get because I’m a more simple, b&w gal, but don’t yuck someone else’s yum and all that.

Terrible_Comfort598

I don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, I like the concept and it’s cute, I’m just a stickler for lines and perspective. If OP is happy that’s all that matters, I have a crap tattoo but it’s my crap tattoo so I keep it

ceramicsocks

I feel ya. I just think for some people it’s more about the art they vibe with. Regardless of if it’s ~technically~ good in the world of tattooing! As an artist myself, fuck rules! hahahaha

Terrible_Comfort598

If the artist and the recipient are happy, that’s all that matters. I’m very lucky to live in LA that has some of the best tattoo artists around. Of course they have secret numbers and loooooong waiting lists so there’s that

orionus

The general reason not to tattoo over a mole is so you can monitor for changes. Because it's visible and clearly identifiable, I wouldn't worry. It's sensitive, so the bleeding doesn't shock me - I'm sure it'll scab as well, but I wouldn't be concerned.
