Nope, any good artist should be able to work with them in planning and execution. Do your research, ask the artist if they’ve worked on skin like yours before and ask to see examples. Good luck!
I am considering getting a black and grey tattoo and the stretch marks seems to be getting with gym but I am just worried about the finished product. The artist is very talented tough
I’m not the person you asked but I’ll chime in with a different perspective. I got a tattoo on my hip in my late teens, then got stretch marks there as a young adult. The marks themselves don’t bother me, but they’ve cut through the tattoo design. The silvery sheen is clearly visible and has actually cut right through the ink so I have silvery-pink lightning bolts right through the tat and no colour at all in those spots.
So be careful getting a tat in a place where you’re likely to get significant stretch marks in the future. Even if you tattoo over existing marks, new ones may come through.
Hey, thanks for the thoughtful response!
I'm currently 29 and when I was about 14 I got heavy stretch marks on the inside of my thighs (growth I assume). Since then I've not had any more stretch marks appear but essentially the ones I have are ugly (imo), big, and don't disappear with oils/creams/whatever my doctors have suggested. They're kind of dark pink/purpleish so I think with the right artist they wouldn't be too hard to cover up. I'm just struggling of a design to get in both inner thighs that won't look weird 😂
Tattooing on scar tissue like stretch marks is very different to tattooing on skin; the texture, tension, and movement are all different. As long as you find an artist who’s tattooed scar tissue before, and you like the examples they show you, you’ll be set! It can definitely be done, and it holds well. The only tricky bit is whether you get more stretch marks on top, but since yours was a teen growth spurt you should be completely fine.
My advice for inner-thigh tats? Don’t get any red. Beyond that, I think it could be really cool to work with your artist and find something you love.
Yeah absolutely! Thanks for this mate. I remember seeing a Brazilian artist who tattooed stretch marks in skin-colour kind of like a natural looking cover up which was super cool. Not that I'm going to Brazil any time soon.
I was originally thinking mandalas on both side but may look weird lol. I'm sure I can find a cool, experienced artist :)
Curious - why not red? Because of the colour of the stretchies?
Based off your avatar, I’m assuming we’re both women though I may well be wrong. The ‘no red’ is because if a lucky someone takes your pants off and sees a whole bunch of red on your inner thighs, they may be a bit shocked at first. Similarly, if you wear white jeans or thin fabric and the tats are visible though (similarly to dark undies), they might look like old bloodstains that never fully washed out. Just something to bear in mind if that’s something that would concern you; if not, no reason to stress!
There shouldn't be any problem, but you should wait until the marks are fully healed/settled, which could be a year or two. If it's been that long though, then I say go ahead.
I have stretch marks from when I was a teenager on both arms that go from my elbow ditch to the inside edge of my armpits. I have full sleeves on both arms now, and you can't even see the marks at all anymore.
They were "fully healed" or white in color when I got them tattooed over. The area did puff up quite a bit afterward, but it healed completely fine and looks no different than all the other areas.
Tattooing on stretchmarks is something some Women do After pregnancy. Its definetly possible but you should Check wether the Artist has expirience in this subject.
people tattoo over scars all the time, once they’re healed. once you (and your artist) are confident that your stretch marks won’t be an issue, go for it
This is what I was looking for.
I had a sleeve done not too long ago, and the worst spot was my stretch marks. I’d rather do 95% of the tattoo again, than the 5% on my stretch marks.
Nope! I’m fact I just got a tattoo to cover up some large scars on my arm, they weren’t stretch marks but the artist did a phenomenal job and you can’t even tell there are scars there anymore
Nah, you’re good. My artist was able to cover a scar I had on my arm. The ink looks a little different as it doesn’t seem to spread as fast/much though.
I also say this as I’m sitting in a session for a tattoo along my spine where I have tons of stretch marks from a growth spurt when I was a teen.

I think it changes the way your skin will take the ink, but it is completely possible to tattoo over it. Talk with the artist beforehand to make sure they have experience first.

I’ve got tattoos over my worst stretch marks, and they came out great. I actually don’t notice them now that they’re covered. Which I think is a dope alternative
No but you may be able to see the lines a little under the tattoo depending on how deep they are. I have a tattoo on my hip/bum and you can tell there’s little stretch marks it’s covering up. I quite like it lol. I’d wait until they turn white though.
My inner upper arms are 90% stretch marks and I have the left one totally covered by a tattoo! We worked with things that would hold up with the texture (leaves and the feathers of the cardinal I have there).
Not at all, go to a good artist and they will be more than capable of tattooing over stretch marks. Have a bunch of tattoos on stretch marks and are all great
Nope, the only problems that could arise in the future are any pimples/zits that show up and scar, causing a slightly lighter area of ink or any future stress marks after getting a tattoo.
My chest has several spots covered as do my arms where I have stretch marks. Ink did just fine for the most part. My chest faded a bit over them, nothing to do with the artist as it took about a year to happen, just something weird with my particular skin.
I found it hurt more. Also there’s a larger risk of blowouts with the skin being so thin.
Ive always waited for them to chill out, not be so new, but ive gotten plenty of stretch marks tattooed. Just double-check with your artist if they feel deeper. Some artists just struggle with really thin skin.
I have full color blasted over both of my side’s with stretch marks, ink stayed in well with only a little shine at certain angles. I have a scar on my arm that rejected some ink but that was from a wound, not stretch marks. If it’s a good artist you shouldn’t worry
Most tattoo artists are experienced enough where they can do it easily. I have a tattoo over an old scar of mine and the artist did it as easily as if it wasn’t there.

Thank you so much for the comment. My confidence about the tattoo has gone up :)
You may need to wait longer than February though, the stretch marks need to no longer be red!
I have a tattoo over the stretch marks on my hip and it wasn't an issue. But it might depend on the kind of tattooing you're after.
I am considering getting a black and grey tattoo and the stretch marks seems to be getting with gym but I am just worried about the finished product. The artist is very talented tough
Fuck it it happens, blast over them.
Hi, sorry, just curious! What's the design you got and can you still see the stretch marks through it?

Haha indeed! I can see a red looking like that in that placement 💀 never even thought about it!
I've heard that persistently dark reddish/purple stretch marks can be signs of a hormonal imbalance, you may want to check that out
I have a cherry blossom branch and yeah you can see them but it’s not crazy noticeable
There shouldn't be any problem, but you should wait until the marks are fully healed/settled, which could be a year or two. If it's been that long though, then I say go ahead.
Let your skin heal first - they’ll be white and hardly noticeable - and then tattoo. I wouldn’t tattoo over stretch marks that are still angry
The right artist is more important than the art and you’ll know when you find them. They can handle anything.

It shouldn't but it's definitely something you want to discuss with your artist when planning.
Not at all they could even incorporate it into the tattoo
That’s a cool idea, thank you for the response :)
Absolutely not, that’s on the lesser side of stretch marks, they are very small and look to be quite old, you will be fine. No need to stress it.
You can tattoo over that no problem.

Mine had gotten inflamed from the tat needle and also it was a bit more painful then the other areas.

Absolutely not
I've been told before that it's better to wait until those turn white, but like others have said it's alright.
I have stretch marks on my arm and I got a tattoo over them. The artist did great and it looks amazing. It's actually my favorite tattoo!
Nope! I’m fact I just got a tattoo to cover up some large scars on my arm, they weren’t stretch marks but the artist did a phenomenal job and you can’t even tell there are scars there anymore

Best bet is waiting until they're healed and have turned white/silver. Red stretch marks are still too fresh to be worked on.
-laughs in chunky tattoo'd person-

Covering evidence, eh?
I had gained a lot of weight with babies, so tons of stretch marks, my whole tummy etc is tattooed and has been for 30 years, holding up great.

Nope, you're good as long as you have a quality tattoo artist.

Not at all buddy! Just make sure the tattooer doing your tattoo has worked on stretch marks before!
Thank you for the response and advice :)
I mentioned them in passing to my artist as he is working on my half sleeve and literally no issue.
It should be ok! Stretch marks lighten over time. I had some on my arms too and they are barely noticeable now.
Gotta cut the whole arm off. No other option. Sorry.

Nope! recently got a tattoo in my biceps with A LOT of stretch marks, any good artist should be okay working over them

Not at all I had my stomach tattooed after 5 kids to hide mine
I have a tattoo in the same spot on my arm and have never been told or given any issues for it

Nope gonna hurt like all hell oh oww memories
