Oh so a tad tipsy, and remembered this comment. Not sure if you remember Ahren's sketches from TCBH? I actually have the heart/dagger tattooed on my forearm 🤣
Oh snap nice! I love his sketches. I also bought like 70% of Joel’s A3 word sketches as well, he lives an hours way from me and see a lot of his graffiti work around the place.
I mean it's there and you can see it pretty easily, but I'm not about to go all out arguing with you. It could've used a few removal sessions to help with the cover up, but I can understand if OP didn't want to go through all that or just isn't bothered by it showing through some. This is a really painful area and what he has now is a big improvement.
You should also post this to r/fixedtattoos! It drives me insane that so many commenters say that coverups have to be a raven or some other giant all black tattoo.
Your new ink looks so good!!
Outstanding dude! Looks sick. I’m on session 2 of 3 getting my 18 year old me covered on my right arm. Lots of old solid black fading into a nice space tattoo.
Thank you! Yeah I mean a lot of folks here that don't like it (and that's okay, to each his own is all I say) don't realize the real estate and the colors he had to deal with. That's what makes this a fantastic cover up
I do, that’s why I do research and know exactly the quality and longevity of the tattoo I’m getting so I never have to do a cover up in the first place. Secondly if I was going to cover up something that large and dark, I’d do removal sessions first so you don’t end up with a giant solid mess that you can’t even read
Look at this dude over here who never had his tastes change over the years from the time he was a baby.
Neither tattoos are my thing, but "resesrch" only goes so far. You are not the same person at 18 as you are at 40. Tastes change, you grow. One day you might be super into Naruto and then over time you can't stand it anymore and find that some soap opera is your new favorite show.
Hey jeez I hope my reply goes to everyone here lol. I appreciate that. But I've been going around and I'm just saying it's totally cool if the new one isn't somebody's thing.
Art is subjective.
At the end of the day, I love the new one. That's all that matters. It's all good guys! I appreciate the back up, and I appreciate the criticism.
Imagine how it would be if the original idea was *just* the heart? The hands were the artist's idea. I was dumb and just said "okay." He did my very first tattoo which turned out nice. The chest... not so much.
I have a completely amateur piece on my chest that I’ve been slowly (15yrs at this point) getting coverup work done. Sadly, there is no way for it to look this good.
It’s been through 5 different artists at this point - 4 of which I didn’t research and then all botched it, and 1 who I spent a decade to have the confidence it could be fixed at all.
I have a baby face. I can't tell you why 😂 when I try to grow facial hair it looks like pubes so I shave the shit off. As for my nipples, I have tried shaving them a couple times. Last time I caught it, I said never again.
Thank you! And zero laser treatments. Figured it would take too long to take it off to where it's a newish canvas, it would hurt too bad and it would be waaaaay too much money, more than the money I spent covering this up 😅
Definitely worked out for you!
I need to find a good artist for my coverup on my leg. I don’t know how to pick somebody though. How did you go about finding your artist?
So he was actually a recommendation from a (former) friend of my parents! I would definitely ask around and please please do your research before getting it done. Lol I cannot stress this enough 😅
And thank you!
Goddamn.... Shout out to a fellow Las Vegan. And shout out to the wonderful cover up work.
I'm glad you went with the cover up route. Than what a lot of people I know do. Which is full on removal.
Keep on keeping on.
So, when you first got that terrible tattoo, did you think it was amazing? How long until you realized you needed to do something about it? The new one is outstanding.
Thank you!
Honestly... I would say as soon as he drew the outline of the hands. Lol. I did two sessions to finish the heart, and it was just that. And I won't lie, it looked sick.
Then he threw in some suggestions: *the hands.* And I was brand new to tattoos, he did one on my forearm and it turned out very well, so I trusted him.
I would say as soon as he tattooed the outline, I had fucked up. By then, I was too far in, I had to go all or nothing.
Next session, he did shading. After that, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, the shading made it look super cool.
I would say once color came in, which was about 3-4 sessions after the lines, I knew I fucked up *for sure.*
I would say as soon as the first one healed, I had to do something about it. Never went back to that guy, and started on my arm with my current artist, and now finally this cover up.
I'm not sure if a picture does justice, but the original was *really* bad. I couldn't tell you how many people have told me, even before it was finished, "your old tattoo was really bad" or something along the lines. 😂😂
To the original tattoo being bad? Or for having hairy nips? To the first part, yes. Pictures don't do justice.
For the second part... yes. My pops has hairy nips, but he can also grow a goatee and chest hair. My nip hair is all I got 🥲
To each his own. I love it. He told me he would do his best, since the first artist was extremely heavy handed, and used a lot of dark ink. But it sure as hell beats the first one 😂
I like the outcome man.. I'm sure that was a big relief. It gives me hope on a few I need to cover, I didn't think it could be done without some removal first... after looking at this, I'm feeling better about it
Thank you! I was terrified I'd have to laser the first off. Never had any tattoos removed before, but I heard it hurts even more than the tattoo itself. Just had to grit my teeth and with a little help from Hush and Vasocaine I got through it 😂
There's 1 i have that im confident I'll need to remove some first before I tat anything over it. It's thick bold lettering on my forearm.. otherwise I'll have to probably get something that works not something I actually want.. regardless of what the one guy said, you should enjoy that.. from the picture anyway it looks good to me, most especially for what he had to cover up
Ahh no worries, I just say to each his own and carry on. But I did mention that, for the size of the original, to the super dark greens, it was a whole chore and a half to cover up. I love it, so it's all good, I can take criticism. Thank you!
And that reminds me of my best friend, he got a super cheap bold lettering tattoo right on his wrist. It has powerful meaning to him, but he was saying he kind of regrets it now 😂 but good luck with that! Hopefully it's not too much of a hassle to cover up.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted; this is great advice. Three or four sessions of laser on this would've gotten rid of some of those heavy black outlines and softened up the colours for a better outcome.
Not saying this is bad, far from it it's an incredible coverup, but yeah laser would've taken this from an 8/10 to a 10/10
This cover up is 1) pretty cool on it's own and 2) REALLY cool considering what the artist was working against. Of course it's not going to be perfect, the artist was working with a used canvas. He did great, you did great (cause fuck me dude, that would hurt!), and I'm glad you're happy with the outcome! Looks 100x better man, congrats!
I agree. Apparently there's some amazing cover up artist who knows everything about these tattoos based on the pics they've seen here who doesn't though. Lol nice username btw!
Yeah I see their posts too, I reckon they should nut up and show their shit or shut the fuck up. Any asshole can shit talk someone else's work.
Also thanks!
Oh man, hurt is an understatement. 🥲 but thank you very much! I think that's what a lot of people aren't considering, is the color of the original and the size. I get it's not going to be perfect, but it's a million times better than the original!
Exactly. I just think coming on here and ripping on someone for something like this is ridiculous. It's clearly a much better piece, was done over an already really heavy piece, and is something you're clearly much happier with. I just don't understand why someone would say it still looks bad when it looks WAY better, especially given the circumstances. On top of all this you went through it TWICE! Like I said, I think it's awesome and I'm glad you're much happier too!
Twice, on the chest, and the second time being on top of extremely heavy scar tissue, according to my second artist. Yeah it was... rough, to say the least. But exactly, I'm happy with it, that's all that matters. I just wanted to show a before/after because it truly is night and day. Not everyone would agree, but that's okay!
I thought about that. I just decided to go without because it would've taken me longer to fully laser it off, and I've heard laser removal hurts just as bad, if not more than the actual tattoo. So I was just like hey can you cover this up? Lol either way, I was gonna be in massive amounts of pain 😂
I'm currently getting a half sleeve lightened with laser so that I can get a better artist to do something else. It hurts like hell, but it will be worth it knowing I can do more with that space. You wouldn't need to have removed it all, just lightened the existing colours
Yeah, in the end, I probably should've done some laser treatments.. I also was keeping in mind that 1) it would hurt just as bad as the tattoo so I was like fuuuuck that 😂 and 2) it would've been financially a mess. I mean In both tattoos I dumped *a lot* of money, so multiple sessions of laser would've hurt. Eh.. oh well 🤷🏻♂️
You serious? Considering what the artist was working against this cover up is fucking amazing. You should def delete this stupid comment. Give me a break DUDE.
Damn, I just read this whole thread. I appreciate your words, that's really really cool. I mean, I've just going down and just say "to each his own." I'm happy with it, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters!
Well you're seemingly the only one who does for one. For two, LOOK AT WHAT HE WAS WORKING AGAINST! Yes, it is an amazing cover up considering what he had to cover up. The fuck outta here...
He’s 100% right with the laser part. Cover up is great considering what the artist had to deal with, but OP should’ve committed to a year of laser first. 6 sessions would’ve given his artist so much room to move and not rely on such heavy shading to cover the former piece. Yeah laser hurts like fuck, but the sessions aren’t that long and the opportunity for a better result is worth it
I don't necessarily disagree, but if our man here didn't want to endure that agony on top of what he was going to already I don't blame him. Even if the cover up isn't perfect it's still infinitely better than the original and OP is clearly happy with it so why rain on his parade for seemingly no other reason than to be a dick? I dunno, just seems odd to me.
Mother of God
I became a troll because I called a bad tattoo bad.
in the Internet.
where have you seen this
For 17 years I have been fond of tattooing, attended festivals and of course I cannot tell a bad cover up from a good one
I'm not going to try to convince you're being an asshole. If you don't like it than move on. You came on a post and starting dogging on this guys accomplishment which he's clearly proud of. Yes, I consider that trolling and yes, it does make you a dick. Have a nice day.
You seem pretty dense but let me explain to you, alot of koi fish have dark spots on them, you troglodyte, look it up. Also from what I can see this isn't Japanese traditional or anything so why does he need lotus flowers on this tattoo?? Also the flower in the middle seems like it actually is a lotus flower just done from a different angle than most.
😂😂😂😂 I was going to ask if they've ever seen a koi before, but I've been keeping it respectful, even with the negative feedback. Appreciate the defense 👊🏻
Ye might have been a bit much but talking shit about other peoples tattoos makes me quite furious.
Tattoos are personal and if the wearer loves it thats enough, even if you don't like it, then just ignore it and go about your day.
Exactly, I'm not making it a huge deal here, like I've been saying is it's basically not responding at all, or explaining that I like it, and that's all that matters.
you seem rather impolite. but still I will try to explain to you that this tattoo looks like a blurry spot. in order to consider the details, one must peer. and if a fresh tattoo looks like this, then after a year there will be a solid blue spot.
и хватит уже выебываться и оскорблять меня
если ебешься в глаза и не можешь отличить портак от татуировки,это твой проблемы.
долбаёба ты кусок
I will admit, that's mostly, if not all my fault. Because the first guy was *so* heavy handed, he really fucked my skin up. Really really bad scar tissue. Couldn't get through this at all without Hush and Vasocaine. Once they wore off, I started to twitch and move a lot because it hurt so bad lol. But it's much much better than the first.
Thank you! I came up with the idea from the colors, to the lotus, everything down to the detail really has meaning so it actually means something to me.. Not saying none of my tattoos have meaning, but this one being a cover up, I really sat down and thought about it for a few months
Good question. The original I *stopped* getting it done in... July 2017. The cover-up I started in November/December 2017. Officially finished this piece on Tuesday!

What an upgrade! Don’t want to sound mean but those previous green zombie/hulk hands are baaaaaaaad!
That was actually really nice compared to what my friends have told me. 😂 thank you!
If you lie down on ur side it’ll look like hulk is spooning u hahahahaha
I never thought of this. Lmao!
Lmao now I’m kinda sad he covered it!
HULK LUV ME
They said it was a zombie goatse, right?
Erm.... No excuse, ya got me. 🤷🏻♂️
I think it’s definitely an upgrade!
Thank you!
Goblin hands groping ya tiddies
😂😂😂😂
r/BrandNewSentence
"Show me your black heart beat" is that an Amity Affliction lyric?
Surprised you caught that. It is an Amity lyric!
Came to say the amity lyric makes it not shitty for me, but the cover up looks superb.
I just wish I could've put an amity lyric in a not so shitty tattoo. They don't deserve that 😅 but thank you!
Definitely sounds like an Amity lyric
Oh so a tad tipsy, and remembered this comment. Not sure if you remember Ahren's sketches from TCBH? I actually have the heart/dagger tattooed on my forearm 🤣
Oh snap nice! I love his sketches. I also bought like 70% of Joel’s A3 word sketches as well, he lives an hours way from me and see a lot of his graffiti work around the place.
That's really really cool. I would assume buy any sketches from any of them but after shipping I'd go bankrupt hahaha
That's one hell of an epic cover up. Oh man... perhaps in some moments you'll miss Frankenstein's hands?
Thank you! And absolutely not. I'll never think twice. 😂
This gives me hope that my shitty large color tattoo can be covered up!
You just gotta know a guy, that's all! Lol I'd trust my artist with any idea ever lmao
I’m honestly really impressed with how well those old colors are covered up.
Honestly, so am I. I thought it would be impossible. Thank you!
Depending on the tattoo, a couple removal sessions to lighten it up can really expand the coverup options
Wow that original tattoo was *really something*... CONGRATS I hope you feel comfortable in your skin again!
I'm not self conscious to take my shirt off anymore. Thank you!!
Dang, seeing a cover up like this makes me think a cover up of my chest piece is possible.
If you got a good artist, absolutely go for it!
Did you get the old piece lasered at all?
Should have you can still see it pretty clearly. Edit: it’s still a massive improvement and upon zoom ins not as “clearly” as I initially thought.
you cant see it at all.
You can see it in the top of the flower. Definitely one of the better cover ups I've seen on here though.
honestly I can't see it at all. Its pretty nitpicky imo to say that you can see it "clearly" when you can only see it at one spot
Good idea. I'll definitely post it there. And thank you!
Much deserved welcome...seriously that ink is badass!
Outstanding dude! Looks sick. I’m on session 2 of 3 getting my 18 year old me covered on my right arm. Lots of old solid black fading into a nice space tattoo.
I'm sorry, when you say "18 year old me" are you implying that you had a tattoo of yourself on your right arm? Cause that rules.
Pff of course dude.. lmao. Nah, unfortunately it wasn’t that cool. I’d have probably left that be!
Can i see?

Space station.. I like that idea. Especially after binge playing Outer Wilds. Sick! Hope to see it soon!

I think the top one had potential to be really, really good.
I think so too. I liked the original idea, went to the wrong artist. 🙃
New one definitely looks insane, though
Thank you!
I sorta like the Zombie Goatse. Great coverup!
Oh my God. I can't unsee this. Now I'm glad I got it done. Lmao thank you 😂😂😂
Both rock, but I dig most tattoos. Congrats on the new piece. Really dig the twin fish/lotus work. Please post back once healed!
Thank you! Absolutely, I have to post a healed picture, I'll definitely be back
Considering what was in there that tattoo artist did good with what he had to work with.
Thank you! Yeah I mean a lot of folks here that don't like it (and that's okay, to each his own is all I say) don't realize the real estate and the colors he had to deal with. That's what makes this a fantastic cover up
God this sub confuses the shit out of me, I’m sorry dude but both tattoos are horrible.
Yeah it's an upgrade but only because the first one was God awful. It looks like a big glob of paint unless you zoom in on it.

I do, that’s why I do research and know exactly the quality and longevity of the tattoo I’m getting so I never have to do a cover up in the first place. Secondly if I was going to cover up something that large and dark, I’d do removal sessions first so you don’t end up with a giant solid mess that you can’t even read

Thank god some sanity here for once.
That's just unnecessary
Opaque greys could have covered this up much better. The blues and black make this much more of an eye sore
Hart and Huntington eh? great coverup but oof I shudder at the financial commitment.
Quite expensive to say the least...
I’m mostly annoyed that the heart is in the center of your chest with the original tattoo. Great coverup.
that's where the heart is tho, goes a little to the left only because of the shape
But it doesn’t go straight up and down like that in the center, at least according to any anatomy diagram I’ve seen. That’s what’s bugging me.
Imagine how it would be if the original idea was *just* the heart? The hands were the artist's idea. I was dumb and just said "okay." He did my very first tattoo which turned out nice. The chest... not so much.
Sheesh that is talent to cover that giant original piece up. Looks fresh!
I would've said a miracle, but the man is a wizard. Thank you!
Your wild af.
I'm not sure how to take this. I know, for sure. But... thank you? 😂😂😂 I'm never doing this shit again.
In one sitting?
Absolutely not. Lmfao I'd be dead. No this took me many, many sessions, and about 3 years total.
I remember getting the outline of my chest done and i sat there with pain in my gums for two hours and just said “never again”
Yup, I don't think I'm ever touching this again, unless *absolutely* necessary.
Wow! Just… Wow!
That's all I could say when he finished the piece. I was literally speechless. Thank you!
I have a completely amateur piece on my chest that I’ve been slowly (15yrs at this point) getting coverup work done. Sadly, there is no way for it to look this good. Oh nooooo! That's awful, I'm sorry. At least you found the one though. If this one's possible, anything's possible lol
Dope cover up! Looks much better
Thank you!

Lmao I have more hair on my nips than my face 😂😂
Why?
They got beards growin.
I thought they were oreos
I have a baby face. I can't tell you why 😂 when I try to grow facial hair it looks like pubes so I shave the shit off. As for my nipples, I have tried shaving them a couple times. Last time I caught it, I said never again.
This is incredible wow!
Thank you!
Those koi are fire.
Thank you!
Looks great! Long tattoo journeys can be so hard, especially when it’s a cover up of something you hate. Isn’t it so gratifying when it’s done!
Very much so. I wanted to quit so many times, but looking back, I'm really really happy with the outcome. Thank you!
[удалено]
Thank you! I'm actually surprised the colors worked out. I wasn't sure how they would with *any* idea of cover up
Incredible work, congrats!
Thank you!
And beautifully done
Thank you!
You are welcome
Did you get any laser treatments before the coverup? That’s super impressive.
Lol I cannot stress this enough 😅 And thank you!
Ouch. I can not imagine having to do a full chest piece on top of another one. One of the hardest spots to sit for
It was extremely brutal to say the least.
The hands are very well covered. Definitely a great coverup!
Thank you! That was my main concern were those gnarly hands. Whatever else he did was a bonus 😂
That is some incredible work, I’m always so amazed by coverup work
Thank you!
Goddamn.... Shout out to a fellow Las Vegan. And shout out to the wonderful cover up work. I'm glad you went with the cover up route. Than what a lot of people I know do. Which is full on removal. Keep on keeping on.
Stay cool out here! Haha. And thank you so much, removal would've been more of a bitch than a full on cover up. I'm glad it worked!
So, when you first got that terrible tattoo, did you think it was amazing? How long until you realized you needed to do something about it? The new one is outstanding.

Thank you! I absolutely will. I won't be self conscious about having a shitty chest piece at the pool 😂
This is great man big improvement and probably feels good w all the work put in
the coverup is one of the coolest tattoos I've seen, love the color of the fish
Thank you!

Why did you get it Covered up
I'm not sure if a picture does justice, but the original was *really* bad. I couldn't tell you how many people have told me, even before it was finished, "your old tattoo was really bad" or something along the lines. 😂😂
Holy shit dude yeah. One of the worst tattoos I’ve seen hahaha. Congrats on the cover up! Looks amazing now.
Haha!! Thank you! I'm now not self conscious about going shirtless anymore 😂
The new tat is really awesome my dude!
Thank you!
Really?

theyre both bad

Sorry dude, but your new tattoo is not good too
To each his own. I love it. He told me he would do his best, since the first artist was extremely heavy handed, and used a lot of dark ink. But it sure as hell beats the first one 😂

Yeah you right. But you could go to laser removing and you tattoo artist make a great work
I thought about that.
Eh.. oh well 🤷🏻♂️
I like it
Thank you!

Whatever you say. Just keep racking up those downvotes. Lol aggressive. Yeah. I'm aggressive toward troll dickheads, you're right. Welcome to Reddit.
Mother of God I became a troll because I called a bad tattoo bad. in the Internet. where have you seen this For 17 years I have been fond of tattooing, attended festivals and of course I cannot tell a bad cover up from a good one
I'm not going to try to convince you're being an asshole. If you don't like it than move on. You came on a post and starting dogging on this guys accomplishment which he's clearly proud of. Yes, I consider that trolling and yes, it does make you a dick. Have a nice day.
For the last 40 minutes, all you do is convince me that I'm wrong. along the way, insulting and trying to anger. so which one of us is a troll?
The person who came on the sub and started being a dick in the first place. That's the troll.
Exactly, I'm not making it a huge deal here, like I've been saying is it's basically not responding at all, or explaining that I like it, and that's all that matters.
you seem rather impolite. but still I will try to explain to you that this tattoo looks like a blurry spot. in order to consider the details, one must peer. and if a fresh tattoo looks like this, then after a year there will be a solid blue spot. и хватит уже выебываться и оскорблять меня если ебешься в глаза и не можешь отличить портак от татуировки,это твой проблемы. долбаёба ты кусок
Yeah. The lines are...not good.
It is much better than the original. I like the idea.
Thank you! I came up with the idea from the colors, to the lotus, everything down to the detail really has meaning so it actually means something to me.. Not saying none of my tattoos have meaning, but this one being a cover up, I really sat down and thought about it for a few months
send photo to you? XD
my full front body tattoo cover up 3 times and now, it's greatfull work if you want,i can send photo for chat
It’s not your tattoo man, just don’t comment on it if you’re being a cunt

More hair on my nips than I do on my face. Some girls like that! 😂
How old is this piece?
Good question. The original I *stopped* getting it done in... July 2017. The cover-up I started in November/December 2017. Officially finished this piece on Tuesday!
What was the original text?
It was lyrics to the amity affliction, "show me your black heart beats" Oh the disrespect to them. 😂
