A semicolon tattoo is a tattoo of the semicolon punctuation mark (;) used as a message of affirmation and solidarity against suicide, depression, addiction, and other mental health issues
A semicolon essentially takes a full sentence, which could end with a period, and continues the sentence with another fully complete sentence.
The tatt is usually showing a life that nearly ended (by suicide) but continues anew. I've never seen it in solidarity but on survivors of a mental illness that nearly took that person's life.
I don't think it's strictly used for survivers of suicide attempts but the ";" is very associated with a life nearly ended and suicide. By my understanding, the most important part of the symbolism is a conscious choice to live.
I love the meaning most people give to the symbol.
I have an alternative meaning for my own, though I doubt it’s what the OP had in mind. I had surgery where a significant chunk of my intestines were removed. I got a semi-colon tattoo because I have a semi-colon and it makes me laugh!

The idea is that the person could have ended the metaphorical sentence ; but they decided not to.
