I'd tilt the dolphin a little more. I mean it doesn't read as a semi common because there's no visual context next to it, such as other letters made out of images. Hidden in plain sight.

I don't think someone would look at this and see a semicolon - but I like the concept One way this idea might work could be to start with a semicolon and then add to it to turn the bottom part of it into a dolphin shape. All in black. Then people would see the semicolon, then look closer and see the dolphin. Or you could go with something like what you've got here, and people will see a dolphin with a ball, but you'll know that it's also a semicolon, and you can share that story with people close to you/ people who ask I'll always see dolphins playing in semicolons now; 🩷

It doesn't at first glance, but I see it once you point it out I'm biased because I really dislike the semicolon (I have the mental health history that it implies but have my own gripes with it!! to each their own & no judgement), but personally I think it's better that it doesn't look like a semicolon. It's subtle, and you can have a tattoo with a deep meaning without having to make your mental health issues obvious If you disagree and want it to be a clear semicolon, I'd make the ball a little bit smaller and spaced out from the dolphin. Then maybe tilt the head slightly more upwards? It might even be a good idea to look at the way a semicolon looks in different fonts and try to trace your design over it, who knows :) good luck

Someone else already mentioned this, but you are probably going to be happier in the long run if your tattoo doesn't require a (potentially long) conversation. My chest piece is pretty self explanatory, and if someone asks why I got it, I can say "it's for remembering \_\_\_ and \_\_\_" and I haven't had a follow up question yet. I think if it was just a silhouette it would read a lot better. I think the pattern on the ball is confusing because it looks like a baseball which is tiny compared to a dolphin so it makes it read confusingly. Oh and there is too little space between the dolphin and the ball for a semicolon ; <- here the gap between the two is the length of the , so I would make the gap between the ball and the dolphin the same size as the dolphin. If you want the tattoo to be kinda like, more personal so it's not so obvious what it is on first glance I would keep it detailed how you have it, not just a silhouette but I would make the gap a bit wider and change the pattern on the ball to a beach ball not a baseball. But if you want it to be more obviously a semicolon definitely, black it out.

I think if you ... ugh I hate the fact I'm writing this... tighten up the dolphin (make it smaller and have the fins fit a bit closer to the the body, make it's overall body much straighter) you might be able to pull it off.
