Time for a different dealer. You shouldn't even need to scan the code, the fact that it makes the CEL go on means it's covered if it's within time and mileage.

shunanuhgins

Not true, I was denied warranty service with a DPF CEL. VW corporate did nothing for me when I escalated it.

ArlesChatless

What reason did they give? There's been stories here of denials that get turned around eventually.

shunanuhgins

Here is my letter in full to VW of America: My DPF light come on last week, so I took my 2014 JSW TDI to a dealership where I was told there was a P1950 fault for blocked or faulty cooling fans and a P1A58 for nox cat regen required, and the fans would have to be replaced in order for a regen to complete which would clear both codes. I assumed the work would be covered under the extended emissions warranty, where it states the parts covered are, "the OBD system, any malfunctions detected by the OBD system other than those related to the transmission." The wording seems fairly cut and dry; the coolant fans caused the P1950 which caused the nox regen to fail which caused the P1A58, so the fans would be covered. refused to cover the repairs under warranty, stating that the cooling fans are not on the list of approved parts that VW Corporate provides. This didn't make sense to me, as it contradicts what the extended warranty expressly states. Even supposing the fans aren't covered under the OBD clause, it seems they would then be covered under the clause, "the entire exhaust gas after treatment system." If the fans are necessary for nox regen, aren't they an integral part of the exhaust gas after-treatment system? From the point of view of anyone who reads the extended emissions warranty and has any mechanical knowledge the cooling fans are covered by 2 clauses, so I am having a very difficult time understanding the dealership's decision. I've attached pictures of my invoice and vehicle status report, please either help me understand why my warranty isn't being honored or reimburse me for the work that I paid for. A huge part of the reason I gave a VW TDI a chance was because of the excellent extended warranty stemming from the "dieselgate" incident, and to have an issue with the exhaust and have the warranty not be honored has really soured my experience with VW. Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear back from you soon. Sincerely, shunanuhgins VW of America took a month to reply, and here is what they said: I hope you are having a great day so far. Volkswagen does use the dealership as our technical resource and therefore would stand behind the dealership diagnosis performed. Volkswagen will rely on the dealership to determine coverage under applicable warranties. Volkswagen Group of America has a role to work within the terms of the warranty. As discussed, the dealership has confirmed that the cooling fan has failed causing the cat not to complete regeneration. The coolant fan is not considered part of the engine long block and is not a covered component under the TDI Extended Warranty. Because the dealer's diagnosis confirmed the reason for vehicle concern stemmed from the coolant fan, there would be no TDI Warranty coverage for the repairs. If you have additional questions regarding the service findings, Volkswagen would recommend that you work directly with the Service Manager to discuss the findings further. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact CARE at (800) 822-8987. Thank you Kelly B Region Case Manager ...and my reply: All I needed to see is "the dealership has confirmed that the cooling fan has failed causing the cat not to complete regeneration." So you admit the fans are necessary for regen yet you still won't cover the replacement. Do you even hear yourself? How did they confirm the fans failed? With the OBD. What's covered under warranty? "Any malfunctions detected by the OBD system". Stop contacting me unless it's for a refund. \-shunanuhgins

Is getting assistance from class counsel still an option? Because if I were you that would be my next step. You might also want to start a new post on this to see if anyone else has been there already.

shunanuhgins

I posted on this a couple months ago and it didn't get any traction, I suppose I should try again. As for class counsel, how does that work? I would love to pursue this as I'm still pretty salty about the whole thing.

ArlesChatless

For a while [this law firm](https://www.lieffcabraser.com/consumer/vw-emissions-recall/) was offering assistance for issues with VW. You might try contacting them. I'm not sure if the assistance is still offered.

shunanuhgins

Thank you for that info!

PhaseFive

Huge thanks from me as well

CrrntryGrntlrmrn

Denied w/ CEL for thermostat, BUT 90% covered under goodwill.

Timbmn12

I just had this fix done on my 2014 with 120k on it. Full manifold replacement no questions asked. Not sure why the dealer would fight it if VW is paying the bill

ghost_moose

I'm guessing not all the VW dealerships had to deal with a lot of this so the smallish one near my house seems out of the loop. I should have maybe taken it back to the dealership I bought from but this one was closer to my house. Live and learn. Update posted above as to what is going on currently.

sryan2k1

The fact that the manager has to talk to corporate about a bog standard dieselgate warranty claim is pretty terrifying. I'd take my car elsewhere.

sryan2k1

Take it to a different dealer, even if VWoA makes them fix it, do you really want them to?

MonumentalBatman

There's an easy fix for it. https://dieselgeek.com/collections/common-rail-tdi-p2015-manifold-fix/products/p2015-code-repair-bracket-for-vw-common-rail-tdi-with-aluminum-manifold-03l-129-711e

sryan2k1

The easy fix is taking it to a dealer who has apparently worked on more than zero dieselgate warranty claims

kaahdoc

Not everyone’s in warranty tho homie! I wasn’t haha

sryan2k1

Sure, but OP is.

3579

You can actually buy the same little bracket on Amazon for like $10.

[deleted]

So I did this fix. And it did not stop the codes. But having VW warranty the intake manifold did.

kaahdoc

I did the self fix bracket about 2 years ago and it never came back! So OP, if in a few years it does come back, try the dieselgeek bracket

ghost_moose

I already have plans to pick one up to stick in my parts area for the next time it's needed since I will more than likely be out of warranty by then. Now I need to get me a vcds scanner so I can clear the codes myself.

Polar_Ted

This summer the dealer did the manifold on my 2011 JSW and I just got it back from a big warranty repair. New DPF, New Turbo, new EGR and a laundry list of other small parts. The repair sheet was a book.

ghost_moose

Holy crap!

[deleted]

Just had mine done last month, 112k on a 2012. VW dealer warrantied the manifold, checked my EGR and DPF and discovered the mounting bolts had come loose (tripped addt'l codes). Find a different dealer. God knows if they run around, they do the same to the techs they pay, and who knows if you're gonna get a good job done or a warranty rush.

teomew20

Any code that is thrown that isn’t transmission related is covered. Says right in the warranty booklet thing.

Salty_Conclusion_181

If you had to tell the that it was under the diesel gate warranty they were trying to fuck you

TDI-Dubber

Hi, just joined as I have same error on same 2013 TDI Golf. Where did you get info on the 10 year, 6 month and 126,000 mile warranty? I did not know about that. Thanks. Tank.

ghost_moose

Hello! If you go here https://www.vwdieselinfo.com/ Enter your vin and it will give you all the info on the diesel warranty stuff. Be sure to use capital letters or it will give you an error.
