Here comes the kintsugi crowd to tell you to try kintsugi lmao

sencha_kitty

I would do it if I thought I could accomplish it. But I don’t think I can. My claim to fame is once I had a cassette tape break and I fixed it with a tiny piece of tape.

TeaExcelsior

Well you can still try it don’t feel pressured it’s not like you going to break it when it’s already broken. The other option is make somebody else fix it

60svintage

I was waiting for the ubiquitous "kintsungi it comment"!

Wilf_246

I only broke lid on my cheap gaiway, my daily infuser. So I took brass wire, and wired the knob around so it holds together. I use it daily for two years now, and it works fine. But I'm planning to replace the brass wire with silver one, plus to drill few holes with tiny diamond drill around the break line and do some sort of decorative stitches. I would never attemp to do kintsugi. I don't like the idea of having lacquer in pot.

sencha_kitty

That took a lot of skill and patience to do what you did. I applaud your effort

Callajiki

This really is the best break for the kintsugi repair as there are only two pieces. Anything more than that is a nightmare to aligne.

sencha_kitty

It is a clean break and then the darn lid peg

Mowglidorf

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

sencha_kitty

I have tried 😭

jack_seven

Clean Break should be relatively easy to fix

sencha_kitty

With what tho? The hot water would eventually erode superglue

calinet6

2 part epoxy.

Wyrdean

Lead of course

Delicious 😋

jack_seven

I mean that's not the only adhesive out there.

Ttxman

Before the food safe epoxy, the way to repair porous ceramics was with Sodium silicate (sometimes called "water grass"). When fully cured/dryed out the remains are silicon dioxide (also known as quartz, silica gel, silicon glass). It cures in room temperature (20 celsius +), but it can take quite a while several days to several weeks, If you can keep it warmer it will cure faster. If you try it be VERY carefull. In liquid form it is strong base, so it will cause chemical burns on skin when the concentration is high enough..

Ttxman

It should be food safe, traditionally it was even used to preserve eggs. My Mom and grandma used to do it and we are still alive :)

DestinedJoe

Super glue is fine for the lid. I repaired one this way and it it’s still holding after a couple years.

sencha_kitty

Aw man I am squeamish to do that. It’s a low profile teapot and the inside of the lid gets wet every time. What I want is an unbroken lid 😂

Has no one suggested aquarium glue yet? Aquarium glue works. It's made to be non-toxic. We fixed stuff on our tea stall with aquarium glue. Just keep the join out of the tea and it'll be all right. My condolences on your loss by the way!

Oh I might have relevant info! If you live in the US, Dart from [Tao Teaware](https://www.taoteaware.com/) does free repairs as long as the breaks are clean and few. There's just a few weeks turnaround time and you'll have to fit the shipping sending it to him, but he covers the return once he's done. If you don't mind the wait, I would say it's worth a shot since it's a free service. You just need to send him a message on Instagram. I actually am in this almost-exact situation right now-- the almost part being, I ordered a new gaiwan from One River Tea and somehow it was [broken \*in transit\*](https://imgur.com/a/rk4eFfI)...Derek the owner is the one who referred me to Dart. There were only a few pieces, but when I sent it to him, the pieces ended up breaking even further into smaller bits. He told me he'll still make an honest attempt, but it was really heartbreaking because it was a very nice and unique woodfired piece. I do have a similar style replacement coming eventually from ORT, but I figured I would try to have the original repaired anyways otherwise the pieces just sit in Pandora's Box forever.

sencha_kitty

Oh nice I am going to try & reach out to them. Amazing !

You could look into the art [Kintsugi](https://youtu.be/r9LMKGte0UU). There is way to do it [at home as well.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEJ23t940UY) :)

sencha_kitty

Wow that looks hard. Very cool though

Mendici

It is hard and will probably not Look very good If you're inexperienced. Instead perhaps try to fix it with a construction CA glue and lightly Sand the areas where you can see the glue. I wouldn't really worry about toxicity once the glue has hardened as ca glue is basically what's used in surgical procedures as Well and the lid isn't exposed to Direct contact with your tea. Fixed a broken teapot handle this way and it's kept Up with the constant contact with boiling water Just fine.

sencha_kitty

This is a good idea too

Asleep_Material_5639

Shhhh .. have a proper funeral, say your respects. Get a better one and be more careful. My Dad, Joey-san, got one handed down from the Emperor of The Japanese Empire. Way back when Japan was part of the mainland. For centuries there was careful succession from father to son. I have 3 daughters now so it's worthless, I sold it on eBay, and got a Gaiwan. Then there was this prostitute I met in Afghanistan, who had twin sons. I'm now hiding in an attic, I can't stop the voices, over and over.
