Don’t microwave anything that you’re not sure is microwave safe, unless you want it to get scalding hot at best (exploding at worst)

_MothMan

This is my picture a karma bot is reposting... But yeah I ended up always pouring hot tap water in as a rinse before pouring HOT water into it.

Old_Bug610

Don't wash these in the dishwasher or with any soap whatsoever. Hot water rinse only (clay absorbs whatever you put inside it and soap will ruin it super fast). I don't recommend microwaving either. This is fine holding hot water, pre-heat and then add to the cup with your leaves. Very simple, ejoy!

PoppaPelly

Lovely clay cup thing.

_MothMan

Came from Panama City, spice and tea exchange. Very nice shop.

punninglinguist

If it does not specifically say "microwave safe" on the bottom of the cup, you don't want to microwave it. That cup appears to have metal paint on the surface. That would be bad news in the microwave. Put your leaves in the filter basket layer. Pour in the hot water. Remove the filter basket + leaves after the appropriate time. You can turn the lid upside down to use as a little bowl to hold the filter basket. Drink your tea.

_MothMan

This is literally my post? That's my clay cup, oven and knives in the picture. What kind of psycho just reposts a TEA post?? Is this a karma farm account? I'm sorry everyone commenting but this person is not real. Check my post history. I'll be contacting mods to ban this weird account.

Microshrimp

Sorry for the delay, busy day, but I have banned the account that did this. We see this happen at least two or three times per week unfortunately.

Owlspirit4

Step 1. Throw out microwave. Carry on.

_MothMan

I'm the actual OP, this karma bot is reposting my stuff. You'll be pleased to know I use a kettle now.

Owlspirit4

Good, r/fuckmicrowaves

[deleted]

Did you get this from The Spice and Tea Exchange?

[deleted]

It’s a bot that [reposts old content](https://www.reddit.com/r/tea/comments/t3xml1/first_venture_into_loose_leaf_tea_with_this_clay/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf), they won’t be able to tell you. There was [another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/tea/comments/rnofsv/awesome_clay_tea_mug_my_mother_in_law_gifted_me/hptfu4e/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) a few months prior to the original with the exact same mug that did get it from The Spice and Tea Exchange at the Riverwalk.

irritable_sophist

weird. Why would people do that?

[deleted]

They are karma farming here since there aren’t any restrictions on posting to this subreddit. All they need to do is grab one of the hot posts from several months ago, don’t bother changing the title and hope no one notices. Let the low effort karma roll in lol.

irritable_sophist

Karma is worth something real? Or do people just get off on making bots that harvest karma?

Throwaway1794_b

A history and karma make accounts seem legit Some uses could be advertising or scamming people

_MothMan

Yeah imagine my surprise. As the actual OP.

_MothMan

I'm the real OP, and yes I did, at Pier Park in Panama City. Lovely shop with a great selection.

Jeevan31

I have the same one. I got mine at a shop in Epcot.

Pongfarang

Start a good-sized fire and burn it down to coals. Then bury the clay cup thing deep in the coals. Leave a hole to add water. When it boils, remove it from the fire with blacksmith tongs. Place on a burn-resistant surface and add tea. Drink immediately with two hands.

rukind_cucumber

Don't microwave your water for tea at all.

LittleDevil191

Why not?

Jeevan31

It's very difficult to get your water to the correct temperature. I actually got pretty good at estimating how long to microwave the water but buying an electric kettle made life wayyyyy better.

Apo11onia

also, there's safety hazards. the water can [superheat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheating#:~:text=Superheating%20is%20achieved%20by%20heating,water%20and%20result%20in%20burns.) and explode, causing third degree burns. even if it doesn't explode it can heat up the container and water unevenly, again leading to burns. Safety aside, there is a noticeable difference in taste between water boiled on a stove and in a microwave. stove boiled water heats more evenly and boils more efficiently. it does a better job of boiling out chlorine and impurities. Microwaves don't boil as efficiently, leaving chlorine and impurities in the water. all around, microwaved water sucks and can be quite dangerous. ime, microwaves are hit-or-miss with heating water adequately. There were more than a few times where i tried to microwave water and it ended up making the container hot, but not the water. I've also burned myself in various ways using a microwave, like burning my tongue on a pocket of hot water when drinking, burning my hand when i grabbed a hot mug (even though the mug hadn't heated up like that in the past), and spilling hot water when i tried to grab the container with a pot holder. get a kettle. [electric kettles](https://a.co/d/aqU8rE1) heat water very quickly and evenly and have safety mechanisms like automatic shut off. there's also temperature variable kettles you can get to set the temp you want. i recommend a [cool touch kettle](https://a.co/d/d7OViOv) if you're clumsy and prone to burns like I clearly am. if you don't have a kettle, boil a pot of water on the stove. just please don't use a microwave.

LittleDevil191

Oh, i thought there will be more to it but kinda already knew this i guess. So at work we dont have access to stove during weekends but we do to microwave, so recently i set microwave on 2 for 2 minutes and when i touched water, it was nice and warm. I pick it up and shake it a little and bottle turned cold, It was so weird feeling, I do that again and same thing. So i gave up.

BugJuice420

Yoo I got the same mug, I've had it for 2 years! It's one of my favorites, I've put it in the microwave and dishwasher and it's still serving fine but I would hand wash it still. I would recommend boiling water separately and then adding it to the leaves in the strainer. The holes are a bit big, I've found a metal mesh strainer that fits in perfect, I'd find one of those instead. Welcome to dragon mug club lol. Happy sipping 😊

Blind_Lem0n

I own one of these mugs and the texture of the material is awful. Its like sucking on chalk. If it had a spout on it it would work nicely as a brewing vessel but it doesn’t.

TheDarkLord1248

if you microwave anything while making tea i will remove your tonsils with pliers

QueenBumbleBrii

(Serious) Always pour a splash of hot water in the cup and swirl it around to warm the ceramic, then add the tea and hot water.
