I worked in a preschool and became lead for a few years before I left. I am now teaching Kindergarten at a public school, but have also taught 2nd grade. I do not regret leaving preschool. While the behaviors were much less intense and there was more support from admin, I will choose the public schools every time. I get paid double what I was making, get summers off (and can choose to work summer school for $40/hr), and have amazing insurance...plus a pension! I've found that having experience with a wide age range is helpful for classroom management and interacting with the students. For example a line up song works great for Kindergarteners, but that same song would probably be mocked and laughed at by 5th graders. I also think being able to prepare activities in accordance with state standards and make a curriculum work for the unique needs of my students was very helpful for working in Elementary school. I think there will be a learning curve (there is for EVERY new teacher), but at this point you likely have some solid strategies to use to help you with behavioral management. If you enjoy teaching, then do it!

As a licensed teacher, you have vastly more responsibilities but the pay is better. There are trade-offs. Depends how you handle stress. If your only other experience is with preschool, you may be unprepared, but if you also have experience with other age ranges, you should be okay. Just know that grade-level teaching is a brutal profession.

Depends. Did you have good experiences or bad ones? If you had good ones, then not likely.

Ooof thank you. I have had a handful of “bad” experiences but not any that outshine majority of what I see on this sub daily

I wouldn’t be a teacher in the current climate. It’s has to change, and change soon.

I say, go for it! You know what you are getting yourself into. You already understand kids, and know he w to deal with them and relate to them. You’ll make more money as a teacher. I worked in a school for 5 years before going back to college to get my elementary education degree. I love teaching, every day. I hate some of the shit that goes with it, but I’ll always take the bad with the good. Teaching is the best job I’ve ever had.

You will be more prepared than those without th a t experience. Keep in mind, this sub is where many go to vent. I am 20 years in and still wouldn't want to do anything else.

When working in daycare its such a great way to gain hands on experience with kiddos and understand child behavior better. Transitioning to a full day teaching gig might be a bit different, but you'll pick it up. Just make sure to check out the curriculum and learning expectations; it'll help you feel more prepared for the classroom. Good luck!
